Saw it last weekend and feel pretty much the same way. Some of the best parts of the book were the interactions in Black family house at Grimauld and that was almost all absent. Despite how different the Umbridge portrayal in the film was from how she was in the book, I think it worked well. Certainly you hated her just as much.

And the Banned Played On. . . Alas, poor Brando, I knew him well.

QUOTE(Queen Prawn @ Jul 14, 2007 -> 10:35 AM) Also, I need to do some back patting of my own. We bought a C4180 and I ran into problems with loading of the software (isn't it always a software issue lol). I attacked it Friday night and made the printer and computer happy and now I have a scanner/copier/photoprinter/printer that works like a charm heehee. NPR noted that yesterday was "Free Your Inner Geek" Day, so your timing was spot on. QUOTE(sox4lifeinPA @ Jul 14, 2007 -> 10:56 AM) what does one have to do to get arrested 10 or 11 times and not end up in jail for a long time?? Live in Mayberry?

QUOTE(BigEdWalsh @ Jul 14, 2007 -> 12:36 AM) Please allow me to introduce myself, I'm a man of wealth and taste. A taste of honey tasting much sweeter than wine Spill the wine, take that girl Take your car, yes we will, we'll take your car and drive it. I've been waiting...I've been waiting for this moment all my life...but it's not quite right Something is wrong here! I don't belong here! My daddy he disowned me cause I wear my sister's clothes, he caught me in the bathroom with a pair of pantyhose. I see you shiver with antici... pation! Stop right there! I gotta know right now before we go any further. Do you love me? Will you love me forever? I'm in love but I sure picked a bad time to be in love. Even the bad times are good, as soon as i get to you, baby. Sixteen I fell in love with a girl as sweet as can be. Only took a couple of days till she was rid of me. Well, she used to run around with every man in town. Oooh Jackie, what fun you have had. Freaked out for another day. No fun, my babe, no fun. This is no social crisis. Just another tricky day for you, Fella. Mister America, try to hide the emptiness that's you inside. Forget about the brotherly and otherly love. Motherly Love is just the thing for you. The things that I used to do....Lord, I won't do no more. You know the sky, the sky's been cryin - Can't you see the tears roll down my nose? Oh, set me up with the spirit in the sky, that's where I'm gonna go when I die. You've blown it all sky high. And you can fly high as a kite if you want to. I want to get away, I wanna fly away. Straighten up and fly right. Cool down, papa, don't you blow your top. It's a family affair, it's a family affair. When you see me again I hope that you have been the kind of person that you really are now. But I always thought that I'd see you again. I thought I could feel (feel, feel, feel) music touching my soul, something warm, sudden cold. But it was just my imagination running away with me. Have I got a long way... to run. Running away to get away. Ha! Ha! Ha! Ha! You're wearing out your shoes. Time marches on I start to trip I start to fall. And now I'm running from something, running from something on my tail. I'm as 'bout as helpless as a leaf in a gale; and it looks like I've got a tiger by the tail. A dinosaur Victrola listening to Buck Owens. Doo doo doo, Lookin' out my back door. I'm a back door man. The men don't know, but the little girls understand. Li'l Sister, don'cha do what your Big Sister done. The only one who could ever reach me, was the son of a preacher man. We sat and talked about things on our mind and now this man he is a friend of mine. What your friends all say is fine but it can't compete with this pillow talk of mine. You talk a lot, but you're not saying anything. Oh well I'm sittin' here la-la waitin' for my ya-ya, uh-huh If I don't get some shelter Lord, I'm gonna fade away. Really want to see you Lord, but it takes so long, my Lord. He's so fine – Do-lang-do-lang-do-lang! Wish he were mine – Do-lang-do-lang-do-lang. Come on-a my house, my house-a come on. Now everything is easy 'cause of you. It seems so easy - ho ho so doggone easy - mm mm, it seems so easy. As simple as do-re-mi, ABC, 1 2 3, baby you and me. Baby, there's nothin' hard about love. Basically, it's as easy as pie. Easy not to judge you, Easy to betray, Easy to adore you though you want to run away. Do you only care about the bleeding crowd? How about a needing friend? I know many fine feathered friends. But their friendliness depends on how you do.

QUOTE(SoxFan101 @ Jul 14, 2007 -> 04:27 AM) This movie cut out so much of the book it was borderline ridiculous. Obviously you cant have everything from the book put into the movie but this one had so little and than the parts it didnt skip completely werent near complete at all. Overall I enjoyed the movie because Im a Harry Potter fan but they need a different director for the next. It was funny that the longest book in the series ended up as the shortest film in the set so far. In all likelihood they will be just as merciless in cutting down Halfblood Prince. A lot of fans of the first books have not been as happy with the last two - not as fun, darker, and heavy on the history and intrigue of the wizarding world. I thought they were both fantastic and i think Jo's writing has matured really nicely, but I may be in the minority.

QUOTE(kyyle23 @ Jul 13, 2007 -> 03:56 PM) suspects of murder, not suspects of pure awesomeness Murderer or purveyor of Awsome Ninjaness. . . I guess one's opinion depends on whether or not he is on the receiving end of ninjafication.

QUOTE(kyyle23 @ Jul 13, 2007 -> 12:14 PM) They say truckdrivers are the hardest to find and trace as murder suspects because of the nature of thier jobs Hmmm, I'd have gone with ninjas.

Former Surgeon General Complains of Censure, Manipulation

QUOTE(Soxy @ Jul 12, 2007 -> 11:01 PM) I am not going to lie, we aren't even to hypothesis stage yet in my area. We're still wandering around in the pseudoscientific wilderness with our thumbs up our asses. How about we call where the global warming stuff is "paradigmatic selection phase." Would a little Kuhn tickle your fancy here? (On a related note: how do you feel speech production and perception are related? ) You scientists and yer' fancy wurds. I like most of Kuhn's take on the history of science, and his notion of scientific advance being the result of revolutionary paridigm shifts rather than gradualism had enough of an Eldridge and Gould saltatory bent to it that, yes indeed, he tickles my fancy. Life in the wilderness of pre-science is not a bad thing though. Nobody knows enough yet to tell you how wrong your ideas are. Far as perception and speech production. . .er, uhm. . . I got nuthin', you're on your own. -
QUOTE(Gregory Pratt @ Jul 12, 2007 -> 08:33 PM) Success in the War on Terror will be a very hard thing to measure. Indeed, the resolution of our measurement instruments is not fine enough for such micrometrics.

QUOTE(Soxy @ Jul 12, 2007 -> 09:06 PM) But when you have empirical evidence that is all pointing in the same direction, well, that tells me that a theory is doing a damn fine job of predicting what it should. Must be a mountain of damn good evidence if you rushed clean past hypothesis and elevated straight to theory status. Somebody's going to make you retake those comps if you keep throwing around the T-word so freely. -
From the book I thought Tonks' hair was supposed to be short and spikey.

Bush tells Miers screw a congressional order and keep quiet!!

QUOTE(kapkomet @ Jul 12, 2007 -> 08:27 AM) All indications are that she had NOTHING to do with any of this crap. . . That is a wholly inaccurate statement, Kap. In March the White House disclosed that Miers proposed firing all 93 USAs after the the 2004 election and it was Kyle Sampson who pointed out to her the practical and political reasons that couldn't be done. Instead, Sampson sent Miers a chart in 2005 laying out a formula for deciding which USAs should get fired. The communications between Sampson and Miers indicate close coorcination between White House officials and DOJ in deciding who got canned, how, and why. How exactly do you come to the conclusion that Miers "had NOTHING to do with any of this crap"? -
This guy from the Homeland Security Committee pretty much sums up my sentiments. I'm not sure how much longer the dude will have his job, but his frankness is commendable.

QUOTE(NorthSideSox72 @ Jul 11, 2007 -> 01:25 PM) So here is the question, which I would like to hear opinions on. When is it appropriate for Presidents to censor or edit statements from the nation's leading representatives of scientific communities, such as medicine and space exploration? Never. If scientists feel strongly the need to communicate an opinion of some sort to the general public, the appropriate agency spokespersons should be allowed to do so unfettered and uncensored. Opinions will always be given in terms of some percent confidence which means there will be ample room for dissenters in and out of the scientific community to engage in open and informed debate. It is antithetical for the scientific community to have to skirt relevant societal issues and hide 'truth' (or at least their current approximation of it based on valid research) when the entire point of science is the pursuit of those truths (or reasonable working approximations thereof). -
QUOTE(vandy125 @ Jul 10, 2007 -> 11:28 PM) That is not really saying anything meaningful. It is just talking in circles. There you go. And some folks say UU isn't really a religion.
-
QUOTE(vandy125 @ Jul 10, 2007 -> 10:32 PM) One thing that people forget is that EVERY religion has its own claims to exclusivity. Almost every religion, perhaps, but not all of them. The central tenet of Unitarian Universalism is the support of each individual's search for truth and meaning in concepts of deity and that ranges from a Christian deity to polytheism to atheism and everything in between. It's nice that there s a group out there that believes that nobody's Imaginary Best Buddy In the Sky is any better than anybody else's.

QUOTE(Jenksismyb**** @ Jul 10, 2007 -> 07:40 PM) *sigh Don't do enough, do too much, don't do enough, do too much. You people are hard to please. Do too much?? Chertoff basically just said we should all be vigilant because DHS has no clue how to predict or stop anything that might happen here. Yeah, doing too much is exactly how I'd qualify it.

QUOTE(NorthSideSox72 @ Jul 10, 2007 -> 05:19 PM) Well I'll be damned. I guess I misinterpereted my physics teachers saying centrifugal force didn't exist. Yes, in the physics of circular motion, centrifugal force is a myth. But the word itself is a real world. I am a snobbish erudite prat for feeling the need to point out the distinction I know, so hopefully you weren't hurted by it. QUOTE(BigSqwert @ Jul 10, 2007 -> 05:33 PM) When people type "should of", "could of" or "would of". They are typing the sound of the contraction "should've" which should be spelled out as "should have". Well, if this is just going to turn into a thread taking potshots at Jason. . . I Kid Because I Care®

QUOTE(Controlled Chaos @ Jul 10, 2007 -> 04:53 PM) My buddy was a cop. He was talking to some homies on the street and asked the one what happened to his face. He said his old lady hit him with a smove. My buddy was like a smove? What the hell is a smove? He said you know you smove your clothes with it. My friend goes you mean an iron? and the dude goes...man you white people got words for everything!!!!!! I'm gasping for breath right now I'm laughing so hard.

QUOTE(Steff @ Jul 10, 2007 -> 04:41 PM) Is that more of a pronunciation thing or do they really spell it like that? Kinda like axe, ie.. "lemme axe you a question...." Pronunciation, I reckon. I cringe every time my otherwise well-spoken Mother says it.

QUOTE(Steff @ Jul 10, 2007 -> 04:21 PM) Jewels "I have to run to the Jewels and get some milk." After that I have to go home and wursh my clothes.

QUOTE(SoxFan1 @ Jul 10, 2007 -> 04:16 PM) "Hurted." I want to punch everyone within 10 feet of me in the face when I hear people use that word. That would have hurted them I bet.

QUOTE(NorthSideSox72 @ Jul 10, 2007 -> 03:56 PM) Centrifugal. Is NOT a word. Untrue. Centrifugal IS a word, it's just not the motion characteristic for circular motion (aka centripetal force) that most people believe it is. Using the term to describe societal movement away from central beliefs, for example, the centrifugal leanings of a separatist movement, is perfectly acceptable use of a real word that means to flee (Latin fugere) from the center.
