QUOTE(Felix @ Jul 27, 2007 -> 01:12 PM) Well, another tour going this year, you headed to a show Jim? I've got my tickets when they're in Jersey (perfect timing for when I go home for summer break), and the set list looks excellent. This time, Ike Willis is the guest of choice, I don't think Bozzio, Vai, or Murphy Brock will be there, but I'm excited to see Ike. I was away on work-related travel when the tour came through last time, so yeah, if they come withing a hundred miles or so of me I'm going to get there if at all possible. If only the Missuz was a fan, then we could plan a vacation around a show somewhere cool. . .

QUOTE(Balta1701 @ Jul 25, 2007 -> 04:38 PM) That wasn't an electoral college issue, that was an issue with the disaster that was Florida's voting system. That is true, but do you really think it's possible to have a national election result so close that the EC goes one way and the popular vote the other, yet have all of the voting go so smoothly in every state as to not be contested at all? I certainly don't.

QUOTE(Balta1701 @ Jul 25, 2007 -> 04:15 PM) Well, the odds say that as long as the system sits around as badly broken as it currently is, its probably only a matter of time before a Repub. wins the popular vote and a Dem winds up in office too, so... I'd give 5-4 odds against that happening.

QUOTE(Kid Gleason @ Jul 25, 2007 -> 03:02 PM) I don't know. We did get to see Brit's "window of love" and that was a little nauseating, to put it nicely. There's just something anti-sexual about that creature. Yeah, she needs to keep her creature under wraps. Like a bad rubber movie monster. . . This does lend credence to the notion put out there in the other thread that Spears and Lohan are in a contest to outdo each other in the crash-and-burn-jump-the-shark-hit-rockbottom olympics.

QUOTE(Soxy @ Jul 25, 2007 -> 10:26 AM) I also just want to say, and I've talked about this with my other Potterphile friends, but I was kind of sad by how Voldemort killed Snape. It was just so anti-climactic (and unfair). In the days since I've read the book, I think that's the one thing I really remember what, man, that really f'ing sucked. (But was totally within the range of the character.) Poor Severus. It was a necessary - if convenient - plot point, since there had to be a way for memories to flow out of his body along with the blood and he had to hang on long enough to tell Harry to take the memories. A killing Curse wouldn't have allowed that. A killing curse from the Elder wand directed at it's rightful owner also could have been problematic, and V was griping about the wand not yet being right, so he let Nagini do the work. Snape was also keenly interested in the now protected snake, and we found out why when we saw his memories. I could see V setting the snake on him on a spontaneous sadistic whim if he noticed how interested Snape had become in it.

QUOTE(DrunkBomber @ Jul 24, 2007 -> 11:42 PM) Man, if we got till November, between Lohan, Britney and Paris we can see three to four rehab stints, six DUIs, one custody battle, two eating disorders and Im sure we can squeeze Peta getting in there somehow. And way, way too many meat curtain shots.

QUOTE(knightni @ Jul 22, 2007 -> 03:43 AM) I don't see a reason for this thread at all now that we have spoiler covering-up with the new board. I disagree. Clearly sequestering all the spoilers in a single thread that I could choose to avoid is much preferable. if the server hiccups and just shows the tags around the spoilers rather than covering them, or if someone doesn't post them right, or if someone accidentally highlights them, there would be problems. My enjoyment of te book would have been greatly diminished had I found out any of the big plot twists prematurely.

QUOTE(Soxy @ Jul 21, 2007 -> 03:02 PM) I thought the doe was a bit heavy handed and obvious, but. . . Everything turned out as I had hoped. Although the epilogue was a bit schmaltzy for my taste. Nothing too surprising, except I totally thought Hagrid would die. QUOTE(Gregory Pratt @ Jul 21, 2007 -> 03:17 PM) The Epilogue was, IMO, garbage, especially the last page. The rest of the book was, IMO, brilliant. Finished early this morning - very satisfying but sad the saga is over. JK went with two of the most popularly theorized plot twists (Snape's loyalties and Harry as 7th Horcrux), but I really think those were the correct choices as that's what the books had been building up to. I was unsurprised as the second of these was revealed, but after the way she set Snape up by his actions in the beginning of the book I admit I began to doubt how she would resolve Snape. I was sooo worried that the epilogue was going to be schmaltzy and ho-hum wrap-up filler, and I actually really liked how she did it. It wasn't wrap-up so much as it was confirming the cycles of continuity in the Wizarding world. I think all of the kids being named for the fallen allies and family mebbers was touching and fitting, but I was left assuming that George had to have an unintroduced child named Fred out there somewhere since it wasn't covered by Harry's or Ron's kids. I was probably most surprised by the two earliest character deaths (Hedwig and Moody), because they happened quick and both of them had a thudding matter-of-factness that set the stage for the fatalities to follow. For the most part, killing peripheral characters was may be too safe and predictable a route, but I won't begrudge JK that. I didn't mind the doe, but sure, maybe a bit maudlin. The vehicle that was altogether too convenient and probably tied everything up a little too neatly was the Snape memories Pensieve session. But on an emotional level, i agrre with everybody that it hit the spot. The Dumbledore-as-ghost of-Obi-Wan Kings Cross exlpanatory chapter can be seen as another overly-convenient conceit but I actually think it makes sense within the context of Harry already unknowingly being the master of the Elder Wand - except that if I followed things correctly he shouldn't have been master over death since he had dropped Gaunt's ring and therefore didn't have control of the three Hallows at the time. What am I missing? Too much substantive knowledge was bestowed on Harry for it to have been entirely his imagination, right? I really thought it was quite good.

Bowie's in Space is my favorite FotC tune and I couldn't figure out how they were going to get it into the show. Now, if they can work Frodo, Don't Wear the Ring in somehow I'll be happy!

QUOTE(Balta1701 @ Jul 23, 2007 -> 12:21 PM) you should throw away your computer, because it is actually run by evil magic and you can never trust that it's not going to sprout arms and come after you. This is true though.

Please allow me to introduce myself, I'm a man of wealth and taste. A taste of honey tasting much sweeter than wine Spill the wine, take that girl Take your car, yes we will, we'll take your car and drive it. I've been waiting...I've been waiting for this moment all my life...but it's not quite right Something is wrong here! I don't belong here! My daddy he disowned me cause I wear my sister's clothes, he caught me in the bathroom with a pair of pantyhose. I see you shiver with antici... pation! Stop right there! I gotta know right now before we go any further. Do you love me? Will you love me forever? I'm in love but I sure picked a bad time to be in love. Even the bad times are good, as soon as i get to you, baby. Sixteen I fell in love with a girl as sweet as can be. Only took a couple of days till she was rid of me. Well, she used to run around with every man in town. Oooh Jackie, what fun you have had. Freaked out for another day. No fun, my babe, no fun. This is no social crisis. Just another tricky day for you, Fella. Mister America, try to hide the emptiness that's you inside. Forget about the brotherly and otherly love. Motherly Love is just the thing for you. The things that I used to do....Lord, I won't do no more. You know the sky, the sky's been cryin - Can't you see the tears roll down my nose? Oh, set me up with the spirit in the sky, that's where I'm gonna go when I die. You've blown it all sky high. And you can fly high as a kite if you want to. I want to get away, I wanna fly away. Straighten up and fly right. Cool down, papa, don't you blow your top. It's a family affair, it's a family affair. When you see me again I hope that you have been the kind of person that you really are now. But I always thought that I'd see you again. I thought I could feel (feel, feel, feel) music touching my soul, something warm, sudden cold. But it was just my imagination running away with me. Have I got a long way... to run. Running away to get away. Ha! Ha! Ha! Ha! You're wearing out your shoes. Time marches on I start to trip I start to fall. And now I'm running from something, running from something on my tail. I'm as 'bout as helpless as a leaf in a gale; and it looks like I've got a tiger by the tail. A dinosaur Victrola listening to Buck Owens. Doo doo doo, Lookin' out my back door. I'm a back door man. The men don't know, but the little girls understand. Li'l Sister, don'cha do what your Big Sister done. The only one who could ever reach me, was the son of a preacher man. We sat and talked about things on our mind and now this man he is a friend of mine. What your friends all say is fine but it can't compete with this pillow talk of mine. You talk a lot, but you're not saying anything. Oh well I'm sittin' here la-la waitin' for my ya-ya, uh-huh If I don't get some shelter Lord, I'm gonna fade away. Really want to see you Lord, but it takes so long, my Lord. He's so fine – Do-lang-do-lang-do-lang! Wish he were mine – Do-lang-do-lang-do-lang. Come on-a my house, my house-a come on. Now everything is easy 'cause of you. It seems so easy - ho ho so doggone easy - mm mm, it seems so easy. As simple as do-re-mi, ABC, 1 2 3, baby you and me. Baby, there's nothin' hard about love. Basically, it's as easy as pie. Easy not to judge you, Easy to betray, Easy to adore you though you want to run away. Do you only care about the bleeding crowd? How about a needing friend? I know many fine feathered friends. But their friendliness depends on how you do. Oh, baby, baby, it's a wild world. I'll always remember you like a child, girl. My name is Michael, I got a nickel, I got a nickel shiny and new. Money, its a hit. Don't give me that do goody good bulls***. And in the middle of negotiations I break down. Breakdown, go ahead and give it to me. Breakdown Honey, take me through the night.

QUOTE(sox4lifeinPA @ Jul 21, 2007 -> 12:04 PM) Suspensions only make the PA grow stonger you're just mad you didn't think of it before me! As a person who just celebrated his 12th Annual 29th birthday, I can safely say I'm not looking for more than one of those a year. My kids told me I'm a bajillion years old in dog years. :crying

I think I read in the board rules somewhere that double-dipping on birthday well-wishes was a suspendable offense. . . Happy Whatever, Jerkface.

QUOTE(Gregory Pratt @ Jul 20, 2007 -> 03:01 PM) I can tell you what happens via PM, if you'd like Not on your life. If I could lock myself in an attic until I finish reading it to avoid the spoilers I would.

QUOTE(Gregory Pratt @ Jul 20, 2007 -> 01:35 PM) Yeah, "The Seventh Horcrux" was a fanfic. I read something completely different. For what it's worth, The Real Book is only available in pictures and PDF. In .rar, is what I mean, by pictures. Kreacher's Tale is in the book I read. And the book I read matches up perfectly with the NYT Review this morning. Yeah, I've pretty much confirmed I have the real one now. But screw trying to read text off of those gawdfawful photos. Dang, I wish I didn't have an arseload of work to do this weekend. All I want to do is read this stoopid book.

I've done Chaos Ribs® twice now - once with baby backs and once with spareribs - and both times they received rave reviews. I'm going to tone down the paprika next time around and maybe add something else, but it's a winner!

QUOTE(Gregory Pratt @ Jul 20, 2007 -> 10:19 AM) Who told you it was a fanfic? QUOTE(Soxy @ Jul 20, 2007 -> 10:34 AM) Ummmm, Flaxx's post I quoted? QUOTE(Gregory Pratt @ Jul 20, 2007 -> 11:13 AM) Yeah, I was addressing him. Sorry. I initially downloaded the 73MB torrent that is supposed to be all the pages of HP7 photographed, but I ran into an unlock authorization code issue trying to unzip it on a Mac. After I had seen a couple of sites say that a transcription from the photos had been completed I found torrents for both a txt and a pdf purporting to be HP7 and that's what I started reading and was pretty impressed by. Then another news story noted conflicting chapter names for chapter 10 in two different leaked versions made me doubt the authenticity of what I was reading because the chapter 10 in my file had neither of those names. Some quick Googlemonkeying confirmed that I was in fact reading "The Seventh Horcrux" - a magnus opus fanfic by a hardcore Potter fan named Melindaleo that someone is now trying to pawn off as a leaked Deathly Hallows. For what it's worth I did finally get the zipped photo archive unlocked and I think this on is legit (chapter 10 is titled Kreacher's Tale, so we'll see if this one holds up). But the pages aren't even flatbed-scanned, they're photograpghed, so it's not worth even trying to struggle with knowing the book will be out in. . . 11 hours.
-
Well, I was able to unarchive the page-by-page scanned version, but I think trying to read it will give me a headache. Looks like I wait.
-
Yep. It's a FanFic. I've been duped. Oh, well, I can wait another 25.5 hours with everyone else.

QUOTE(greasywheels121 @ Jul 19, 2007 -> 07:02 PM) I thought the book was 784 pages. I could be wrong though, as I'm newly entrenched into this story. However, I'm trying to avoid reading even news articles on the book until I get to finally read it (which is after my friend who's buying it the night of). That's what the Scholastic print version will run, and that's what the page-by-page scanned torrent is, but the one I have is a pdf without the page formatting intact. No chapter illos, no page breaks between chapters etc., so it's not as many physical pages. And now up to page 67, if this is just a marathon fanfic (which the quality has me doubting), I'll be floored.

QUOTE(vandy125 @ Jul 19, 2007 -> 06:24 PM) I've heard that there are different versions of leaked copies. So, you may or may have gotten a real one. Of course, this could all be the publisher saying that there are different versions out there. I have not actually checked for obvious reasons. Don't think that hasn't crossed my mind about it being a sham version I'm reading. But if it is it's pretty darn good and somebody took an awful lot of time to write 659 pages to scam folks on the web. At any rate I'll know if I've been duped at 12:01 on Saturday when I pick up my legit copies at Barnes and Noble.
-
OK, I couldn't wait and I downloaded the leaked version off of BitTorrent. I'm about 50 pages in and already some surprises I hadn't expected.
