QUOTE(sox4lifeinPA @ Jul 31, 2007 -> 09:55 AM) yeah really. Who gets mocked for not liking pictures of shirtless men? Chippendale's talent scouts? -
Hacker group, it seems. According to the LA FOX affiliate, which means it's probably sensationalized and way over the top compared to reality.

Turns out Michelangelo Antonioni died yesterday as well. I think his stuff is visually stunning even if the plots were a little thin. Blowup is quite a good film. RIP

QUOTE(Balance @ Jul 30, 2007 -> 04:50 PM) Do you mean the Smurfit-Stone Building? I always thought it looked pretty neat. I heard that the architects had originall yneglected to put heating elements in the slanted roof and it was only after the first big snow in 1984 when there was a couple of inches accumulated on the roof that it dawned on them that they had the makings of a landslide on their hands and then went back and put in heating elements. Can anybody confirm this or is this the most urban of urban legends?

QUOTE(SoxFan101 @ Jul 29, 2007 -> 11:05 PM) These 2 new buildings especially the Spire kind of remind me of the skyline in Shanghai, which in my opinion looked much more impressive than what we have in Chicago. So, hopefully with these new additions, our skyline will possibly hold a candle to Shanghai's. . . Meh.

QUOTE(Heads22 @ Jul 28, 2007 -> 09:48 PM) My sarcasm didn't quite come through, I'm guessing. No, it didn't. Sorry, I didn't realize the site was all out of green.

QUOTE(Rex Kicka** @ Jul 29, 2007 -> 01:42 AM) The truth is though, that if you have 10 people at every debate, you get no real answers to any question. I agree there is a need to get past the cacophony, but the democratic solution would be to amend the debate process rather than exclude certain candidates from it. And when the ones doing the excluding have everything to gain by it it leaves a bad taste in the mouth of the voters.

QUOTE(SoxFan1 @ Jul 29, 2007 -> 02:08 AM) Like Rex said, right where the old Sun Times building was. 401 North Wabash. I'd say about 1/3 is completed. I like the way that one looks a lot more than the Spire. That one looks like it will fit its surroundings, even as large as it is.

QUOTE(southsider2k5 @ Jul 28, 2007 -> 06:07 PM) So how about the fun between Hillary and Barack? How do you guys feel about that stuff? What has irked me the most so far was finding out Edwards and Hillary were actively conspiring to keep everybody else out of the dialogue. Not cool.

QUOTE(Heads22 @ Jul 28, 2007 -> 12:27 AM) Will Mark ever stop with the Cardinal bulls***? Honestly... Give him a break, Bro. I find his fanboy devotion to the team he grew up on refreshing. Always have.

QUOTE(Brian @ Jul 26, 2007 -> 09:27 PM) Pro tools is good and very easy to use. I used that and Sound Edit 16 in college. I miss SoundEdit16 sooo much. When Macromedia bought it and then killed it off I was devastated.

QUOTE(greasywheels121 @ Jul 28, 2007 -> 06:58 AM) True, but I remember even Hagrid being uneasy about going near the spiders after Aaragog had died. And for good reason - they did turn him over to the Big V once they got hold of him. Perhaps had he not tried to get the Hogwarts fighters to not fire at them they would have just eaten him. Hagrid would have been killed in the Harry replicas chase if he wasn't Hagrid (if that makes sense) - nobody else would have survived the fall he did.
-
I think the spiders would have killed anybody but Hagrid. There was always an uneasy truce between them and the Hogwarts Gemekeeper.

QUOTE(mr_genius @ Jul 27, 2007 -> 05:59 PM) we will have a land mark that looks like a vibrator and one that looks like a bean Chicago rules Meat and One Veg? Actually, I kinda like the bean. It doesn't mess up the skyline and it is a fitting anchor for the Art Institute end of Grant Park. Jaded as I am about the Soldier Field renovation and the pending Vibrator, I admit that I really thunk they did a great job with Millenium Park.

QUOTE(Mplssoxfan @ Jul 27, 2007 -> 03:33 PM) A lot of the buildings in (on?) the skyline were considered hideous when they were initially built. There's the apocryphal tale of the society matron who hated the look of the John Hancock Tower so much that she bought a condo in the building. Why? So she wouldn't have to see it whenever she looked out her windows. I like the Spier, but I am enamored with Calatrava's designs in general. I don't mind the thing on its own but it does not seem evocative of any of Chicago's architectural heritage. As for Calatrava - I like a little of his sculpture that I've seen, and I like the Milwaukee Art Museum, but I would not like the Milwaukee Art Museum on Chicago's lakefront. Then again, I will always really dislike the Soldier Field renovation as well. I just don't like people focking with my Chicago skyline and lakefront too much.

Ugly. I'd rather let other cities build all the spacey looking stuff and just have my classic Chicago skyline.

QUOTE(Felix @ Jul 27, 2007 -> 02:53 PM) Doesn't look like they're going near Florida this year, but one of these years they have to And oops, it's actually Ray White this time around, not Ike Willis. It would be cool to see Ray, and I'm kind of surprised he was invited on. He was slated to be part of the Broadway the Hard Way tour (FZ's last ), but flaked out and disappeared early in pre-tour rehersals. Ike and Ray together always made for a fun group. Ike in particular used to strive to crack Frank up on stage during shows. All of the odd references to the old Lenny Bruce Lone Ranger routine that pop up in the '83-84 concert recordings was pretty much Frank and Ike trying to crack each other up.
