To paraphrase a verse from an old Utopia song... Happy Birthday to Soxtalk's Perfect Eleven from the neck on up! Now I'm a different guy I can't determine why Your Modus Operandi Turned me inside out It's not that I don't care About your fine hardware But you've got something else there I can't figure out Now I've found my heaven from the neck on up A perfect eleven from the neck on up...

QUOTE(winodj @ May 25, 2005 -> 04:51 PM) Turns out Newsweek was right after all. Oops. http://www.washingtonpost.com/wp-dyn/conte...395.html?sub=AR Big surprise.

And here's the other deleted scene with Biggs and a bunch of other friends of Luke's at Toshi Station. http://www.starwarz.com/tbone/cut_scenes/e...ggs_returns.htm I remember this from the novelization and also from the damn Star Wars trading cards that came out after Ep IV. Yet another scene that would have made sense putting back in place with the special editions...

QUOTE(Wedge @ May 24, 2005 -> 09:05 PM) Is this on the DVD? Ach! No, my memory is failing me once again. I guess it's my mind reinforcing that that was a scene they should have restored... The Yavin stuff they did add/extend, which made the "just like Begger's Canyon" conversation between Luke and Biggs during the X-wing battle more meaningful. The damn Tatooine scene is in some deleted/unfinished stuff that they did NOT put back in like I mis-remembered, but I have on a 'making of' program called "Behind the Magic" that came out a few years ago. The scene was shot as part of the original film, and was in Lucas' original novel/screenplay which is why I always remembered it should have been there since I was a kid. It had Biggs and another friend getting ready to leave to join up with te Rebellion. Since I feel bad about spewing misinformation, maybe I can make up for it by sending you to this site that has information on the history of that scene, stills and script, and actually has download links if you want to see the scene. Sorry. I guess it's just further proof I've tried to mentally block out most of the special edition alterations.

QUOTE(DonkeyKongerko @ May 24, 2005 -> 05:11 PM) This page discusses the Han Solo/Greedo shooting change. http://www.fecundity.com/pmagnus/greedo.html George Lucas has to be the most stubborn filmaker on the planet. When I was kid, the "Yeah, I'll bet you have" followed by Solo shooting Greedo was one of my favorite scenes of ANH. It's sad to think that most younger fans will never see it that way. Yep, just rewatched both versions. They screwed it up big time. I tend to forget how much they changed with the Special Editions because even though I own them it's always the original versions I'll put in to watch or play for my kids. I had forgotten how big a change that was. Now the two changes in Hope I do like is adding back the Han footage in the hanger bay with the new CG Jabba (and the "you're a wonderful human being" line from Han becomes great sarcasm) and the footage with Luke and Biggs on Tatooine. Running into Bigs later on Yavin never made much sense without seeing that establishing footage first.

QUOTE(Yoda @ May 24, 2005 -> 04:11 PM) A good example of making a re-do of that scene is this line... “When I left you I was just a learner..." it should be more like “When you left me...” I thought that as well, but please don't encourage Georgie to do any more revisions. Not that anybody could stop him.

RIP Thurl. Thurl did so many great voice characterizations. Half the voices at the Disney theme parks are him, and lots of animated characters as well. The sad thing is he didn't even get credit for his singing part in Grinch until a relreleased version just a few years ago. Boris Karloff was given entire narrative credit, and the song vocalist was left uncredited so the assumption by many was that it was also Karloff.

QUOTE(mreye @ May 24, 2005 -> 08:58 AM) OK. I never sais there are pro beheaders. I said they seem to be that way. Big leap, Jim. Maybe I was a bit too harsh, but that's how it somes across to me sometimes. Way to focus on one single word in my post. Let's let it be. We're all too inflamatory here sometimes. The real point is that villainizing the media, the anti-war camp, etc., instead of proactively addressing missteps and misdeeds done in behalf of the war doesn't solve anything. And we can be sure that now that the media has been battered and accussed of not fact checking as aggressively as they should, from here on out all of the things that go wrong are going to be topheavy with fact after gruesome fact. ... and of course the media will again be accused of sensationalism and sabotaging the war effort by publishing all the the facts, the pictures, testamonies, etc. that have been demanded of them.

QUOTE(mreye @ May 24, 2005 -> 08:45 AM) This entire thread is full of it Ach, from what I recall much of that 13 pages was just flames back and forth, but if you think I'll find a pro-behedding post or two in there I guess I'll dig back into it again. Thanks.

QUOTE(Texsox @ May 24, 2005 -> 08:20 AM) Congrats on the graduation. Seems like just yesterday he was teething Haha. Number One is the she, and her 5-year old brother is the he. And the big news there is that I think today is the day he gets off of his training wheels!!

QUOTE(mreye @ May 24, 2005 -> 08:22 AM) I said "seem" to agree. Don't misrepresent me. Don't misrepresent others here. I'll rephrase: Who here do you think seems to believe that ruthless, murdering extremists are martyrs? This would be an opportunity for them to clarify their positions. For that matter, I think characterizing anyone here as "happy" over the failures and mistakes of the military is hyperbole and misrepresentation. Again it's wholly unfair to dismiss the anti-war side or those more recently critical of apparent lapses and shortcomings as merely a bunch of misanthropes.

QUOTE(Texsox @ May 24, 2005 -> 07:57 AM) Stuff working like it is suppose to isn't usually newsworthy, or of any interest to most readers. Seems we were posting similar thoughts at the same time. Heck knows I'd rather see an hour of feelgood news most nights, compared to what I usually see. But, the world being what it is, the local headlines here yesterday were about the 8-year old girl raped and left in a landfill to die by her attacker (she was found alive thankfully) and not about Brian Hill's return to the Magic, the big theater festival opening this week, or my kid graduating from first grade today. That's the way the news works.

QUOTE(mreye @ May 24, 2005 -> 07:21 AM) Do Muslim extremists go after the people beheading innocent civilians? No, they're "martyrs." Some here seem to agree with that. That disgusts me. Pretty big accusation there. Big fan of fact checking that you are, please - when you get a chance - dig out the posts of anybody here who is pro beheading of innocent civilians, or thinks that makes anybody a martyr. I missed all of those posts and I'm sure it would change my opinion of posters if anybody flat out made such statements. Characterizing those people who either opposed the war from the outset or else have become critical of the effort as problems, misdeeds, and false premise have come to light as misanthropes is as unfair and unjustified as anything being leveled by either side in these debates. It's important to remember that the military is expected to do its job, in combat and in handling detainees. All of the details of the all the days that go right are not necessarily newsworthy - those days are what we should all expect if we have any faith in our military. It's not fair, to be sure, but it's the way it is. You can perform your job quite capably and get glowing performance reviews every year and it's not a blip on the radar. But if you screw up it comes to light rather quickly.

QUOTE(DonkeyKongerko @ May 24, 2005 -> 12:13 AM) Yeah what's the deal with replacing Jedi ghosts? I'm surprised he didn't replace Alec Guinness with Ewan McGregor too. Anyone miss the original ending song of ROTJ? Or the original cantina scene where Han Solo shoots first? Gawd yes on the Jedi Changes - both the last song and the replacement song by Sy Snoodles/Max Rebo song at Jabba's palace are perfect axample of where he made changes just because he could, and not because the improved the film in any way. But, dang, I though Greedo always got off a shot in te cantina even in the original New Hope... I gotta watch that again.

QUOTE(greasywheels121 @ May 23, 2005 -> 11:27 PM) I've watched all the old ones on consecutive nights since seeing Ep 3. My friend got the original trilogy on DVD recently. It's kind of cool, we just got done watching Return of the Jedi. At the end, when everyone is celebrating. Luke sees the spirit of Obi Wan and Yoda. They added the young Darth in (Hayden whatever his name is). Yeah, the special edition of the special edition I guess. There comes a time when you eant to say, "George, they're fine already, just leave them alone!!" I dislike that change from teh original. It was a 30+ years older Anakin that was redeemed at the end of Jedi, and I think that Anakin (minus the disfigurement dismemberment) should be the one we see in spirit.

QUOTE(CubKilla @ May 23, 2005 -> 10:39 AM) When Leia tells Luke about her "mother," I'm quite sure she was referring to her "adoptive mother" since, at the time this was said, neither Luke, Leia, Vader..... nor the audience for that matter, knew that Luke or Leia were brother and sister and that Vader was their father. That's not true though... Luke knew at the time of the convervation (on the Endor moon after the Obi Wan spirit had told him on Degobah), and it was revealed to Leia shortly thereafter when tells Luke, "I know... somehow I've always known..."

QUOTE(greasywheels121 @ May 23, 2005 -> 01:30 AM) Is your name from "Empire?" I've been watching the old ones again, just to see what I pick up on now. I noticed in the Hoth battles, there's a pilot named Wedge. Wedge was the only monor character in all three of the original films. He was part of the original Rebel X-Wing fighter group gunning for the Death Star in Hope, was in the Hoth battle as you said, and was part of the final attack on the new Death Star in Jedi. He's the guy in the orange pilot suit partying down with everyone and the Ewoks in the final scene of Jedi. His last name is Antilles, so I assume there is a familial tie in to Captain Antilles who took over ownership of C3P0 and R2D2 between Sith and Hope.

QUOTE(DonkeyKongerko @ May 23, 2005 -> 12:57 AM) One more continuity nitpick: Remember when Leia tells Luke she remembers her mother was very beautiful but sad all the time? I'm pretty sure the original meaning of this was that Leia remembered her birth mother. Yet, we see in Episode III that there is no way Leia could remember Padme. What gives George? I'm sure you are right about the original intent. But I can see Senator Organas' wife being pretty much a sad sack while Leia grows up with the Republic falling apart around them too.

QUOTE(Cy Garland @ May 22, 2005 -> 10:27 PM) I hope they make an episode 3.5 I could be wrong but I thought that was the timeframe to be covered in the 2006 television installments.

QUOTE(Cy Garland @ May 22, 2005 -> 10:15 PM) SPOILERS I dont know if anyone else understood this part than me but at the end where Yoda tells Obi wan that Qui Gon has made contact from the dead and he will teach him how, that is how he talks to Luke in 4,5 and 6. I was the only one out of my group that understood that. No, you weren't the only one. It was a really good way to segue into a new manifestation of the Force (communing from beyond) that was nowhere to be seen in Eps I/II/III but then is front and center in New Hope and later. I thought it was well done. It also goes a long way to explaining why Obi Wan stops fighting and takes on a meditative posture right before vader strikes him down in Hope, as he probably had to get in the right mindset to direct his will/spirit to whatever existence it had to take on to be able to speak to Luke later. Now, what I didn't much like at the end of Sith – from a continuity standpoint – was seeing Vader and the Emperor together on the ship bridge watching the Death Star being constructed. Vader being basically the right hand guy during the construction flies in the face of his, "Don't be to proud of this technological terror you've created..." rant to the generals in Ep IV. Not a big deal I guess, but as much as Lucas puts the continuity cops on all teh writers doing novels and comics and such, he could spend a little more time worrying about continuity himself.
