  1. I'm heading out in about a half-hour to make the drive across the state for the game. If Shingo blows a save I'll be the one in the replica Sox jersey the're hauling off the field to jail after I jump the wall and beat him senseless. No sweep in the Juice Box!
  2. Pong With the small paddles not the big ones, of course.
  3. I thought this was the year we were going to beat the teams we're supposed to beat.
  4. QUOTE(retro1983hat @ May 10, 2005 -> 03:03 PM) The BEST baseball game ever, for those who remember, was the Intellivision Baseball. That is the one where the ump would yell "YOOOOUUUUUUURE OOOOUUTTTTT!" I wasted weeks of my young life playing that game – damn those disc controllers hurt your thumbs! IIRC, you could only hit ground balls on that though, unless they were out of the park. You could catch a ball at the track and you still had to throw the runner out at first (those outfielders had arms like cannons ), but that same ball would be a homerun if you didn't catch it. The Intellivision game was so much better than the crap-tacular Atari baseball that was out at the time – the one that only had three fielders who all moved in unison when you moved the joystick. The baseball game is one of the 20 or so games in the Intellivision handset you can buy now – I got it for my 5-year old (or so he thinks). The problem is that the game doesn't play well because the controller is a Nintendo style joystick-Abutton-Bbutton dealie and without the kaypads of the original Intellivision controllers it's impossible to select the fielders you want to control. I still kick ass on that Astrosmash game though.
  5. QUOTE(Chisoxfn @ May 10, 2005 -> 12:55 AM) Best of all I'm pretty sure the new DVD players will be backwards compatible so people won't have to replace all there old DVD's. They better be damn it. That's been confirmed by the big players at the outset of BluRay development - units will have both a red and a blue lazer in them to ensure backward compatability.

  9. QUOTE(Punch and Judy Garland @ May 9, 2005 -> 04:11 AM) I remeber that great Colon game ont he 4th of July where Koch gave up the bomb to Crawford. Uh. LEt's erase those types of memories by taking care of business. As bad as Nomo-san is, we haven't had a lot of guys see him too much so hopefully we do take a good approach I was there at that game 2 years ago, and it was not good. We dropped 2 of 3 that series. This year I'm only able to pull away to head across state for the day game Wednesday (stupid work), but I look forward to seeing Duque pitch... looking to extend the streak to 11 by then hopefully...
  10. QUOTE(YASNY @ May 8, 2005 -> 11:54 AM) Trying to remember this one .... They got him from Cleveland, I know. I think they traded John Romano for him. Not sure. In the event that I'm correct: Who was the Sox rookie SS that made the cover of Sports Illustrated before they broke camp in spring training? Harry Chappas From on old fart to another Whos the only White Sox player to have worn his complete birth date on his jersey?
  11. QUOTE(southsider2k5 @ May 6, 2005 -> 02:24 PM) Then by your logic, there shouldn't be any cars, products, farms, factories, homes, or even humans to pollute and use the planet. The irrational exaggerations are just that, irrational. Well, yes, I do think the long-term prognosis for the planet would be somewhat less dire if our branch of the family tree would have been quickly dispatched by sabertooth cats at the outset.
  12. Apparently you're nota believer in the sacred power of the Virgin Cheese Sandwich. Heretic!
  13. QUOTE(southsider2k5 @ May 6, 2005 -> 02:02 PM) The Louisiana Purchase and Alaska are still all owned by the US government? That's news to me. Actually chunks of both still are, with much more in Alaska of course. But you'd never have approved of their purchase since they made the US government "the single biggest landholder in this country." which you consider to be bad. I'm just extending your logic.
  14. QUOTE(southsider2k5 @ May 6, 2005 -> 01:52 PM) And that is exactly the problem with this country. People think it is OK that the US government is the single biggest landholder and employer in this country. Not a big fan of Teddy Roosevelt and his legacy, huh? What do you think would have happened to a lot of those lands 50 years ago if the United States hadn't shown a rare flash of foresight and given them federal protection. And you'd have balked at the Louisanna Purchase and the Alaska purchase as well because, hell, what does the US government need all that land for anyway, right?
  15. Iraqi Diner... do they serve good food there?
  16. No, that's not a typo or a cutsey name. It's real and true Whore College.
  17. QUOTE(KipWellsFan @ May 5, 2005 -> 05:07 PM) I wonder what God thinks? God hates trees. And clean air. And water with too little arsenic in it. And protecting endangered animals....

  20. QUOTE(Kid Gleason @ May 5, 2005 -> 03:41 PM) I kept thinking it was Hannah. Isn't the theme song even available on a CD now? I could swear I have it somewhere. Didn't he have a strange voice saying "Catch the pigeon, pidgy, pidgy" or something of the sort? The "Catch the Pigeon" sonmg parody was atake off on the New Orleans jazz standard "Hold That Tiger": Catch the Pigeon Catch the Pigeon Catch the Pigeon... Dastardly: HOWWWWW!?! There is a very nice cover of the tume in a medley with the Johny Quest theme song on the very entertaining Saturday Morning compilation that came out a few years back. Sung by none otehr than the Reverend Horton Heat who I believe a few folks 'round here were bashing a few days back. On that Saturday Morning album, any power pop fans out there that remember the gone-too-soon midwest band Material Issue, they did a nice cover of the Banana Splits theme on there. Spider Man by the Ramones and Hong Kong Phooey by Sublime are fun too.
