    The Vic..

QUOTE(The Critic @ Apr 25, 2005 -> 01:12 PM) All I've ever seen at the Chicago Theatre are comedy shows. Sam Kinison, Chris Rock, Margaret Cho - all at the Chicago. Good times!! The sound is s*** at the Aragon. All the time, for every show. That place has horrible acoustics, the high end just gets swallowed up by the bass and drums. Muddy as hell. And it's not that small, capacity is around 4,000 or so, I believe. As awful as I think the Aragon is, I have a weird fondness for the place, since I've seen some GREAT metal shows at that hole! For a time in the 80's, almost EVERY metal show worth seeing took place at the Aragon. I saw two Zappa Chicago Theater shows during what turned out to be his last tour. Among the best concerts I ever saw. And I may be getting the Aragon and the Embassy mixed up in my mind. I know I saw Stevie Ray Vaughan at both venues pre-1985 and I think ít might actually be the Embassy I liked and not teh Aragon. What the hell was I doing during those concerts that my memories are so clouded...?

    The Vic..

I always loved the Vic. I haven't been to a Vic concert since a New Year's Eve Todd Rundgren show more tthan 10 years ago. I liked Metro and park West also, but for the sheer grandeure (sp??), the Chicago Theater was an amazing place to see music and Uptown not too far behind. Aragon Ballroom was a nice small venue as well, if I'm remembering right. Damn, there are/were som great places to catch shows in Chicago.
  5. Many returns of the day to you all.
  6. I can with near-certainty guarantee that the Falstaff brand will be sold and resurrected in someone else's portfolio. The original Falstaff Brewery got into serious financial trouble back in teh early 70s spreading itself too thin with the Ballentine acquisition, and it had been a hard grind and a bounce from brewery to brewery ever since. But there is too much history and name recognition for the brand to stay dormant for too long.
  7. QUOTE(Texsox @ Apr 23, 2005 -> 01:05 PM) But he made that bed. There's a bed in the Oval Office??
  8. Right now, that young one does kinda look like the bastard son of Golem and Yoda though, doesn't he? But yes, he will get more hair and not be quite so homely soon. They're sttill on the ugly side of the lemur family tree though.

QUOTE(Wong & Owens @ Apr 22, 2005 -> 03:25 PM) She sounds like a real advocate for the people: The following organizations have taken an official position on this nominee: Yeah, if this is one example of Cheney's "nominees who are well qualified and broadly supported," then I'd hate to see the opinions on those nominees without such a groundswell of support.

I can't say it any better than Schumer did here:
  12. Ah, 22... I remember it as if it was... uhm..., er.., 5.. 7... 8, carry the 3... er.. [runs out of fingers]. Nevermind. Enjoy, and suffice to say you have at least 8 mor years before your body starts to fall apart on you.
  13. QUOTE(EvilMonkey @ Apr 21, 2005 -> 09:57 AM) I thought it was LESS cents because of the exchange rate?
  14. QUOTE(ChiSoxyGirl @ Apr 21, 2005 -> 09:01 AM) Just finished grading (after a loooooooooooong night) 171 essay tests. And now am going on Vacation to Atlanta. Back Tuesday. Don't miss me too much. Yeah, even Atlanta sounds more fun than grading 171 papers!
  15. QUOTE(mreye @ Apr 21, 2005 -> 07:43 AM) I laughed out loud at that, but then I remebered you're from Canada. It all makes sense now. True, things do make more sense up there.
  16. So as to not offend the easily offendable, I'll put this here and not in one of the official Popewatch threads. Good to see I'm not the only one who thinks Benny 16 looks too much like Emperor Palpatine for his own good.
  17. So the Taliban can get back into radio but Stern can't get his ClearChannel gig back?
  18. 16. Don't drink anything that is on fire.
  19. QUOTE(CrimsonWeltall @ Apr 19, 2005 -> 11:13 PM) St. Malachy probably made these predictions after a Mother Teresa in his tortilla spoke to him. DO NOT mock the Power of the Tortilla...
  20. QUOTE(ChiSoxyGirl @ Apr 19, 2005 -> 10:19 PM) Dude, I went to St. Olaf College. You have to take a Lutheran History/Theology exam just to get in. Luther... Luther... Luther... Oh, wait. He's that bald guy who is Superman's arch nemesis, right? So do I get in to your school now??
  21. QUOTE(Steff @ Apr 19, 2005 -> 02:56 PM) The church is hurtin for members in the US. They look the other way on many things as long as you attend and give. IMO. Right you are. And American Catholics feel they are more with the times than the orthodox official coming from the Vatican. So why embrace continued elevation of the orthodox and very conservative version instead of pointing out that it may well be Rome that needs to come of age? JMHO
  22. One week I can live with. We need to get the shuttles going again.
  23. QUOTE(Kid Gleason @ Apr 19, 2005 -> 01:47 PM) That's an awful lot of "naughty words" in a religious themed thread. Rock on to the new guy! Hope he does some good, though I am not expecting him to be doing evil stuff. Kind of would go against the job, eh? You would think. Do I need tyo repost the link to the bad popes to refresh memories that it hasn't always been the case? :rolly
  24. QUOTE(WilliamTell @ Apr 19, 2005 -> 01:14 PM) I was joking with you. I'm one of the 60 million or however many that follow Martin Luther. If Lutheran's had a pope I wouldn't expect you to care either. But we don't need one and we live just fine. Don't need one? You mean you don't rate one. Sounds like pontiff envy to me.
