    Trick or Treat!

The Jack Chick booklets are some scary s***. If you get the time take a look at the suicide on and the evolution one - two of my all time favorites. And, yes, I do remember getting those damn things from people on Halloween. And, no, the books freaked me out way to much to tthink about egging their house.

    Dream Vacation

We must be reading from different books. It's gotta be the tides, baby. Bay of Fundy is one of those places that most everyone in the marine science professions has on their life lists, along with places like the Great Barrier Reef, the north Pacific rocky intertidal, the 1/2-mile wide mudflats in Wales... I've made it to those other places, so Fundy is next on that list. Edit: You can add a few places in Hawaii and around the Pacific Rim to that list as well. So many cool places to see... so few international professional meetings to feign interest in.

    Dream Vacation

I have a whole world list I'm trying to chip away at. Wgen I can do it on the company dime, staying over an extra week or so after conferences and whatnot, all the better. But for the next few years I really want to concentrate on all the North American destinations I have not made it to and should have by now. Crand Canyon, Bay of Fundy in Arctic Quebec, San Francisco, Colarado, and New Mexico top the list.
  5. Bank Robber, kidnapping, random acts against authorities. That could be a fun weekend.
  6. No, seriously. I need to update my style I think...
  7. OK, I admit I had to do a search to see the actual Ten Commandments in front of me. The grade school nuns would be pissed if they knew... But, I'd have to say that you'd need a pretty big shoehorn to fit 'all the major laws' under that roof. All of the laws that arose out of the Clean Air Act, Endangered Species Act, or the Marine Mammal Protection Act - they are major laws. You could possibly argue that harming the environment is stealing from thy neighbor, or maybe it is injuring God if you take a more Gaian viewpoint. That is just one set of examples, but, short of some major contortionism it's a tall order to get all the major laws that keep things humming out of the Big 10.
  8. I'm glad you do care, and I can use some new ones. Again, the rebuttal point was merely that a statement ascerting a ZERO constitutional weigh-in on state and church matters is factually incorrect. And you don't even have to read that far into the thing to get to it either. Now if it had been WAY down in ammendment 7 or 8 or something, I can see how it would be easier to miss...

    Happy 22 Donkey

22 -- I remember it like it was yesterday. Which means the last 15 years are just a big blur! Have fun!
  10. I appreciate your pointing out the Jefferson's fully fleshed out State and Church writings are elsewhere in the body of the Constitution. But to say a concept of Church-State separation has "ZERO Constitutional basis..". I'd have to say that is a bit hyperboloc (that is to say, a pretty big stretch). “Congress shall make no law respecting an establishment of religion...” Now, where is that from again? Hint: It's NOT an Epistle from Jeff to the Baptists.
  11. Hate to break it to you Cheat, but they had to put the poor gator in that picture down - he was too badly injured to be saved. White trash assholes...
  12. There are still a couple of days left to pull bin Laden out of a cave. It's something I would like to see more than probably anyone. But since it hasn't happened yet (since Bush "doesn't think too much about him") in all this time, I'll be more than happy to wait and see it happen on or shortly after Nov. 3.
  13. Shhhhh. Don't wake anybody up, Tex.
  14. But, the Bush-ordered unilateral American offensive in Iraq is against the agreements of the Geneva Convention we are supposed to adhere to. By definition, that technically makes him a war criminal according to international law. I'm not suggesting America doesn't have a right to defend herself from an imminent -- and I'm most certainly not saying Iraq was anything that could have even been remotely considered an imminent threat (unless you are in the Bush Administration).
  15. Kerry did not blame the troops - he once again blamed the Administration for being unable to execute the war correctly and for not having enough troops there to do what needs to be done. Bush is the one who accused Kerry of blaming the troops, because his saying somethin - anything - wrong about how the war is goin is being spun that way to keep the lemmings confused and make it seem like attacks on Bush are actually attacks on the troops. Guliani DID blame the troops because they, not the President, were there and they should have been able to secure the facility.
  16. I got the point of the post. The point is that you can accuse people of throwing anything at the wall and hoping something sticks when the reality is exactly opposite that. This has bbeen the teflon Adminnistration. They have stepped in it at every turn, they are brazen in their arrogance and unmatched in their ineptness - yet they manage to somehow spin the f*** up du jour over and over and over until what they say is as good as the truth for a frightening number of citizens. If you need refreshing, heres a link to wino's list of facts about Bush's record. And so I missed the point that I'm not lining up to throw in behind your guy if he is reelected even though we all need to put the ugliness behind us... There are already too many lemmings throwing in behind him now, and that is why we are where we are at today.
  17. Hopefully your guy will be right back there in a couple months too.
  18. I'm going to take the liberty of pasting the hilights for those too lazy to check the link. Maybe folks here getting all ticked off at Kerry for jumping on this and 'sending him a big f*** YOU' had better redirect that at someone more deserving. And the best way to send that message is with your vote on Tuesday.
  19. I'd have to agree. The all sins are equal is a little too Immanuel Kant categorical Imperative for me. Then again, back in the dark days of my Catholicism, I did like the repent with sincerity and it's all good rule. The old 11th hour deathbed confession has been a Catholic life strategy for generations. Having fun and being sorry for it at the end is a lot easier than being good all the damn time, ain't it?
  20. No, actually the problem is that then you won't be screwed. Not for a very, very looong time.
  21. Then the ring won't be cubit zirconium.... at least as far as she knows.
  22. I'm all for the rotating Mod idea 100% I think it's beneficial from both sides, because it gives more folks a chance to contribute but it also gives those that have pulled a tour of duty a chance to take a breather. Let's make it so.
  23. Is this the facility in question. Isn't that Luke Skywalkers old home on Tatooine?
  24. Yeah, but that means that that hot "7 of 9" borg chick wife of his is available, right? Sooo much hotter than any green alien thing Kirk ever tagged.
