  1. OK, I did mis-speak. This story is crazy, but true - like so much in this election cycle.
  2. Yeah, there is way too much crap eminating from all directions, that is for sure. But I'm still blown away by the brazenness of dis-information/intimidation campaigns like this one aimed at black voters in Milwaukee -- supposedly by a black voter organization (that doesn't really exist). This was from the Sierra Club voter information website, and is not some crazy story from The Onion:
  3. Yes, luke-warm Bush is less than ideal...
  4. Sure it counts. I'll make a note of it and put it in your file...
  5. Only for the life of the loan...
  6. Well... How about floating me $200K or so...?
  7. Let's keep it open for the non, but with an eye out for mudslinging. For those keeping score, F4H (any relation to I4E?) was the first to denigrate the original blogger (who has a right to anonymously state a point of view and to preface it with some personal background for others to take in), and also the first to resort to personal attacks on othern posters here (Me = Cluless for supporting the blger's position, according to F4H). That F4H does not see he was the first to go down that road, not Steff or anyone else here on this thread, is unfortunate. So let's play nice and the thread can stay open.
  8. I'm staring at something called an 'InterestFirst 10/20' that is a 30 year fixed rate loan, but where you are just paying the interest on the loan for the first 10 years of the loan. That would save me about $200 a month now, and hopefully FutureFlaxx will ave more scratch and can pay the higher monthly nut down the road.
  9. OMFG! I'm filling out an online mortgage app this very minute, and I have such a big headache. It would be less trouble to just give up the thoughts of moving into a new place.
  10. And the fact that he did not identify himself is important. The guy is expressing HIS personal political views, not in any official military capacity but as a US citizen who happens to be an officer in the reserves. And I agree, how many reservists thought they would be put into tis sort of position when they signed on - let alone things loke stop loss and ready reserve call-ups? Sure, it's there in the fine print when you sign on the line, but it is not what what most would have anticipated.
  11. It is at least heartening to know there are also those in the military who do not share your viewpoints. Here's a thoughtful response to that original blog from an ex-military and current reservist.
  12. A Fox/Apparicio tandem statue should be next, no doubt about it.
  13. Good move, Rock was one of my all time favorites. How is his health? I haven't followed it closel, but he was diagnosed with lupis a while back, right? Of no consequence... I now have an old t-shirt up in my closet that reads "White Sox Triple Threat," and has at-bat illos of Frank, Ozzie, and Rock on it. Hot-damn, that trio is reunited (sorta).
  14. Happy Birthday, and never mind the eye - just protect those yarbles!
  15. psephology: the scientific study of elections I had to look that one up.
  16. About a month ago this made national news because in Egypt and some othet countries where this is the custon, men have been divorcing their wives by textmessaging them on their cell phones "I divorce you" 3x. the wives were throwing out their cell phones, forgetting to charge them, etc., so they couldn;t get the messages. When I read the story I couldn't elp thinkong of the old Steve Martin bit where a man divorced his wife by saying "I break with thee... I break with thee... I break with thee..." and then throwing dog poop on their shoes. Wow, I really date myself with that reference, don't I?
  17. making the small states matter is the only reason to keep the system, but even so I think it makes the rest of the country do a lot of comtortionism just to try to make the small states matter. And the truth is it is the campaigns that decide if small states matter. It was kind of sad tto here that Cheney's visit to Hawaii is the first time anybody on a Presidential ticket has campaigned there since Nixon in the late 60s. That's how much 4 electoral votes might matter tomorrow. But really, if direct elections are acceptable for 99% of the country's elected offices, why not just make it a clean sweep and do away with the Electoral College?
  18. If you're really nice one day I'll post the lyrics to "Experimental Love" -- my statistical love song I wrote back while I was wading through biometry and experimental design grad courses. As proof of concept that an enertainer can definately be too erudite for his audience, I brought many coffee house music nights to a screetching halt with ditties like that one.
  19. Don't fool yourself, you're completely that dorky... I'm way too lazy to read this entire thread, but the hypothetical analysis you proposed seems like it might be better served with a good old fashioned science-fair-special chi-square kind of approached, wherein you could test whether the observed (actual) mean votes per person differs significantly from an expected value (derived from the states that are neither too low or too high).

    Trick or Treat!

Do you want your house to get egged?!? If not, they'd better be really killer sammiches.
  21. Don't listen to this man, citizens. Mods run the show. Everyboday knows that.

How could I have believed in all that Evolution crap for so long? Thank you Jack Chick!
