November 1, 200421 yr I just wanted to remind you all to not let you emotions get the best of you while posting on the board. While it's perfectly fine and we encourage you to post Tuesday nite, please think before you post. We don't want anyone saying or posting anything they they might regret. Whether your candidate wins or loses we've had some awesome discussions here and I'd like to see those continue through Tuesday nite while keeping personal attacks and the such nonexistant. Alex
November 1, 200421 yr Agree. I know who I am voting for, but won't try and plead my case or put others down for having different beliefs. Whomever wins, I will try and support and hope for the best.
November 1, 200421 yr Good call, Alex...You've got a good cool head on your shoulders. Now if only we could hold to those rules in the religion threads... :rolly

November 1, 200421 yr We here in the military will be pulling almost uni-laterally in one direction for our Commander in Chief.... Sucks for you guys that the Packers won.
November 1, 200421 yr Sucks for you guys that the Packers won. Eh, I don't believe the hoopla on that. A 5'9" 178lb Virginian A1C broke his leg on Saturday. History says that when an airmen under 6' in height who weighs between 175-180 lbs -- and from the state of Virgina -- breaks his leg on the Saturday before the election, the incumbent wins. The Redskins winning or losing is kind of like that....

November 1, 200421 yr Anyone know a good site that thoroughly explains the USA election system because I'm really not sure what an electoral vote or anything like that is? Any help would be great.
November 1, 200421 yr Anyone know a good site that thoroughly explains the USA election system because I'm really not sure what an electoral vote or anything like that is? Any help would be great. Basically the canditate with the highest popular vote in a particular state wins all of that states electoral votes. There are couple states that allocate a percentage of votes based on percentage of popular votes. But I believe 47 states are winner take all.

There are couple states that allocate a percentage of votes based on percentage of popular votes. But I believe 47 states are winner take all. Yah that's pretty much what I thought. I don't think the winner takes all thing is very smart, but I'm no expert on the subject. Thanks
November 1, 200421 yr I hope that this election won't carry on for some time like 2000 but I'm starting to have doubts that it'll be decided tomorrow.
November 1, 200421 yr Thanks to the election tomorrow, I won't have to go to school. I am working as a poll book holder. Should be a fun day and good experience.
November 1, 200421 yr My question is why isn't election day a national holiday? If you want people to go out and vote give them the day off, don't make them work around their schedule to fit time in to go vote.

There are couple states that allocate a percentage of votes based on percentage of popular votes. But I believe 47 states are winner take all. Those two states are Maine and Nebraska. Colorado is also putting that up for a vote this Tuesday Disadvantages of Electoral College -Winner of the popular vote doesn't necessarily win the election -Candidates won't visit all states on campaign trail -Sometimes an elector will go against the state's wishes -College isn't reflective of state's wishes all the time Advantages of Electoral College -Small states get fair representation -In most cases, there will be a clear-cut winner -President has more public support -Some independent thought by Electors isn't all bad; prevents the public from electing an incompitent boob.

The advantages of the electoral college sound like stretches. - Small states get greater representation, whether it's "fair" is debatable. - If anything, the popular vote will be far more clear-cut. - Like the "Hail to the thief" of 2000??? (Not my own opinion, I just mean the public support was not there.) I don't see this at all. - We got Coolidge, didn't we? I don't think electors are any smarter than the rest of us, just more partisan. IMO the only possible justification is your first one, that it's somehow more "fair". But I don't see how to justify that statement.
November 1, 200421 yr I have no clue as to vote for.... I'm an undecided voter in an Battle State... Oh boy... Someone try to recruit me...
