4-21 Gamethread White Sox Vs. Rays
FlaSoxxJim replied to joejoedairy's topic in 2010 Season in Review
PK's gonna' step on or plunk every Ray he can. -
I go to most of the Sox@Rays games down here by myself. I can usually drag my family out for one game but I fly solo for the others. I've also seen games by myself at Fenway, Miami, and the Phillies park (Citizens Bank I think it's called). They've all been a blast.

QUOTE (bigruss22 @ Apr 21, 2010 -> 02:33 PM) How did you get her off the floor? Not dissing your moves, but that floor is gross, stickiest floor you will ever step on. That basement has been an underage puke factory for at least three generations.

QUOTE (RockRaines @ Apr 21, 2010 -> 12:58 PM) Yes, Mark Buehrle's no hitter. Dang, I bet noone believes it happened when you tell them.

:gosox3: About time. Let's keep it up now.

Students in grad school together, although she was from the wrong side of the tracks as it were. She was a Biological Oceanography major while I was a Marine Biology major. It's utterly amazing we were able to find enough in common to bridge that huge divide in academic interests, I know. We actually didn't start dating until more than a year later. I was supposed to be meeting a different girl out at a bar but I had car trouble and had to hoof it so she left before I got there. My future wife was sitting at a table with friends and the seat next to her was empty so I sat down and we went from there.

QUOTE (Controlled Chaos @ Apr 20, 2010 -> 04:52 PM) You're going on a first date with a girl. It's either a blind date or a girl you barely know. Where do you go?? Dinner and a movie or dinner and drinks. Don't drop more than $150-200 on the night but don't come off as cheap either.

QUOTE (G&T @ Apr 18, 2010 -> 09:34 PM) I'm guessing that was also the last time they had a good second half. In the last decade, I can't remember the Sox having a strong 2nd half. 2000 may have been the last time.

QUOTE (G&T @ Apr 20, 2010 -> 02:45 PM) Yes. One brewery that comes immediately to mind is Oskar Blues. They have a pils or a pale I think. That will be light enough. Seconding Oskar as a great canned beer choice. They decided to go cans specifically to satisfy a demand for craft beer among campers and outdoorsey types. Dale's Pale and Old Chub (a Scottish style ale) are my favorites, but the Yella Pils is not bad either. Haven't had their Gordon's double IPA yet.

QUOTE (Tex @ Apr 20, 2010 -> 02:03 PM) Just called four more, there isn't any El Dorado available near me. I recall seeing the Kraken Spiced Rum. I should put together a master list and just hit the stores and mix to what is available. I also just realized they may be more available in Mexico. Maybe I will take a run across the border. Are there any Cuban rums of note? Ones that would be unavialable in the US. Gawd Yes! Authentic Havana Club 3yr and 7yr are raved about as being world class rums,a nd the Havana Club white is pretty much the signature daiquiri rum. I have never had the pleasure of trying any of them, but if you can get them by all means do so.

QUOTE (Tex @ Apr 20, 2010 -> 01:34 PM) I couldn't find the El Dorado at two liquor stores near me. Then they suck. Sub equal parts Pussers and Appleton V/X. Or, give Kraken Spiced Rum a try. I have yet to try Kraken but I'm dying to. Lots of rum folks who eschew commercial brand spiced rums on principle have raved about the Kraken. Just keep your eyes peeled for the El Dorado 5 year, or for Lemon Hart 80 if you get it by you (I don't). Even if the stores you stopped in at don't stock it I bet someone near you does. I literally have to go to about a half-dozen stores to find the whole range of what makes it into the area.

QUOTE (Tex @ Apr 19, 2010 -> 01:53 PM) Tonight will be the recipe you sent a couple days ago. I need to make a liquor store stop on the way home. Your ladyfriend will think you are a cocktail rockstar after she tastes your Tahitian Sunset.

QUOTE (Tex @ Apr 19, 2010 -> 07:04 AM) Placing an order . . . Good man. When it arrives I'll give you a heads-up on some recipe tweaks in the new version that I think Jeff messed up ingredient ratios on, but it is nevertheless a stellar compendium of recipes. I went straight to the back of the book to try all of the new recipes that Jeff compiled from the best of what the modern cocktail has to offer. last night, I spun up a Cuzco Fizz with muddled green grapes, Chilean Pisco Capel, lime juice, and St. Germaine elderflower liqueur that was very tasty and refreshing.

QUOTE (G&T @ Apr 19, 2010 -> 07:08 AM) I didn't know anyone actually sold gruits. It looks like a rare treat. There should be a bottled version of it as well since it's part of their Humidor Series. Don't you have a brother in the Tampa area you can hit up?

QUOTE (G&T @ Apr 17, 2010 -> 08:25 PM) Well I'm back in the game tonight after I found a new revenue stream, i.e. a job (at least for now). Anyway, I went in to get Saison Dupont, but I stumbled on Goose Island Night Stalker. Goose Island is making headway into upstate NY recently but I was very surprised to find this, and I'm a sucker for little pieces of home. At $9 a bomber, it was priced fairly. I've already reviewed Saison Dupont, but I haven't seen Night Stalker discussed here. Let me say, it's phenomenal. It is based on Bourbon County Stout, but dry hopped instead of barrel aged. The simcoe hops are noticeable and are the only hop I really care for. I find them less abrasive. They cut through the thick chocolatey malt that pervades this beer. This is a new twist on an impy. I had grown tired of the style, but this is something really nice. The bottle claims that it can be aged 5 years (although I've read that Goose Islands don't make it that long), but good luck saving it. That sounds great! And simcoes are currently my favorite late addition hop right now as well. Went to a beer festival last night marking the first anniversary of our awesome local new beer bar. Had some very nice beers but the real standout for me was Cigar City's Humidor Series Gruit. Amazing herb mix to complement the hops, the first nose and sip were literally like taking in the essence of a cedar humidor, and then the flavor quickly spreads into all sorts of wonderful botanicals to balance out a medium malt body. Great beer.

QUOTE (Disco72 @ Apr 16, 2010 -> 07:46 PM) This is so heavily dependent on if they have a sense of humor. Many professors I know don't... College professors are totally the funniest people on the planet. Shows what you know.

QUOTE (BigSqwert @ Apr 15, 2010 -> 02:23 PM) I know what I'm doing to plan for the upcoming apocalypse.

My parents are addicted to Chi Tung, and go there probably weekly when they're in Chicago and not snowbirding down here. But that's not the calibre of sushi this thread was angling for.

This is sort of going off on a tangent, but yeah, I'm totally conflicted with my RC upbringing. The family and friends that are the dearest people in my life remain ostensibly devout Catholics. But most of them question their beliefs on a regular basis and struggle to remain Catholic like a kid struggles to maintain a belief in Santa Claus despite all signs pointing to the fact that the kid has been duped for years.

QUOTE (3E8 @ Apr 14, 2010 -> 02:04 PM) Can't wait to see this one I will want to gun down every castmember of this film after I sit through it.

QUOTE (kapkomet @ Apr 14, 2010 -> 09:30 PM) Off subject, but then not at the same time, my friend turned to the dark side Easter weekend. He "converted" so the church will recognize his marriage. Blech... Anyway, we went to the Sat. night thing... wow, that was um... something else. I support my friend, but I could not be a Catholic. Aw, that's small potatoes. The church of Indulgences and 11th-hour Deathbed Soul-Saving Confessions certainly sounds like the right place for a ne'er-do-well like myself. Maybe they'll take me back If I ask nice.

QUOTE (bmags @ Apr 13, 2010 -> 02:05 AM) so the vatican II reforms aren't a part of that? Interesting. No, they are not. In fact, the entire modern view of ex cathedra papal infallibility and was only established with Vatican I in 1870. As a recovering Catholic (25 years guilt-free, but every day is a struggle. . . ), it's a real hoot to wade through all of the caveats involved with the notions of infallibility. . . papal Sacred Magisterium is infallible UNLESS it conflicts with or contradicts Sacred Scripture and Sacred Tradition . . . BUT a current pope can infallibly recant the supposedly infallible promulgations of a predecessor. . .etc., . . . It makes your head spin. And, quite honestly, it all reads like it was written by a bunch of geeky Trekies or rpg dungeonmasters trying desperately to logically assert and intellectually defend beliefs and viewpoints that are patently absurd and fanciful.
