QUOTE(Whitewashed in @ Apr 30, 2007 -> 04:15 PM) Does anyone have any opinions on Subaru Impreza's? Everyone raves about how great looking and fast they are, but they aren't as common compared to a Honda, Mistu, Toyota, etc. It already costs more money to repair foreign cars. I wouldn't want to buy one and get robbed to repair it just because no one knows how to work on it or because parts are even more expensive. They are nice cars but most people choose to opt with Honda's and 'yotas because they are cheaper and slightly more gas efficient. The upside of them is the AWD. You have your standard Imprezas and Outback wagons then WRX ones and finally your STi's. The WRX and STi's have turbochargers on em. As far as maintenance goes, you should be cool if you buy it new and it stays under warranty just like any other car.

QUOTE(StrangeSox @ Apr 25, 2007 -> 07:02 PM) I don't think an alarm system would have helped too much in this situation: http://www.cleveland.com/news/plaindealer/....xml&coll=2 "Opponents said it took Buford's - that the 15-year-old might be alive if a citizen had not been armed." Yeah, and the homeowner might be on the short end of the stick!

QUOTE(RockRaines @ Apr 27, 2007 -> 09:05 AM) Just about to give another update. After I left the GM of the dealership called me and told me that the numbers I wanted were totally not doable. The funny thing is he also told me that the numbers his own finance manager quoted me were not doable. He then tried to convince me that he wasnt making any profit, my trade in was crap (which it isnt at all) and that the payments were totally off base. One of them is lying, try and figure out who. Car buying is seriously the gayest thing. They could make it so much easier than it is. f*** that! take your business elsewhere! Car salesmen can be some shady dickheads. I worked at a Ford dealership and the GM was the gayest dude ever. After leaving that job, they inspired me to never purchase a vehicle from them or their chain EVER!

QUOTE(Texsox @ Apr 25, 2007 -> 07:12 AM) Easily accessible and secure. I have yet to hear a spot that was secure from the children and accessible enough to have the weapon ready to fire in under a minute. It depends on the neighborhood, but for most of the population, the odds are better that the kids will find the gun then someone will break into your home while you are there. It was an easy decision for me to put them away in a very secure location. I sleep better at night knowing my children, or their friends, would not accidentally discharge the weapon. You don't know your house well enough then. Have you thought about what policemen do with their weapons when they are at home and off duty? It's your choice if you want to own a gun or not, nobody is required to in Illinois (but some places actually do require citizens to be gun owners). QUOTE(BigSqwert @ Apr 25, 2007 -> 09:05 AM) Really? I don't think the average burglar has espionage training to fully disable an alarm system. In my case I have a wireless powered alarm system. The central hub is located in an interior room of my condo with no window access. The system has battery backup. The battery gets tested weekly by Brinks (remotely) to make sure it is still ok. I would be truly amazed if a burglar would be able to disable this type of alarm system. As a side note, we were provided 2 remote alarms (similar to car alarms that you put on your key ring). These remotes have panic buttons and when pressed will immediately notify the police of an intrusion. The alarm company won't even call to confirm if there is a problem...it goes straight to the police. The remote is kept on the nightstand next to my bed and is a lot quicker and safer than searching for a gun and keeping it away from children when not in use. You would be amazed. Ever see that show on Discovery To Catch a theif (or something like that)? QUOTE(NorthSideSox72 @ Apr 25, 2007 -> 09:21 AM) If we are talking about the fraction of a percent of burglars that are so sophisticated that they have a way to disable an alarm system, then... 1. They won't be breaking into just any place. 2. You won't be home when they do. So the only good your gun does in that scenario is giving the burglar one more prize. Wow, do you actually know the percentage of burglers that have the know how to disarm a system? If you do, let me know, I would love to know aswell!

QUOTE(RockRaines @ Apr 25, 2007 -> 12:02 PM) There may be some that are up to par, but in my personal experience (4 american cars) they have been crap. But as i stated, I meant American muscle cars from the years that he mentioned. What 4 American cars have you owned? The years that I mentioned are just about as solid as the come. Also 98-02 F-Body's were built in Canada.

QUOTE(Whitewashed in @ Apr 23, 2007 -> 07:37 PM) I'll add a question of my own. How do low profile tires drive in the snow on a FWD car? I am also looking for another car these days and like any other college student I am on a tight budget. I am looking at a Civic, Accord, and an Eclipse. Any other suggestions or comments on the cars I listed? What do you mean by "low profile tires?" You should always have snow tires suring the winter months. I assume you mean new vehilces of the ones you listed. Stay away from the Eclipse. Mather of fact stay away from Mitsu as a whole. Notorious for engine problems. Plus its a chick car. I am a big Honda advocate. Both the Civic and Accord are wonderful cars. If you are looking for something with something "sporty" the 2door Accords look very slick. My cousin has an 06 Accord coupe and has nothing but good things to say about it. You should be saf between those two. If you have any other questions on just about any other model, just post up.

QUOTE(RockRaines @ Apr 23, 2007 -> 03:15 PM) No offense, but im not looking for the horrendous build quality of an american made muscle car. As evident by my current car, i dont want to be running 9's on the track. Well if you consider all American made vehicles crap the you are simply a blind consumer.

QUOTE(BigSqwert @ Apr 23, 2007 -> 03:23 PM) Seems like an unnecessary risk when there are other options. And where do you all live where there are all these intruders breaking in all the time? I've lived in some shady areas over the years and have yet to have a problem. Again, an alarm will scare off an intruder if not deter them in the first place. You rang? Oh....I thought you meant BigSqwert. Sure there are other options and I would take advantage of eveyone of them. One can never be to safe. A responsible gun owner who has children will have their weapon in a secure spot that they know about, is easily accessible and maybe even in an area that only they will know. An alarm can be disable and is not the end all be all. As to living in crappy places and never getting broken into, consider yourself lucky. I sure hope you don't consider Lakeview or somethin shady.
