What's so bad about it? Relatively inactive, sure, but Vazquez is a nice fit for them and Gallo has been very comparable to Benintendi (slightly better than Beni overall, but worse lately) on a holistic (WAR) basis throughout his career

I would have rather the Sox signed Gallo to his deal than Benintendi to his.

Sox brass is just in love with Benintendi, that's all I've got. I'm not surprised the Sox acquired him, but what was surprising is that they didn't when Boston made him available.

Signing Grandal was 1000000000% a great move.  Sox need to make more moves like that, not less.

Sox fans can't have it both ways and complain that Sox don't sign FAs and  then complain when they have to pay them on the backend of their deal.

    ^^^^^^^^

The issue isn't Grandal's dead money, but rather that ownership is unwilling to spend around it.

As part of hard retool it could, but clearly that’s not the direction we’re going in after signing Benintendi.

They could still be going for a hard retool. Hahn and Kenny are just in love with Benintendi. They've been after him for years.

Not saying either are great players by any means, but we don’t have a 2B and it’s very questionable whether Grandal can catch any kind of significant amount anymore. Escobar and McCann would definitely fill rolls we likely aren’t going to spend $ on in free agency. If Hahn could get those 2 AND prospects we’ve reallocated bullpen $ to fill needs while also improving the future of the team.

Something like Liam and Luery for McCann, Escobar, Mauricio, and Butto (or pick your 2 favorite Mets prospects not named Baty, Alvarez and Parada) works out $ wise for both clubs and gives the Sox minor league depth we desperately need.

And I realize this may not line up with the front office is trying to do, just my opinion on what a pretty good move would be. I’m not a fan of clinging on to an older closer for a team that isn’t going to win a World Series. If Liam’s elbow issue gets worse there’s a possibility that the Sox paid a closer a bunch of $ to never even win a playoff series(still a strong possibility without injury). If you aren’t a legit WS contender then cash in on value while you can is my thought, but I could see why some wouldn’t want to

Sox could also take Carrasco for more prospects and turn around and trade Giolito

    I'm a Blade Tidwell fan so he's a guy I'd target.

If they traded Hendriks/Giolito for prospects, Garcia to balance salary and got back McCann/Carrasco/Escobar that is just moving around a similar amount of money and also reloading the minors a bit while still fielding a competitive team in 2023.

  5. So now that Catcher is on the list of massive holes in the lineup, what can the Sox do there?

Could Grandal for Perez still be an option if KC is only interested in getting out of the money, or would the Sox have to add now that it's known that Grandal is damaged goods?

people saying no in this thread are the same that will complain in gaame threads when roberts is out for a 10 day span every month and colas is batting .200 thaat the CWS have no depth

I'm not complaining about depth but they shouldn't block Colas. They should have a decent insurance option but Conforto straight up blocks him.

2 years of extreme surplus value of a cheap all-star level catcher for 1 year of Liam seems fair to you? I could (hopefully) be wrong, but that doesn’t seem right to me. Not like Kelly is much of a prospect anyway…

If Liam gets traded his 2024 option becomes guaranteed. So whoever gets Hendriks gets him at 2/29M

That’s an important distinction if you are basing it off of their 162 game average. I agree that’s the way to go, though. You mind posting the numbers for each in your original post?

Done. I calculated 162 game averages and 33 start averages for SP.

I'm actually going to change the formula to 175 IP for the starters.

Eloy didn't have to jump and hang from his arm on that play. He should have known better. Running to 1B is a damn requirement on the game. Do you have the same feelings towards Anderson and his hamstrings? Why isn't he on this list to vote for when he has a fair share amount of nagging injuries each and every year?

When Anderson was healthy he was good. Also Anderson hasn't had a major injury 2 seasons in a row.
