What possessed Rick Hahn to think that Nova in the AL was a good idea?

Unsurprising. Give Carlos a break today. He did ok staying out there as long as he did. Bullpen situation would've been worse if he had been pulled an inning or two earlier. I have a feeling a few starter ERAs are going to take a beating shortly because the bullpen situation is going to force Ricky to leave them out there for the full 100-115 pitches.

This could be a horrid month for the Sox record wise because they don't have an off day. They're entering the deal with an overworked bullpen and that is a recipe for disaster.

TA is a hacker. He's always going to be hot and cold. I don't think that you can teach a hitter like him to have Moncada's patience. To your larger point, I agree in general. Moncada is more "real" than TA. I just have a little PTSD with Moncada because he was awesome to start last year too, and then he got hurt a week into May and sucked until September upon his return. I mean, outs are outs. Are infield popups any better than Ks? Not really.

If they lose this one I have zero faith that they'll take game 2. The bullpen is already beat to hell.

Ok fine. You win. Can't argue with that.

Nothing, I was arguing about you saying that Frank sucked against the Cubs. He wasn't the same guy when they started playing the Cubs. This has nothing to do with TA/YM

He only played 74 games.

https://www.baseball-reference.com/players/t/thomafr04.shtml Frank's 91-97 were otherworldly. Afterward he was just a good player.

I get what you mean about small sample sizes, but the entire season is a small sample size at this point so that is my point. It is a small sample within a small sample.

2000 was Frank's last great year. Go look at his 1998 and 1999 and get back to me. He wasn't the same guy after 97. Injuries and his big mouth were culprits.

He also didn't play the Cubs in his prime. Bad example. Try again. Interleague didn't start until 1998. Frank's best years were 1991-97

If a guy can't hit the worst pitching staff in the majors, wouldn't you pause a bit? Fucking great. Now Herrera joining in the bullpen suckage.

I can't believe how Moncada and Anderson can't hit the O's pitching staff. Makes me a little concerned about the remainder of the season for both players. They both struggled in Baltimore, and now at home too. I was about to gloat about Moncada to my buddies, and now I'm going to hold off for another month.

Not always. He was typicaly good for 4-5 innings and 1-3 ER. He'd have games where he was outright unhittable for 5 innings, but Rodon has those too. Lots of walks, lots of pitches, an ERA around 4.00 and roughly 140 innings/160 K during a healthy-ish season for Harden

Figured. I still think they have some potential with Kopech/Cease/Lopez/Giolito but I'm starting to sour on Rodon. He struggles to get through 5 innings. He's becoming the LHP version of Rich Harden. I don't really think they can count on him anymore.
