Not a Typical Rebuild According to White Sox
Al Lopez's Ghost replied to Thomas_Ventura_Roberts's topic in Pale Hose Talk
QUOTE (fathom @ Jan 25, 2017 -> 05:56 PM) Just an FYI but Keith Law doesn't think Beer is the top prospect for his draft year Who's his guy? -
QUOTE (ptatc @ Jan 25, 2017 -> 05:58 PM) I would disagree a little. OF: Cabrera should be at least average, They should hope tilson will be pretty good, garcia yuck 3B above average with HR and defense SS: hopefully anderson is pretty good. 2B: Lawrie should be pretty good 1B: Abreu should be good C: who knows The lineup will not be will not be at the bottom of the league in scoring. They were 20th in OPS and runs scored last year. Should be about the same. In effect we're replacing Eaton with Tilson, or worse if Tilson's injury hampers his speed. We thought Lawrie would be pretty good last year. I certainly agree about Anderson and Frazier although we now hear he has an injury to his left hand, but overall it's tough to be optimistic

QUOTE (southsider2k5 @ Jan 25, 2017 -> 12:58 PM) The obsession with Tyler Saladino is reaching unhealthy proportions. Going off of your usage of the word "mediocre" that is exactly what Tyler Saladino would be as a stater, at best. That is also assuming he can even stay healthy for 600 PAs. It truly is back up quarterback syndrome going on here. Amen. More at bats would just reveal his flaws. He's gonna be 28 in July... not a lot of untapped potential.

QUOTE (Y2JImmy0 @ Jan 25, 2017 -> 11:37 AM) Lets say Q doesn't move. Your rotation is Q/Rodon/Shields/Gonzalez/Holland. That's a bad rotation. Bullpen is good: Robertson, Jones, Jennings, Putnam, Petricka, etc. Lineup bad: 1B: Abreu 2B: Lawrie/Saladino 3B: Frazier SS: Anderson: DH:Garcia/Davidson OF: Tilson, Melky, Garcia, Liriano They'll make subtractions during season: Melky, Frazier, Q, Robertson, Gonzalez, Holland. This is a really bad baseball team I agree with your conclusion, but calling this bullpen good is a stretch. Unless Robertson rebounds and all others stay healthy, it's somewhere between ok and awful.

Outfield is somewhere between substandard and brutal Catching mediocre, second base meh Four and five spots in the rotation would have to improve to be called question marks. That's before inevitable injuries. With or without Q, this is a train wreck. You could even argue that injuries could result in more talented players being called up.

More Minoso numbers: Most times on base 1951-1960 Richie Ashburn 2771 Minoso. 2572 Mantle. 2550

Eaton and Frazier Verbal Battles
Al Lopez's Ghost replied to Al Lopez's Ghost's topic in Pale Hose Talk
I thought the team was easily distracted last year. In addition to Drakegate and Sale's antics, they also raised a ruckus over clubhouse attendants tips being administered by management in Oakland or Seattle. I think Robin was just along for the ride. -
2016-17 free agency thread (NON WHITE SOX RELATED)
Al Lopez's Ghost replied to southsider2k5's topic in The Diamond Club
Somebody found a tweet from last October where Anderson called some beer throwing Cub fans "f***ing idiots". -
Levine wrote tonight that their verbal disagreements got so bad last year that Eaton moved his locker. Frustratingly Levine provided no more details.

QUOTE (flavum @ Jan 21, 2017 -> 11:43 AM) http://www.baseball-reference.com/players/...p&year=1959 They didn't keep pitch counts back then, but I'm sure he was pushing 200 for a game that ended in a tie. Thanks He faced 61 batters. Makes me want to change my name here.

QUOTE (flavum @ Jan 21, 2017 -> 10:04 AM) Just for fun, I looked this up... He pitched 16 (yes, 16!) innings on August 6th. Of course five days later, he gives up 5 runs in 4 innings. Then his next start, it looks like he left injured in the 3rd inning, then missed a few starts after that. Now THAT'S abuse. How did you find it, and does it say how many pitches he threw?

QUOTE (flavum @ Jan 19, 2017 -> 04:48 PM) Minoso is one of the best players not in the Hall. It's a shame he's not in. Blocked by segregation, and the second best AL player from 1951-1961. Too bad he didn't get in while alive. He'll get in someday, but too late, like Santo. In the American League in the 50's, Mantle led in WAR. Minnie was second.

Not a Typical Rebuild According to White Sox

QUOTE (sin city sox fan @ Jan 19, 2017 -> 01:32 PM) The 2013 team also had to deal with Robin Ventura as manager. That alone was good for 15-20 losses per season. Ventura was awful, but no manager is 15-20 games bad. -
Love Paulie. He's got no chance for HOF.
-
Good luck today, Rock. Met him at Picnic in the Park way back when, and he couldn't have been nicer. He made a homer saving catch in that game.
-
Vlad scared me to death in the 2005 ALCS, but our starters handled him. I think he's worthy, but probably not yet.
-
QUOTE (southsider2k5 @ Jan 17, 2017 -> 02:54 PM) I wouldn't call it hate. I would call it recognizing something that could hold him back from realizing his potential. Yours is a very reasonable, nuanced position. I hope he can be Jack McDowell 2.0

It's a talking Hawk Harrelson alarm clock. First 20,000 adults. Mine would have to be unbreakeable.

QUOTE (BlackSox13 @ Jan 16, 2017 -> 11:43 AM) Can't believe I'm doing this but in all fairness to Levine, this is how the media works. My biggest complaint about Levine is when he writes about rumors after they had been written about elsewhere. That's not the case this time. While he didn't drop any names he at least confirmed teams had upped their offers which goes with the Hahn/Pirates rumor reported last week by Rumbunter. You say he writes about rumors after they had been written about elsewhere, but here he confirmed a rumor reported last week...but you say that's not what he's doing here? I'm confused.
