That would presume that Quintana and Robertson were already moved in trades. In fact, I can imagine the White Sox wanting to make room for all three of them by mid-season. One would need to keep fingers crossed that Shields and Holland had bounce back seasons like Gonzalez did last year.

No White Sox spokesperson of any time is going to commit to a 63 win season, but the comments Hostetler made are those of a team set up to lose. He used the words "compete in games", not "win games".

 

Expect this rebuild to be real, but don't expect a lot of rebuild talk from anyone not named Rick Hahn.

Officials with clubs have to be careful when it comes to admitting tanking. It implies an uneven playing field, which baseball doesn't like.

2019. I think they make him a starter. No reason not to try now.

If they want to "retool" not rebuild then F them. But yea, this is a PR answer based on the state of the franchise.

 

We will know by the end of the off season how competitive we will be next season. Still expect a couple more vets to be traded, in which case would make it hard for us not to lose.

Think of it this way: Every game I watch (which is a lot), I want them to win and will pull for them to win, knowing full well that they won't win a lot of them and in the long term that's the right thing to do for the betterment of the franchise.

I mean there was serious talk of him being called up at the end of last year. Unless the bullpen is firing on all cylinders, I think he'll be up as soon as we get the extra year of control on him.

No way. On top of those two, they'd have to trade Lawrie, Jones, Cabrera, Abreu, Rodon, and Gonzalez, and they'd still probably lose only 110 games.

With them taking a step back from competing, it is entirely plausible that they start him in A ball this year as a starter and see if they can make it work. He would move quickly as a RP, but with really no need for him at the ML level this season, they could really take their time and give him a shot. It is entirely possible that after a year they decide it just isn't going to work, but it will give him a chance to build some endurance as well as secondary pitches that could make him into a RP in the mold of Andrew Miller.

That will probably come out in spring training, perhaps at Sox Fest at the earliest.
