The NEW Apolitical Dept. of Justice: Compliments of the Nat'l. Review: Democrats complained endlessly about the supposed “politicization” of the Bush Justice Department. When asked about this at his confirmation hearing, Eric Holder piously pledged that his Justice Department would “serve justice” and “not the fleeting interests of any political party.” America, he intoned, was “in dire need of a less political and more independent Justice Department.” But an e-mail and flyer recently circulated to Justice Department employees indicate Attorney General Holder has an interesting definition of what it means to be “less political.” The flyer invites all employees to attend a speech in the main Justice building on Pennsylvania Avenue. In fact, it notes, all “upervisors are encouraged to grant official time to employees to attend this event.” And what pillar of the legal profession will be lecturing Justice employees to help them “serve justice” in a “less political” way? Why, none other than Donna Brazile, whose own website biography describes her as a “[v]eteran Democratic political strategist” and a Vice Chairman at the Democratic National Committee.” Brazile is marketed by more than one speaker’s bureau at a cost ranging from $10,000 to $20,000. The flyer doesn't say how many taxpayer dollars are going to pay a Democratic political consultant to speak to career employees at the Justice Department (sounds like a good FOIA request). Good thing the Department I can smell the change all the way from Chicago.

The Star Tribune reports: President Obama used the flooding in the Red River Valley to insist that society needs to take global warming seriously. In a White House interview with a handful of reporters, including Janell Cole of the Forum of Fargo, the president said the current flooding cannot necessarily be blamed on global warming, but he said it should be a signal to act. "If you look at the flooding that's going on right now in North Dakota and you say to yourself, 'If you see an increase of 2 degrees, what does that do, in terms of the situation there?'" the president told the reporters. "That indicates the degree to which we have to take this seriously." Obama began by saying that "the science around climate change is real; it is potentially devastating." As Wikipedia explains: The Red River in Manitoba and the U.S. States of Minnesota and North Dakota has flooded repeatedly through the centuries, endangering lives and property. The river is highly prone to flooding because of its northward flow. As spring approaches, the snow is melted from south to north alongside the riverflow. There is also the possibility that the surplus water can hit unmelted ice on the river and back up. The flatness of the terrain and small slope of the river is a significant factor. Everything is global warming's fault. What a disgrace.

According the Americans for Tax Reform: Senator Specter has confirmed to ATR that he will vote against both cloture and passage on the Employee Free Choice Act (also known as “card check” or the employee NO choice act). His vote is critical and this a major victory for freedom, as well as a stunning defeat for the other side.

Complements of National Review: Senator Dodd's Nine Lives Are about Up [Victor Davis Hanson] Let us count them . . . 1. He claimed that he had not the slightest involvement in the AIG bonus exemption that he in fact helped insert. 2 He got more AIG money than anyone in the Congress — more even than Barack Obama, who came in second. 3. He got a sweetheart deal on an Irish "cottage" from a crooked stock-trader. 4. He got two preferential discount mortgage interest deals from the now-bankrupt Countrywide. 5. He was one of the Fannie Mae-enabling overseers at a time it was going broke and giving senators like Dodd himself campaign cash — he topped out near $134,000 higher than anyone else. 6. He got a sweetheart profit deal from a condo joint-buy with crook Edward Downe, Jr. 7. He intervened with the Clinton administration to get the felon Downe pardoned. 8. He misrepresented the value of his Irish cottage that he obtained via the agency of the dubious Mr. Kessinger. 9. He is the nation's premier hypocrite as he lambastes Wall Street crooks and insiders from his collapsing soapbox. Well, those are the proverbial nine lives — so, Senator Dodd, time to go: "You have sat too long for any good you have been doing. Depart, I say, and lets us have done with you. In the name of God, go!"

Diane Sawyer: "You know, I wanted to sit on a jury once and I was taken off the jury. And the judge said to me, 'Can, you know, can you tell the truth and be fair?' And I said, 'That's what journalists do.' And everybody in the courtroom laughed. It was the most hurtful moment I think I've ever had." http://newsbusters.org/node/14050

QUOTE (Athomeboy_2000 @ Mar 20, 2009 -> 08:38 AM) Kinda like BUsh invading a country with no international, NATO, or UN support. I tend to think buying a DVD and not knowing that DVDs have "regions codes" is far from "the biggest slap in the face". How many Americans... and political figures know DVDs have region codes? I bet 90% have no clue. But being the most tech savvy White House,(just ask them they'll tell you), you would think they might have a clue about something like this. But maybe the last minute gift buying at Best Buy had something to do with it.

How did Dodd get the bonus provision put into the bill when he was not a conferee on the bill? Was it Reid, Inouye, or Baucus? They were the Senate reps to the conference.

QUOTE (Balta1701 @ Mar 18, 2009 -> 10:27 AM) A question for anyone who has an answer...yesterday's rally was promoted in part by a significant surge in new housing starts. My question is...why was there a surge in housing starts? There's still a fairly large glut of housing on the market, prices are still falling significantly, credit is still tight. It seems like a surge in housing starts now is way ahead of the game even given that it takes a while to construct housing. We're sitting on an 11 month or so supply of housing at the last numbers I found, where a 6 month supply is typically normal. The only reason I can figure for why there would be a surge in housing starts is if there was anomalously good weather throughout much of the country. Can anyone explain to me how else that makes sense? It seems like another pulse of construction will just wind up increasing the over-supply unless there's a huge surge in buying. You are correct. February had above normal temps, thus the increase in starts. This is the major problem in the economy. Until inventory declines fairly substantially, the problems will fester.

Barack Obama has selected a leftist, David Hamilton, to be his first nominee for the federal bench. Hamilton is Obama's nominee for a spot on the Seventh CIrcuit Court of Appeals. Appropriately enough, Hamilton reportedly was once a former fund-raiser for the radical activist outfit ACORN, a key Obama ally. He is also a former leader of the Indiana chapter of the ACLU. Hamilton's record as a federal district judge confirms his ultra-liberalism. Recently, he invalidated a law requiring the registration of sex offenders. He also prevented enforcement of an Indiana law that required information and a waiting period before an abortion. The Seventh Circuit (the court to which Hamilton now has been nominated) found that the law in question was materially identical to a law upheld by the U.S. Supreme Court in the Casey decision. It noted that no judge in the land, other than Hamilton, has found such a law invalid since Casey was decided. Apparently, Hamilton did not consider himself bound by decisions of the Supreme Court with which he strongly disagreed. In addition, Ed Whelan points out that Hamilton somehow managed to invoke the doctrine of substantive due process to suppress evidence of a criminal defendant's possession of cocaine. The Seventh Circuit unanimously reversed that ruling. Not to worry, though, the New York Times calls Hamilton a "moderate

QUOTE (Balta1701 @ Mar 16, 2009 -> 04:10 PM) WaPo. The House Democrats are currently holding up an ethics investigation of Congressman Murtha, I believe using a rule-weakening change instituted by the Republicans to protect Tom Delay. This of course, needs to stop. I encourage right wing ranting and raving at this point. Didn't Peolsi say she was going to run the most honest House ever. MORE CHANGE WE CAN BELIEVE IN!!!
