  1. What is considered waterboarding?.......Tying someone down and pouring water them......or the actual pouring of water on the person? Because I keep hearing the number 183. These guys were not tied to a board 183 times.
  2. QUOTE (BigSqwert @ Apr 24, 2009 -> 08:45 AM) Nice to read a sane conservative's point of view on this whole torture issue. Who is the sane conservative? Sullivan? Surely you jest?
  3. http://www.politico.com/news/stories/0409/21613.html Transparency and change part 10. Nothing to see here...move along..
  4. QUOTE (Athomeboy_2000 @ Apr 22, 2009 -> 08:40 PM) Fox News anchor Shepard Smith with a moment of non-partisan sanity: If America Tortures, "I Want Off The Train!" Until someone hits us again. Then his ass will be asking Wuh happened? and who is to blame?
  5. QUOTE (Athomeboy_2000 @ Apr 22, 2009 -> 11:08 AM) Then these "enemy combatants" should be tried in an international court, not US. They should have a trial and execution on the place they stand when they are captured.
  6. QUOTE (BigSqwert @ Apr 22, 2009 -> 11:04 AM) How would you all feel if one day America became a Muslim majority nation and Christians were being detained and tortured because it was feared they might be terrorists? Talking bout a revolution.....well you know.....
  7. QUOTE (Athomeboy_2000 @ Apr 22, 2009 -> 10:50 AM) Here's what kinda pisses me off about the whole thing. Cheney keeps saying "but look what info it got us". So, basically, he is saying the ends justify the means, which is NOT what we stand for as a country. We are against torture... no matter what the results. So, for Chaney to say what he is saying, says he doesnt give a rats ass about the constitution, the Geneva conventions, or the rights of humans. As long as we get what we want, the rules be damned. Yeah as long as he saves lives who cares? The 10000 people that work in the library tower in L.A....f*** them. You want to bomb us come on we abide by the Geneva Conventions.
  8. We can't even get Metra to run efficient train service (Heritage Corridor). 2 trains/dialy in and out is not good service. The problem is the big freight haulers, BNI CSX etc., own the right of ways. Until the gov't steps in and mandates some change on their part there will be no change in the service that is provided.
  9. QUOTE (Balta1701 @ Apr 21, 2009 -> 10:20 PM) So I take it you would support the appointment of a special prosecutor to conduct an investigation to determine whether or not enough evidence exists for charges to be filed? So it was probably by chance that the details of the "torture" interrogations were released by the administration, but the "supposed" attacks that the interrogations averted, were redacted.
  10. QUOTE (Balta1701 @ Apr 18, 2009 -> 04:02 PM) Thankfully, given that the price of oil has dropped by 66%, a 50% rise in energy costs would still be less than we were paying last year. Well there you go then. It's less than last year so be thankful. Kind of like my old boss when he used to tell people be "glad you have a job." What's next gov't limitations on how many breaths you can take per hour. Bretahew too much and your polluting the fragile earth. Gimme a break. Biggest scam in world history.
  11. QUOTE (kyyle23 @ Apr 19, 2009 -> 12:54 PM) http://newsblogs.chicagotribune.com/clout_...takes-fall.html Who needs a background check? You work as a busboy at Ruth Criss'? Thats good enough for me and this 58,000 job! Sound slike he has the same team vetting potential employees as Obama.
  12. QUOTE (southsider2k5 @ Apr 17, 2009 -> 01:31 PM) This explains a lot... http://gawker.com/5216313/fox+bashing-cnn-...or-a-job-at-fox This reminds me of Jeneane Garafolo and her hatred of FOX News. She hates Fox so much that she accepted a role on 24. What a money horror
  13. So the Messiah gives a speech at Georgetown, references the Sermon on The Mount, but asks school officials to cover up the IHS, referencing Jesus Christ, that was behind him....WTF?....
  14. QUOTE (BigSqwert @ Apr 16, 2009 -> 01:42 PM) Cumulatively across the country? No. I was hearing we'd get 250K in Chicago alone. I was responding to your 10's of thousands in several cities.
  15. QUOTE (BigSqwert @ Apr 16, 2009 -> 08:31 AM) Funny that these protests of a few hundred received more MSM coverage than the anti-war protests in 2003 that had tens of thousands in several cities. http://somd.com/photos/iraq/Protest/index.shtml http://www.foxnews.com/story/0,2933,81883,00.html So the reported 250,000 protesting yesterday is not a lot, then?
  16. QUOTE (mr_genius @ Apr 15, 2009 -> 08:31 PM) well, so my mom calls. is watching the "Rachel Maddow Show" or whatever it's called (mom is total liberal). and she is confused about the running joke about "tea bagging" and wants to know what they're talking about. of course i said i had no idea. this madness needs to end. Has anyone heard the term tea-bagging on ABC NBC CBS or FOX? Only CNN and MSDNC. Why is that? OLbermann Maddow Shuster and Anderson Cooper have all referenced the term on their respective shows. Pretty childish, IMO.
  17. QUOTE (Balta1701 @ Apr 16, 2009 -> 11:33 AM) Remember this discussion we had a couple weeks ago? The one where CK and I actually agreed on something? Here's the data to prove that when we agree, we might actually be right on things.
  18. QUOTE (Balta1701 @ Apr 14, 2009 -> 05:48 PM) Fascinating. As part of the transition to becoming a "Bank holding company" so that they could receive the TARP funds, Goldman Sachs had to change the schedule it operates on. Previously, their quarters would start on December 1, now they had to start on Jan 1. So...the last quarter they reported last year was September - November, and they just reported those solid numbers for January through March. An erudite reader might wonder...what happened to December. Turns out...they took a ton of losses and accounted for them in December. And it also seems that they received a crapload of government money from the AIG bailout in December. That's one way to make your books look better. Exactly. And people wonder why I say the mkt is manipulated? Let's run the stock up from $115 to $130 in two days, issue a secondary at $123 and then right back down to $115 yesterday. GS projects to $109 by Friday. Hopefully, when GS files its 10-Q, they will include some data on the fourth quarterof 2008, although, even then, it will probably be too hard to discern.
  19. QUOTE (Athomeboy_2000 @ Apr 13, 2009 -> 03:19 PM) and of course RedState.com always has 100% reliable and unbiased reporting? If you track the links, RedState links to TheMinorityReportBlog (reliability of this site?), which gets its info from Floppingaces.net (a site I've never heard from) who gets it's info from an unnamed source. Great reliable reporting if you ask me. And I get ripped for referencing the HuffingtonPost. At least they do some actual journalism instead of linking through different blogs. So your proof that this didn't happen is what exactly? You are calling the Sgt. a liar? Whare is the MSM? They never lie about this kind of thing, right? http://www.nytimes.com/2004/07/04/weekinre...;partner=GOOGLE http://www.nytimes.com/2004/07/11/weekinre...y%22&st=cse
  20. http://www.redstate.com/jeff_emanuel/2009/...ops-100-staged/ Hmmmm. Seems to me the media would be all over W if/when he did this. But, this time its different.....
  21. QUOTE (kyyle23 @ Apr 13, 2009 -> 09:40 AM) Politics aside, Im really curious how this is going to play out. These pirates already have 200+ hostages at this moment, if they start killing these people, countries around the world are going to get pissed at the US and French and blame them for instigating a reaction. To me, this was just waiting to happen as soon as they became bold enough to take a US ship Then those countries should get better armed forces to respond in kind. No sympathy here.
  22. Congrats to the Prez for acting. But why only after being asked twice by the DOD? And then only if the life of the Captain was at risk? Wasn't the Captain's life at risk the minute he was forced onto the enclosed raft? The important thing is the Prez acted and we were sucessful in rescuing this Captain. Maybe, just maybe we put some doubt into the heads of these knuckleheads........but,.....I doubt it...
  23. QUOTE (southsider2k5 @ Apr 11, 2009 -> 07:30 PM) The worst part is that tax collections nationwide are crashing even faster than what was projected. The deficit this year is going to be so scary. Then comes the massive tax increases that we will need to "pay" for all of this. Just wait. So what you are saying is that all of the budgets proposed by these brain trusts will underestimate tax revenue this year? Shocking. Just raise taxes some more to make up the difference......Oh wait we just did that....well raise them again....Didn't Urkel just say last week that you have to pick on a group small enough not to hurt you politically? . Wait until the GDP forecasts for the Federal Budget are blown out of the water. But we will still here, "Look how many jobs we saved" even though there is no way to quantify this assinine idea.
  24. QUOTE (lostfan @ Apr 10, 2009 -> 05:28 PM) I think the thing with O'Reilly is that his reputation really precedes him. He's pretty loud and opinionated and he's definitely conservative, but he's not really that bad at all. I'd take him over someone like Hannity 10 times out of 10. Totally agree. I am pretty conservative and a pretty staunch Republican, but Hannity makes my skin crawl most of the time.
  25. QUOTE (Athomeboy_2000 @ Apr 10, 2009 -> 04:19 PM) Actually, Biden said in ONE meeting, he told Bush "no one is following you" in response to Bush saying he's a leader. It was one time, and could have happened at a number of meetings, he never said he was "alone" with Bush like Rove said he did, and the odds are Rove wasnt present at all of the meetings... even though he likes to think he was really the president. But I do believe Rove said there was always someone in the room taking notes on the said "meeting(s)".
