QUOTE (Jake @ Mar 13, 2014 -> 01:32 PM) Young graded out very well on PFF, especially considering he didn't quite get full-time reps. They didn't like him in 2012 when he was playing less than half time, and they loved him in 2011 where he was one of the best-rated DE in the league despite limited reps. Of more interest... Stop % (how many tackles made for no gain or loss/run plays) among DEs: 1. Houston 2. Young In the whole league or among FAs? -

From I've gathered the Bears should still have around 8 mil in cap space. (I included the $ needed for the draft). Need a DT, CB, and S Gimme Melton, Haha, and Roberson. -

Bears freed up 9.8m from Pep, they turned that into 2 starting DEs, a potential starting LB, and a potential starting DT. Houston, Young, Williams, and Ratliff add up to a combined 9.4m. -

From rotoworld (obviously before he signed with the bears) "Disruption is production" I like that. -

QUOTE (PlaySumFnJurny @ Mar 13, 2014 -> 11:33 AM) With Ratliff resigned, if we keep Melton and can add another decent warm body for depth at DT, we can then afford to take the best defensive player available, which could be a DB and maybe one of the top two safeties. Ya, I'd be fine with that if the Bears think Ratliff/Paea is solid at NT. Phil said he likes the depth of the CB position in the draft, so if they like Rat/Paea, I could see them going Dix/Pryor in the first then Roberson/Baptiste/McGill in the 2nd. I like the direction they're heading. -

Still a good deal of money to sign Melton. Give me Melton and then draft Jernigan in the first. That should be REALLY solid against the run. -

Hixon signed a 1 year deal.... Don't count out Chris Williams as the returner. I know the great success he had was on the huge fields of the CFL but dude is hella quick. -

Retweeted by Michael C. Wright Tom Pelissero @TomPelissero 2m Willie Young agreed to a 3-year, $9M deal with #Bears that included a $2M signing bonus and $3.95M total guaranteed. Not the great pass rusher I wanted but he's for sure a starting caliber player and an upgrade to Woottom/SMC. Bring back Melton and maybe another situational pass rusher and the DL could be lookin pretty good. Jake, how did he grade out on PFF? -

Brad Biggs @BradBiggs 4m Following up on @josinaanderson report earlier, source said #Panthers WR Domenik Hixon expected to sign with #Bears tomorrow. Brad Biggs @BradBiggs 3m Hixon signing could actually happen today. Stay tuned. Hixon had a few good years stepping up when Nicks/Cruz went down in NY. I think the signing would spell the end of Earl Bennett here in Chicago....Or at the very least Weems. Have a feeling it'll be Earl though, he wasn't utilized that much and I expect Wilson to make a push here so getting that 2.4M by cutting EB just makes sense. -

QUOTE (Jake @ Mar 12, 2014 -> 06:48 PM) A DL that includes: Houston, Allen, Melton, Collins, Ratliff and Paea will be pretty damn good unless there is absolutely no depth past that What'd PFF have to say about Jason Babin? Any "under the radar" guys that graded out well that are still available? Bears have a lot of fringe rotation DEs on their roster right now, I'm hoping Joe Kim can help those guys out and 1 emerges. -

One thing that I think is worth mentioning about Houston.....Oaklands O was god awful so I can imagine teams were running an awful lot against them (his 69 tackles kinda back that up). Here in Chicago he'll be able to pin his ears back more to rush the passer. Wouldn't surprise me if his sack number (which isn't everything) goes up by 3 or 4 here in Chicago. Also, what are your guys thoughts on Jason Babin if we're talking about older guys. Will probably come rather cheap. -

Adam Schefter @AdamSchefter 52s While Denver focuses on DeMarcus Ware…Vikings free-agent DE Jared Allen is talking with the Bears and Seattle Seahawks, per league source. I'm intrigued. Though competing with Seattle gives me doubts. -

QUOTE (Jake @ Mar 11, 2014 -> 04:25 PM) Mundy's +0.2 rating on PFF would have made him our best defensive player last year Interesting, what'd they have to say about Jennings/Briggs? -

Perhaps worth noting that he was a college teammate of Meltons. I know that's not the reason they signed him, but it could help in trying to retain Henry. -

QUOTE (bmags @ Mar 11, 2014 -> 01:26 PM) I wonder if Cornelius Washington has progressed at all. Certainly would be nice if he has. He's got all the physical attributes. Hopefully the Bears hiring Joe Kim, which wasn't even mentioned here, helps some of these guys. -

QUOTE (bmags @ Mar 11, 2014 -> 12:56 PM) Yeah, from Michael C Wright looks like we will have big interest in Melton, whom is only getting feelers from the cap screwed Cowboys. I'd feel a lot better about Draft Pick - Ratliff - Melton - Houston... But the main issue is that is still a 1-deep Dline. Wootton, or a player on his level financially, might still be a possibility, Bass showed flashes, Trevor Scott keeps finding a job, Washington hopefully surprises, then there's Austen Lane who I, for whatever, have some hope for.....Then you have Paea, Collins, and perhaps a late round run stuffer at DT. It's far from Seahawks deep, but when you're QB isn't making what Russell Wilson is making, it's almost impossible to get that deep. -

QUOTE (bmags @ Mar 11, 2014 -> 12:38 PM) If we let go Peppers I'm guessing there would not be an amicable reunion. Ya, probably not, just hypothetically speaking here....I do like the the idea of adding Melton and going Ealy in the first though, esp. with Aaron Donald gaining steam and possibly not being there -

QUOTE (bmags @ Mar 11, 2014 -> 11:49 AM) We also seemed to get everyone we targeted last year (and all these mid-level vets were getting next to no money). I don't want to pay big money for the 4th best FA DE. I kinda like Houston, he doesn't add much to the pass rush, but he still adds an element this team could really use, and that's a guy that can stuff the run. Gotta get a solid pass rusher on the other side of the line and on the interior. Ideally that would mean something like Melton and Ealy or maybe they bring in a vet like Allen or even re-sign Peppers and paid them with Aaron Donald. -

QUOTE (bmags @ Mar 10, 2014 -> 08:38 PM) Thoughts on a Revis Flyer? How much you think he'll get now a days? If the Bears strike out on all the top tier DEs I'd rather sign him than a top tier safety. EDIT- man he's still only 28??? Feel like he was in his 30's. -

QUOTE (QuickJones81 @ Mar 10, 2014 -> 07:08 PM) Hearing they're chasing Lamarr Houston now. I wonder why they aren't seemingly in pursuit of Michael Johnson. They're linked to him as well. http://www.nfl.com/news/story/0ap200000033...ign=Twitter_atl Article mentions Vikings, but that was before the Griffen re-signing. I expect Tampa to get one of these guys. Hope Bears get the other. -

QUOTE (Chisoxfn @ Mar 10, 2014 -> 02:56 PM) Sounds like the Bears people should have shut their mouths. I hope this stuff was coming from Bennett's camp and not the Bears. I can see why Bennett would have done it as I don't blame him for wanting to stay in Seattle (and this probably helped get Seattle serious enough). I'd have taken him at that contract. Very fair deal. Rumors of the Bears signing him came from NFL executives. ProFootballTalk @ProFootballTalk 2m Everson Griffen, with one career start, gets $8.5M/year with Vikings. Michael Bennett takes $7.125M/year to stay in Seattle. -

QUOTE (Boogua @ Mar 10, 2014 -> 02:32 PM) I thought Bostic and Shea were competing for the SAM. DJ is a MIKE I believe, so as of now I think he'd be a starter. Trestman said Bostic and Shea would get time at Mike as well. Not sure if that changes with Williams here. QUOTE (Athomeboy_2000 @ Mar 10, 2014 -> 02:39 PM) @ProFootballTalk DE Michael Bennett strikes deal with Seahawks. Four years. Terms coming. =(
