  1. QUOTE(Brian @ Feb 28, 2005 -> 08:54 AM) Out of all the critics, reporters, and audience members throughout the country, you are the only one that thinks so. which furthers my belief that I'm alot smarter than most critics, reporters, and audience members. and this idea of "suspending disbelief" is a terrible defense of clear plot flaws and inconsistency in the characters. Million Dollar Baby was the Britney Spears of movies this year.
  2. QUOTE(knightni @ Feb 28, 2005 -> 11:55 AM) I sounds amazing, yes. But I think pouring gas onto snow would make the snow melt and the gas would go right to the cement. Then, you wouldn't know where to light. It sounds like a Tim Taylor idea though. (Arr Arr Arr!) dammit...MY CAR!!!
  3. QUOTE(LosMediasBlancas @ Feb 28, 2005 -> 08:36 AM) yes, MDB was mine. that's a shame.read through this thread again... that movie's got serious consistency and logistical errors.
  4. QUOTE(southsider2k5 @ Feb 28, 2005 -> 08:32 AM) Remember all of the times you bragged about Texas weather? Paybacks are a b**** YOU"RE my b****, mike I've got miss pa to steam up the windows with and keep me warm Once we get hitched we're moving back
  5. Did anyone see all five best picture movies? I saw four of five...sideways being the missed film. Finding Neverland was my pick. anyone else?
  6. 3 hours ago, this can of beans was sooooooo good. The present doesn't share that same emotion.
  7. QUOTE(Purdue129 @ Feb 28, 2005 -> 12:10 AM) my friend in Philly is pissed b/c he's supposed to leave for Minny/St. Paul tomorrow (job transfer) tell him not to fret. My bro lives in St. Paul. You have to get used to the cold weather (which is balanced out by the enclosed walkways, heated sidewalks, etc.), but the music and culture scene is awesome...plus he'll be able to see the sox a couple times a year. My brother loves the twin cities.
  8. not a lib, just fulfilling my duties as Christian. often misconstrued, I know. I've found alot of information on software licensing and appraising donated equipment. I just have to file for status and grants. luckily my dad grant rights for a living, so maybe I can threaten to elope with miss PA in exchange for pro bono work I want to start out small, but I'd really like to start a project with the local school district of the inner city near me. I'd like to start an essay writing contest or maybe like a scholarship that the top winners get a computer or something. I'm focusing on Pentium IIIs and higher, but for beginner PC users, Pentium IIs will do. The main focus is that if they break them, they're not losing hundreds if not thousands of dollars. I think that's a crucial point that we are not focusing on as Americans. We're so "gimme gimme" and fail to teach restraint and use judgement when making purchases. I know I do it all the time. I just feel that Non-profits can take private money and "second hand" equipment and reuse it for individuals who in other circumstances have no access to PCs. I would also like to set up a PC training center in walking distance of the inner city high school. I think if kids had the options of spending time after school learning to do graphic design, web site design, network solutions, that would increase their desire to get jobs, go to college, and better educate themselves. (I also have an idea for a music training school as well....same idea as above.)
  9. QUOTE(Purdue129 @ Feb 28, 2005 -> 12:06 AM) haha is it just me or does anyone else think her and Jennifer Garner could pass as twins at times?? Jennifer Garner stole Brian Urlacher's shoulders....
  10. I want to be in Texas 6-12 inches tonight into tomorrow.
  11. QUOTE(Cali @ Feb 27, 2005 -> 11:51 PM) He should call up Sean Penn and tell him to shut the f*** up. Sean "who the hell cuts your hair Penn great actor big douche bag
  12. I'm sure the people following David Koresh thought they knew a tad about Christianity... kidding I didn't cry, but my girlfriend did (which she does at 80% of the movies she watches) and she said she felt manipulated into feeling sad. I am not afraid to cry at movies but I felt like MDB was trying to take me to a place artificially by creating this desperate place for Maggie no, that would be called consistency. That's what Maggie was. She trained by herself for 3 years before Eastwood's character began to train her, then he spent 2 years with her and takes her to the pinnacle of boxing...and then she just gives up? no that's character degredation they should stop reading this then...or a mod can split this off for spoiler reasons
  13. QUOTE(Purdue129 @ Feb 27, 2005 -> 11:35 PM) Hey sox4lifeinPA, You're are entirely entitled to your opinions, but you don't need to come on here and start talking down to people because they are younger than you or you think they are "stupid". I respect your opinions, and can we keep the "attacks" to a minimum. Who cares how old everyone is, let them enjoy what they want to enjoy. Me? personal attacks? where's the angel smilie? Besides, my comments on his age were accompanied by a caveat that I respected his opinion but thought life experience was important when assessing art, in this case a film. have your opinion and hold it, that's fine. I'm just explaining to you my indepth analysis of that movie. I think the movie needed to be decoded, because initially I thought it was great...but in hindsight, it was quite manipulative.

    Hey guys

QUOTE(Whitesox029 @ Feb 27, 2005 -> 10:52 PM) hahaha excellent, the critic. I'm sure there a bunch of WSI castoffs as well as WSI veterans. I'm approaching Church Elder status over there, but I know for a fact Jabroni posted here when he was banned for a month there. PA, I consider myself a right-leaning moderate. I'm extreme on some issues (abortion) but on most of them it's just an inclination to the right (SS, taxes, war). I also lean left on a few (environment), but not as many as the right. I would have voted for Bush if I had been old enough. WELCOME!
  15. try this instead.... Google mirror site
  16. QUOTE(Fotop @ Feb 27, 2005 -> 11:16 PM) Scorese was screwed. Again. They really must have it out for him. Haven't seen Million Dollar Baby, I've heard mixed things about it, but after winning best supporting actor, best actress, and best director you had to expect it to win Best Picture. Logically, it makes sense. The Scorese thing is the only thing that is bothering me about this year's Oscars, other than that it was a decent show and moved rather quickly. I guess my deal is that in a year that lacked a clear winner, I thought that they could have spread the awards out more (I know that's nearly impossible to do) but I think Swank (winslet or benning?) was just as good as the other ladies and MDB was not Eastwood's best directorship (definitely scorsese), likewise, MDB's best picture should have gone to (aviator or finding neverland) Foxx for Ray and Freeman for MDB worked for me, because there were both really solid in their roles. (Depp for actor or Alan Alda for supporting could have worked for me) I just didn't think there was a clear winner in any area, and that should have been reflected in the spread out awards between the films.
  17. QUOTE(qwerty @ Feb 27, 2005 -> 11:17 PM) How you guys think chris rock did tonight? I thought he was great, especially his openning monologue. I thought his self-deprecating humor was great. The sending Cuba Gooding Jr an $80 check after he saw boat trip and then CGJ sending him an $80 check after seeing Pootey-Tang was hilarious. I laughed outloud alot.
  18. QUOTE(Brian @ Feb 27, 2005 -> 11:12 PM) I guess if younger people use big words, that makes em more mature? no older people can be stupid too...besides, I said it was about comprehension, not bigs words. If you can't analyze a movie and see it for what it's worth, then what's the point? I thought the first 2/3rds were quite good, however, the movie took a turn for the clear point to invoke false emotions. The actions of the characters were inconsistent with the characters themselves.
  19. QUOTE(Brian @ Feb 27, 2005 -> 11:09 PM) I think you need to suspend disbelief. Anyone who looks this far into things needs to get a grip. This was a drama, not an action movie. It's not that I can't suspend disbelief, it's just that I refuse to do it 5-6 times in a supposed "best picture". And I'm sorry that you've got your floaties on...the deep end of the pool is just where I like to swim.
  20. QUOTE(ChiSoxyGirl @ Feb 27, 2005 -> 11:05 PM) Um, are you 25 yet? And just because he doesn't like the same movies as your doesn't mean he's jumping on a bandwagon. yes, thanks. I said that he doesn't have the life experience to get why that movie was junk.
  21. QUOTE(Purdue129 @ Feb 27, 2005 -> 11:05 PM) 1. You asked him if he's under 25, and going by your profile, you are UNDER 25 also 2. How about going back and editing your posts, just because YOU didn't think it was good, doesn't mean you should ruin it for everyone else. I'm 25 in mere months...semantics young padawin. and here comes the hippie onslaught.
  22. QUOTE(Yoda @ Feb 27, 2005 -> 10:49 PM) Does my age have anything to do with the conversation we’re having? yes. It's called comprehension. I don't think you're less of a person for being younger, I just don't think you most likely have the life experience to grasp the depth of that movie. You're 15 at best, and am glad that you go out and see movies, but don't just jump on the hollywood bandwagon of "critically acclaimed" films. I just felt it was offensive to anyone who fought for and clung to life despite being at perilous odds. The movie was inconsistent with its characters and very contrived at points. (the 62 year old man knocking out the 30 year old bruiser boxer guy) (waiting til the last second to tell Maggie what Meschulaza, (lol, sp??) means...not to mention the 1.5 years that goes by and No one happens to mention to Maggie what it means) (the unrealistic redneck family characature of orges) (the blue bear boxer winning the fight, despite the referees warning of DQ...not to mention the fact that hockey players get charged with assualt in cases of malicious hits on each other...The woman boxer would have gone to jail) synopsis: The movie was flawed, inconsistent, and left the audiance with nothing at the end. it was disappointing. edit: Sorry for the spoilers...I won't say I told you so when you get let down when you see it.
  23. QUOTE(Yoda @ Feb 27, 2005 -> 10:41 PM) As far as I know, this film was not intended to send any message to Reeve’s family. Let’s not forget that this film (Million Dollar Baby) is fictional. Plus, Swank’s character came into the world suffering and left it suffering as well. That’s all there is to it. ... and there goes Eastwood again. just curious, but are you under the age 25?
