QUOTE(qwerty @ Apr 25, 2005 -> 04:03 PM) I would hope he is exaggerating. I guess I was simply focused on trying to understand the movie. It's not poorly acted, however, it doesn't win awards for the acting...the concept is the winner.

QUOTE(qwerty @ Apr 25, 2005 -> 12:27 AM) How cheesy did it look? I mean if he made the majority of it on his computer i have my doubts... he also stars in it i believe. Shane explained why he ended up starring in it, I don't think the film suffers from it at all. Likewise with the way the film looks; you can tell it's independent to a certain degree, but there were some shots that I thought were quite good and probably better than some of the major studio directors. (fade away shot to outside the garage looking through garage door windows. ~10 minutes into the movie) I think it was a very innovative film topically and in its implementation. I never had the feeling like "oh, this reminds me of....." As for the mind numbing part, I'm gonna have to watch it a few more times to stop the "huh?" that keeps repeating in my head.

yeah, what he said. I was watching, or listening rather, to the director's comments. He did most of the movie on his PC. amazing.

has anyone else seen this movie? this won the sundance best drama award in '04. It wins in my book for biggest mind screw since "momento". Check it out.

didn't see another thread about this movie, but I give it four stars. It was hilarious and action packed. A+++
  7. QUOTE(winodj @ Apr 13, 2005 -> 10:16 AM) I have a big problem with artwork being investigated by federal authorities. It creates a chilling effect towards the exercise of free expression. And those who believe in democracy and American ideals that we hold dear ought to have a problem with it too. then you should have no problem with my paintings of Kevin Spacey and Nathan Lane with the caption "Global extermination: I hate f**s" I think it's probably not a bad idea for the feds to make a little stop at this "artists" place and encourage him to think before he paints.
  8. quorum... thanks spellchecker
  9. adjusts scope.... *cocks gun* someone put him out of his misery.
  10. I had a response written, but it's a beautiful day... I'm going outside to spend time in the sun. later losers
  11. QUOTE(LowerCaseRepublican @ Apr 18, 2005 -> 12:46 PM) Quoting Aliester Crowley -- People must feel very unsure of themselves if they have to insist angrily that their personal prejudices are the Immutable Decrees of the Almighty. I'm just angry that you're allowed to be a bigot...and I'm not. whatever.
  12. QUOTE(SleepyWhiteSox @ Apr 18, 2005 -> 12:40 PM) Sad, but I used to watch 'virtual memory,' I think it was called, on that channel before I had cable in my room...Some sort of teen game show about the Bible...Sometimes there was cute California girls my age at the time on there... Damn, that's way off topic. lol that's funny. I actually have much distaste for the station myself. Dr. E.V. Hill makes me laugh the most though.... say his name 3 times fast... I mean, come on...that's a stage name, right? Dr...E...v...il? There's one guy, joel, I think his name, he's out of the mega church from houston...I don't mind him that much.
  13. QUOTE(LowerCaseRepublican @ Apr 18, 2005 -> 10:37 AM) He's the O'Reilly of the left -- insane, moronic but at times makes a good point. This, however, is not one of them. And BigHurt, leftists aren't necessarily anti-religion since there are a lot of people in liberation theology and follow the religious teachings of Helder Camara or Oscar Romero that are leftist. When religion is used as a sticking point to justify bigotry (be it limiting civil rights to people -- since marriage is a civil institution and not a religious one since one can get a marriage in a courthouse or using religion to justify hatred of all things Muslim...etc. etc.) Turn on Trinity Broadcasting Network and you get a nice sense of what the radical fringe insane religious Christian Taliban wants to do. It is no secret that they want to: -remove the use and availability of contraceptives -determine arbitrary morals of what people should see/hear in TV/radio/CDs/internet -deny rights to homosexuals in a very selective enforcement of the laws in Leviticus I could go on but unfortunately for now, I need to get ready for a group meeting with our sociology professor regarding our final semester project. guy, you have no understanding of biblical truth and comprehension. Without the spirit you might as well go read a comic book...so please stop trying to speak as if you have a quarem on the subject.
  14. great responses from everyone. My brother played for a couple months and then got a girlfriend, so he quit cold turkey. He sent it to me with a month left on his subscription. I bought an extra month and enjoy it, but don't let it take over my life. Every once and a while I could see why some people could get sucked in... I mean... what loser spends countless hours staying up late and neglecting real relationships in exchange for interacting with "e-friends" in an artificial environment? right.

  17. I'm sick of reading all these depressing threads about this person hating that person. This thread is dedicated soley to positive news and comments. so detractors, PISS OFF Good News! I'm scheduling classes for my FINAL YEAR in college! I have an internship in the spring (still pending where I'll be working, though). My buddy and his wife found out that her cervical cancer was not life threatening. My brother is getting married next March. I got Andrew Bird's "Weather Systems" and it's awesome. pass it on. Good news and positive thoughts only. Let's brighten SLaP up a little please
  18. QUOTE(LowerCaseRepublican @ Mar 27, 2005 -> 07:56 PM) http://www.commondreams.org/headlines05/0327-01.htm Link originally from the LA Times... Tom DeLay a moral hypocrite (again) -- you don't say. I wonder what he would have done if Congress did half of what they're doing with Terri Schiavo if he was in the situation again. Sideshowapu, a gross generalizer (again) -- you don't say. um, I hate to break it to you, but like Bill Hicks, your sad, sad generalizations and over-statements are uber-transparent. there's a huge difference between someone in a coma on a respirator and a woman who is responsive to her surroundings and needs help eating.

  21. This year's winner of the "retarded useless invention award"... um...how about just not pressing "3-4-enter" on your remote.
  22. QUOTE(YASNY @ Mar 26, 2005 -> 01:50 AM) I was not advocating the death penalty. I didn't even use the words in my post. Nor was I advocating giving Terri a lethal injection. I just threw some thoughts out there for the sake of contemplation. Stop putting words in my mouth, please. I was just replying to your post out of conveience (I hate that word...sp?). I was speaking about the issue in general, and not specifically to your post. hope that clears it up, YAS..

I didn't see the "the beer snob" FlasoxxJim and I would be sitting next to each other arguing about the taste, bouquet, and coloration of every alcoholic drink in the place. (for PA see also: The asshole, The know-it-all, and The Wanna-Be Minister" Oh, and Stef would be "The Bar Fly" kidding
  25. QUOTE(YASNY @ Mar 25, 2005 -> 12:48 PM) If Terri was a dog, they'd give her an injection. If you starved a dog to death, you'd be arrected and prosecuted for cruelty to animals. They shoot horses, don't they? Humane. What the hell is humane? What is our criteria for being humane? Is Dr. Korvokian a criminal or an angel of mercy? I don't pretend to know the answers as to what is right and what is wrong in a situation like this. This is the definition of a "grey area". There is no pretense of black and white in this case. I also don't know what else to say. I have prayed, that if it's God's will, that she has a full recovery so that she can speak for herself. So that Terri can tell us what it was like to lay there and know, if she knew, that her life was the focus of the nation. So she could tell if Michael had her best interests at heart, or his own. I don't know and I cannot understand anyone who proclaims to know. When children are born with downs syndrome, we don't starve them to death right? We try our best to see life flourished. So everything changes when we're older? If this is true, then what is the problem with the death penalty? The state is saying that terri's wishes are to die rather than face a life "stuck" in a vegitative state. Why should it shock anyone that there are people who wish for inmates to die after committing and found guilty for henous crimes? It's society's wish that those people die rather than face a life "stuck" in a socio-pathic state. I'm not trying to argue either way. I would just say that Life is life. Death is death. Do we kill some because of "choice" or "punishment" or protect "innocence" and try to heal the socially impared?
