  1. QUOTE(Rex Kicka** @ Mar 12, 2008 -> 01:53 PM) I think racism is just as pervasive in the North as in the South. It just manifests itself differently in different places. I can guess how the rest of this thread ends up, but being one of the bi-coastal soxtalkers (grew up in Texas, live in PA)... The only difference that I've seen between the north and the south is the way race is handled socially. In Pennsylvania, you don't talk about race. You don't dare have conversations about it or raise questions. Segregation via neighborhoods, etc Northerners bottle up the racism, because people have little exposure to diversity. In Texas it's just there, in your face. You can't avoid it. Southerners either embrace the racial divide or completely smash it down. Those are generalizations, but that's the way I see it. The more you talk about it and the less it's "a big deal"...the less it's a big deal. From my time in Texas, I have always been the first person to reach out and befriend the "different" race in a public/work setting. Growing up in PA, that would not be the same case.
  2. QUOTE(Balta1701 @ Mar 15, 2008 -> 03:52 PM) Graham's clearly not at the level of the other folks you mention, or even of his son, but I can give you his appearance on some of the Nixon tapes talking about how the Jews control the media and how that control needs to be broken. fair enough. 1970 is a lot different than 2008. And he seemed to keep his hands clean ever since. I'm not trying to defend, necessarily, just trying to seperate the guilty from the REALLY guilty
  3. The flu knocked me out of the "race" for a while...
  4. I'm not trying to be argumentative, but I'd like to see quotes on this. I don't remembering reading anything about Billy in that regard. Robertson, Falwell, yes, but not Graham. maybe his son?
  5. QUOTE(Jimbo's Drinker @ Mar 10, 2008 -> 05:56 PM) boy this thread is not what i was looking for Welcome to Soxtalk, you must be new here
  6. QUOTE(The Critic @ Mar 10, 2008 -> 05:42 PM) I misread the thread title TWICE. First I thought it said "Beach Party", then when I read "Bach Party", I thought it was a Johann Sebastian Bach party. My next New Year's party is going to be a Bach Beach Party Theme.
  7. QUOTE(sox4lifeinPA @ Mar 10, 2008 -> 05:31 PM) s*** dude, I'm doing it. edit: just filled out and sent away my application to become a Democrat. Suck that Hillary.
  8. QUOTE(Rex Kicka** @ Mar 10, 2008 -> 05:27 PM) PA: You can change your registration through March 24 to vote in the Democratic Primary, if you'd like. s*** dude, I'm doing it.
  9. So what are the chances this guy can run for "Solicitor General?"
  10. QUOTE(FlaSoxxJim @ Mar 10, 2008 -> 04:43 PM) My excuse is that my wife is waffling in her own dieting commitment and now she's being a food temptress. I planned on having a plain chicken breast and some steamed veggies last night and instead I had a big honking chicken pot pie. If I don't lose at least 3 pounds this week it will be all her fault. see, depending on her running skills, you could turn weight training into cardio by chasing her with that stick
  11. QUOTE(Balance @ Mar 10, 2008 -> 04:26 PM) I'm a big proponent of electric cars. They're the best way to reduce our dependence on foreign oil in the short (and long) term using technology we already have. I wasn't even aware of the sedan you want; thanks for posting it. I'm still drooling over the Tesla Roadster which, as far as I know, has just been released in full production. It's not very practical for me (2-seater, $100k), but I'm really interested to see their follow-on car, which is supposed to be a sedan closer to $50k or $60k. Each should have over a 200-mile range per charge. And for the Teslas, they have a charger that takes less time for a full charge. I'm pretty excited about what this technology will bring. I wonder why the Virgin Mobile guy doesn't look into this business proposition? He's building a spaceship, why not electric cars?
  12. QUOTE(NorthSideSox72 @ Mar 10, 2008 -> 04:09 PM) If I was stupid enough to do something like that, my wife would not go out there on stage with me to discuss it. She'd be busy packing up and leaving. true enough. but the Wives of Powerful men like feeling powerful too.
  13. that's funny...it looks like Jerry Bruckheimer got there first.
  14. QUOTE(Mplssoxfan @ Mar 10, 2008 -> 03:59 PM) Like he's not having a bad enough day, the NYTimes has to pile on. she's probably more embarrassed than she is upset. #1 piece of poo job in history: Politician's wife.
  15. Great role model for your 3 DAUGHTERS, a-hole. They didn't make any money and they get screwed by this guy.
  16. Link linked to high-profile Prostitution ring. I'll save my "spits or swallows" joke for later....
  17. QUOTE(Rex Kicka** @ Mar 10, 2008 -> 03:08 PM) I have been eating such crap lately, that I'm surprised if I didn't pack 3 or 4 pounds on when I next deign to weigh myself. At least I think I'm healed enough to start working out again. dude, tell me about it.... it's the Tri-state area killing us. can't it just be spring already?!?! Tex and FlaJim have no excuse.
  18. QUOTE(FlaSoxxJim @ Mar 10, 2008 -> 01:38 PM) This. Is the Car. I Want. http://www.edmunds.com/advice/alternativef...59/article.html Battery-electric sedan due out at the end of the year, 80 mph max. highway speed, 120-mile range, sticker price of $30K. I'm drooling. drooling over a Hynudai?
  19. QUOTE(SnB @ Mar 10, 2008 -> 12:13 PM) Be Kind, Rewind was awful...i expect way better from jack black. clearly you've never seen "envy" or "bong water"
  20. QUOTE(DBAH0 @ Mar 10, 2008 -> 07:49 AM) If it's Michael, it'll be a major letdown, since that's who everyone assumes it is. I'm going to say a surprise and say Charles Widmore. Don't know why, but that's my guess. CW is trying to GET Ben, so it's not him. Like I said before, it has to be someone that Locke would "need to sit down for" according to Ben. It's clearly a character that people will be familar with. Easy Pick: Michael Back from the Dead Pick: Charlie Dark Horse Pick: Jack's Father Crazy Pick: Brett Favre
  21. QUOTE(bmags @ Mar 6, 2008 -> 04:20 PM) PA and trendy are often synonymous. lol...not most of the time. The Eagles, The Phillies, John Street, Hill People, "Yous", the PA Dutch, etc... PA politics are trendy. This is the state that elected Rick Santorum and Arlen Specter. Odd couple if there ever was one. unless that was a joke about me, then f you
  22. QUOTE(Alpha Dog @ Mar 10, 2008 -> 12:56 AM) I think that should be singular, not plural. UNless you are suggesting he was trained at some secret Al-Jesus traingin camp in the Bible belt or something. Al-Jesus.... too funny

  24. QUOTE(NorthSideSox72 @ Mar 8, 2008 -> 11:52 PM) Sorry I've been not posting or changing my weight. I was out of the country for 2.5 weeks, then very busy. But, I've been working on the weight, and its working. I have dropped 15 pounds so far in Feb, and I'm down to 243 from 258. 2 weeks of backpacking and eating nothing but freeze-dried food did the trick. So, PA, how do we weigh in here? I am a little out of the loop. Is there a schedule? I'll update my sig. everyone should post once in the member thread, so I can check up on your signatures. You can also post info in this thread, but it's easiest if I can just check one thread (the member one).
  25. QUOTE(southsider2k5 @ Mar 8, 2008 -> 01:05 PM) 10,000 BC, a real life Cub fans account of their last World Series win. or the last time you made a funny joke
