If you get guys you "know you can sign" you generally get crap.

QUOTE(Dick Allen @ Aug 13, 2007 -> 09:54 PM) Floyd has had his shot. How many times do you have to bang your head into a wall before you realize it hurts so you stop? That's what I think when people say he needs a chance. Seriously, what would Floyd have to do for the White Sox to say, you know what, that guy is the fifth starter next year? Aren't we really past the point of no doubt with him? Even if he was pretty good the rest of the year which is about as likely as Pratt and me buying Floyd jerseys and starting a fan club for him, you still couldn't count on him. These games are meaningless to evaluate. Its going to come down to next spring no matter what happens the rest of the year, unless he is so horrible they don't even bother with that. Put him in relief and pick his spots, maybe he'll get some confidence and will get that look that he is about to cry off his face. I doubt it, but the rotation is a waste of time. Put Contreras back in the rotation or give someone else a shot, whether its Haeger or Gio or whatever. BTW Tom Candiotti was a decent knuckleballer as was Charlie Hough. I was there Saturday with my cousins who are sort of like my younger brothers and we were there, mainly, to watch Ichiro because they know as well as I that he's something special and it's great to go to the ballpark and watch the men who'll be legends you tell your kids about. (They're also big on the young guys. Much bigger on Owens than I or anyone else is, but they're young kids, so it's okay. They like Fields a lot, too, but so do I.) Well, they're well-versed in the legend of Gavin Floyd as told by me, and one of my cousins said that watching Floyd made him feel like he'd been robbed because he doesn't throw consistent strikes, has an ugly motion, lacks confidence and his stuff isn't that good (cue: BETTER ARM THAN VAZQUEZ[in High School, right?]talk). Floyd just doesn't have it. I, too, wonder when enough will be enough, for him and the fans. I think Ozzie's leash on him is pretty short and might have been cut already if not for the fact that KW traded Garcia for him.

PS: I see you're really going out on a limb by predicting that Haeger won't amount to anything.

QUOTE(CWSGuy406 @ Aug 13, 2007 -> 07:15 PM) Haeger hasn't gotten AAA hitters out this year and didn't get major league hitters out in his stint this season. As to why Floyd deserves a shot over Haeger? It's simple, really, and not very hard to understand -- Floyd is out of options beyond this season, Haeger isn't (at least that I know of). We can afford to be patient with Haeger so he can learn to get AAA hitters outdo his work. Haeger has had just as much, if not more success in the minors than Floyd and I look at Tim Wakefield when I say be patient with Haeger. The knuckleball is all cute and dandy, but I'll say it again -- there's a reason there's only been ONE successful knuckleballer over the past twenty years. Me? I see it more likely that Haeger becomes Steve Sparks than Tim Wakefield. I didn't ask why Floyd deserves a shot over Haeger, did I?

QUOTE(southsider2k5 @ Aug 13, 2007 -> 04:53 PM) Rowand would be the RF, a position he played until he got the majors. I need to learn how to read. So sorry!

QUOTE(southsider2k5 @ Aug 13, 2007 -> 04:51 PM) I wonder what the odds of seeing a Rowand-Owens-Fields OF, from right to left, are for 2008? I'm under the impression that they flatly refuse to consider Fields for Right, but who knows.
-
QUOTE(southsider2k5 @ Aug 13, 2007 -> 04:37 PM) No serious answers yet? Religious, but not in an organized church sort of way. I don't think most of them have the right idea anymore. Way to institutionalized based on how I read the New Testament. Don't impose your religion on me.

Rove hasn't changed s*** in politics. He's Lee Atwater without sex appeal. He's a loser, too. They should've lost 2000 and in fact lost the popular vote. 2004 can be attributed more to John Kerry than Karl Rove. 2006 was a disaster. He's very overrated. He should have a .500 winning percentage, not more, and if we look at it in objective political consultant standards, he's not particularly good. What he has changed -- or deepended, since Clinton did it a bit though nowhere near like Rove -- is the politicization of public policy. Everything's got his fingerprints on it, and that's wrong. QUOTE(kapkomet @ Aug 13, 2007 -> 09:42 AM) Karl Rove = Ozzie Guillen. Please explain this terrible analysis.

QUOTE(Steff @ Aug 13, 2007 -> 09:54 AM) Even if it WAS it still doesn't require them to be there any earlier. And respectfully I would bet against you on that one. I defer to your opinion and admit myself mistaken.

Oh, Kid's Day wasn't Sunday? Well, I still bet that most players hate Kid's Day and complain about it.
-
I imagine that almost all of them complain about that after a night game and having to get out on the field earlier. I doubt it was some, "f***ing kids!!1111111111111" type of diatribe.

Karl Rove is a poor, evil man's Mark Hannah, and he should've been fired long ago for circumventing the policy process (Price of Loyalty).

QUOTE(Heads22 @ Aug 12, 2007 -> 01:15 PM) For as much as Gavin not deserving the fifth spot, either does Haeger. Inconclusive.

QUOTE(Dick Allen @ Aug 12, 2007 -> 08:10 AM) For a guy with supposedly great "stuff", Floyd certainly gets whacked around a lot. His walk rate is actually not bad so far this year, much better than its been in previous big league tries, but 10 homers in 24 innings, including 7 in 11 innings at USCF, and a .361 BAA indicates to me he isn't worthy of more starts. He has had a great start each of the seasons he has pitched in the big leagues, yet always snaps back to what he is. He did pitch well against Detroit, but he certainly caught them at the right time, as they were struggling and Rodriquez and Sheffield were out of the line-up. They lit him up previously. I just have a hard time understanding why he is deserving of an extended look, but others need more time or aren't worthy. I understand Floyd is going to be out of options, but we are seeing why he is out of options. truth

Gavin Floyd doesn't have it. I don't understand the need to "see him" quote as many times as possible end quote so that we can get a "good idea" of what we have in him. How many more outings like this is he allowed? I give him until September, but I don't think he genuinely deserves it. I'd simply move Haeger into the rotation and DL Danks so as to not rush anyone and give Danks some time.

QUOTE(Heads22 @ Aug 11, 2007 -> 11:22 PM) You had me until you somehow connected "Contreras" and "future". I mean, according to wikipedia, he's 135. Might be hard to deal him this offseason, and we're likely going to have him for much of the first half next year, at least. Either way, an overage Contreras is a much better pitcher than Gavin Floyd.

Official Love for the Milwaukee Brewers Thread

QUOTE(jackie hayes @ Aug 8, 2007 -> 07:44 PM) Plus 70-some in the minors. They supposedly have him on an inning limit, but they throw him when they would have pulled anyone else? And Lincecum the other day, leaving him in to hit after he'd thrown 105 pitches already. Not that it compares to the Gallardo idiocy, but still, teams are going crazy with these young pitchers. Guillen good -
Floyd hit 94 about four times tonight. Was at 91 about 85% of the time. Hit 92 a few times, and 93 a few times, but no more than ten combined. He was almost entirely at 91. (Was at the game.) Didn't look good. Lots of outs were very hard hit. Etc. etc. Fields good. Contreras getting better, and his velocity was creeping up. Consistently about 92-93. His other pitches were getting over well, too. He's a much better option for this team's future than Gavin Floyd except for the money, which is what I've always said. I wouldn't be surprised if he got better once he's got his wife out of his head and feels better, health-wise. Sexson is a bad baserunner. Discuss.
