Tonight Was This Season's Turnaround?
Gregory Pratt replied to JohnCangelosi's topic in Pale Hose Talk
Everything about Owens swing is hideous, IMO, but I only saw highlights so I couldn't say for sure sure. I don't think this is a turnaround. For months, after games like this, I've thought it was time for the turnaround but it never happened and I've realized that it's not a particularly good team. We'll see what happens. Go Sox. -
I don't care what you expect. I'm being realistic. This season is over. I'll follow, but I'm not going to pretend that this is a good team. Time to tear it down and rebuild.

QUOTE(santo=dorf @ May 31, 2007 -> 09:55 PM) Guess we won't be seeing you as much in Pale Hose Talk? Doubt you live up to it. Erstad isn't a major loss. You doubt I live up to what? I didn't say anything about leaving. I'll still watch the games. I'll still post my thoughts. But I've been saying for awhile that we aren't very good, and today was the final straw, although this whole damn week has sucked.

that the season is over?

QUOTE(Greg The Bull Luzinski @ May 31, 2007 -> 08:50 PM) Since we easily have the slowest team in the majors right now, this could be a good thing. Wrong. We're still going to be slow as all hell. It's not like he's going to be put into the 3-7 that clogs the bases.

QUOTE(fathom @ May 31, 2007 -> 08:26 PM) - Development of Danks - Thome's chase for 500 homers I was thinking of Danks and Buehrle.
-
There are only two more reasons to watch Sox baseball at this point, for me, besides the obvious "It's Sox baseball!" And one of them is gone in July.

QUOTE(The Ginger Kid @ May 31, 2007 -> 08:21 PM) I'm sure Anderson will step right into the lead off position and be a leader on the team, both in the field and at the plate. Me too. -- This news really, really bothers me.

fathom, I think you need to keep track of games or get rid of that silly signature. Ozzie's been quite good this year.

White Sox vs. Blue Jays, 5/31/07 (L)

QUOTE(Dick Allen @ May 31, 2007 -> 07:44 PM) He went to the clubhouse when Buerhle took one off the hand. No way. He only does it for Erstad. They conspired to kill Brian Anderson's career. OH HOW THE MIGHTY HAVE FALLEN! -

QUOTE(whitesoxfan101 @ May 31, 2007 -> 07:30 PM) It took Hawk's clubhouse run to make me feel that way, blame him. And no I don't care if anybody finds it pathetic, I find most posts here pathetic too. I guess if Thome collapsed and Hawk went to check on him you'd be thrilled, too. -
Ozzie Throwing in the Towel... on Himself?

QUOTE(Jenks Heat @ May 31, 2007 -> 01:04 PM) Because there are players on this team that are above average, many of them. 80% of this team is underachieving. I think they ran out of gas last year......kind of like the Tigers are looking right now. You and many other people on this site need to stop looking at the last half of last season. If you are going to look at last year, look at the whole year not the second half and then the first part of this season. They won over 90 games last year. Will they this year.....who knows but the Tigers are within reach and as bad as the Sox have played they are still in it. For god sake it is May31st can they go on a run like the 06 Twins, 05 Indians, 02 Marlins, 83 Sox......I don't know but I am not going to say that because they have played average baseball over a span that is irrelevant that they are done. I will rather say this team hasn't played nearly as well as they can. Facing Halladay and Burnett will not be easy but they have to be better at wha they do and go from there. They can go on a run but the White Sox generally don't do that and we've got a bunch of older veterans that'll get tired, IMO, and hurt. The Tigers are looking tired to you right now? Ha! We don't have a team of above-average guys offensively. We have a lousy bench and a bunch of guys that are coming back to Earth. And we don't have the speed to rally without homers unless the other team really f***s up. Defensively. -

QUOTE(Jenks Heat @ May 31, 2007 -> 12:07 PM) I see your point and understand it, I see Guillen's too. I believe neither is right nad neither is wrong. Taking the game as a whole I don't see anyone coming up for the Sox as a benefit and worthy of leaving Jenks out there to be done today. If Halladay is on a pitch count (I don't think he will be) these bozo's better make him work as his stamina should be reduced somewhat. The same thing with Clemens Monday. This series will decide if this team is good or not. A nice weekend series could do the White Sox good especially with the Tribe and Detroit playing 4. That was decided a long time ago and the results aren't positive. Come on, we all watch the same games. How can anybody think this team as is isn't average at best? -
There was a guy on another Sox message board who posted that he likes to pretend the Sox won when they lose because it makes him feel better.

QUOTE(Texsox @ May 30, 2007 -> 06:41 PM) One of the great things about this country is we generally "get it right" in the end. We may over act or under act at times, but we eventually do the right thing most of the time. What on Earth are you talking about? What the hell's that got to do with this issue? Besides, I disagree that Americans -- or any country -- "gets it right most of the time, in the end." Or, at least, I contend that "in the end" isn't good enough and we should get more things right the first time.

QUOTE(RockRaines @ May 30, 2007 -> 09:44 AM) s***, Ill stick to guys just in the ALC Sizemore Verlander (5-1 2.71 ERA) Morneau Santana (best pitcher of all time IMO) Hafner Uh? No. Not even close. He has several more years to go before he can even be mentioned like that, IMO.
-
QUOTE(fathom @ May 30, 2007 -> 05:10 PM) I think it's a two way straight with Ozzie and the young prospects. Ozzie is so much like every manager when it comes to veteran-versus-rookie when it comes to his love for veterans. -- Beyond that, I'd like to say: KW did a terrible job last offseason. Not with the bullpen, IMO. The results aren't good but I don't blame him. I just think the offense needed serious retooling and said so often.
-
I know what you were referencing. I'm not sure KW can execute a firesale properly. We will see!
-
Hernandez isn't on my list simply because I expect him to flame out with injury before he's thirty. Like a Fernando Valenzuela.

QUOTE(Hideaway Lights @ May 29, 2007 -> 10:48 PM) I love it when you generalize, wimpy, especially over several years in a way that makes no sense the 2008 and 2009 white sox will not necessarily look anything like this team whatsoever. Did you just call me wimpy? Ha! I don't have faith that the 2008 and 2009 White Sox will be any good. It's looking like we'll be a fourth place team. Fifth if the Royals prospects pan out, and they've got some fantastic ones. Our minor league system is garbage. I don't think we have the will to win too many bidding wars and we'd have to to build a good team, what with our system. There's lots to dislike about this organization's future. Too much to dislike about it.

A) This team isn't fun to watch anymore. If not for Danks and Buehrle, I don't think I'd ever watch for entertainment. I watch every game, still, because I love the Chicago White Sox and it's baseball, but it's not fun anymore. B) Why doesn't anybody hustle aside from Mackowiak, Ozuna, Thome and Erstad? Do the other guys think, "I'm so good I don't have to run hard"? Because they're not. Run it out when it's in play, don't f***ing job or shrug. Who the f*** do some of these guys think they are? Manny Ramirez? Well Manny and Aramis Ramirez can shrug because they are absolute monsters at the plate (but even with them it's obnoxious). We don't have anyone really on that level except for Thome and he runs hard. C) I'm happy that the team's marketing is so good. I love our commercials, ads, billboards, etc. etc. They're good. I really think we're going to need that to keep good attendance in the coming years because the product on the field sure isn't going to attract people long-term. D) This team is too slow to win anything. E) I'm emulating my new idol.

The Time To Act... Unfortunately is Now.

QUOTE(TitoMB345 @ May 29, 2007 -> 09:08 PM) It's almost a stretch to say we are average. Yeah. I don't believe in this team anymore. We suck. I'll be the first to say I'm wrong if they pull off a 2006-Twins all of a sudden but that's not going to happen. This team is poorly constructed and it shows. I'm aboard the firesale bandwagon. Don't know if I'd get rid of Buehrle, but most everyone else is available. Actually, I don't like the term "firesale." I don't want to get rid of everyone, or even every veteran. I want to hold onto Buehrle. But I'd trade him for the right package. -
That is a nifty load of spin I've heard in a few places. The truth is that he's going to the MLB franchise with the greatest history and he is a fairly important part of it from the late 1990s. He is a fairly important part of baseball history, too. And I hate Clemens and ESPN and the Yankees. It's just pretty basic. Yankees = the greatest franchise in baseball, perhaps in all of sports. Might be the sleaziest, too, but you can't take away its greatness. I hope we rip the s*** out of him. I've been saying so since I announced it in a gamethread awhile ago. I hate Clemens. I really do. I think he's the weakest of the Big Four of the last fifteen years (Clemens, Martinez, Maddux, Johnson).

Fun Topic : worst deals in Sox history

Re-signing Podsednik is one of the worst signings.
