  1. QUOTE(fathom @ Apr 10, 2006 -> 09:33 PM) BTW, I'm 99 pct certain that Thome charged the mound against Rheal Cormier a while back. The funny thing is that Thome and Cormier are real close friends. Thome said he charged the mound for the sake of the team. To show how classy of a guy he is, Thome and Cormier hung out after the game. Yeah, I just found a nifty interview with Thome: http://www.findarticles.com/p/articles/mi_..._62/ai_99237356 ------------ Does anyone know of anytime Bonds charged, post-1998?
  2. QUOTE(IlliniKrush @ Apr 10, 2006 -> 09:06 PM) http://cgi.ebay.com/1st-Hot-Dog-Sold-Cardi...1QQcmdZViewItem I, ah, didn't see anything when I opened it. It says the page isn't working. What is it?
  3. I love this. Sign me up to that company's plan right now.
  4. QUOTE(witesoxfan @ Apr 10, 2006 -> 06:34 PM) Umm sarcasm Green.
  5. My friend Christopher and I were talking the other day, after Pedro Martinez had a player (Guillen?) charge the mound at him pointing a bat, and I said, "Man, could you imagine having Barry Bonds or Jim Thome swing a bat at you?" "Yeah," he said. "You'd get killed by Thome and decapatated by Bonds." I asked him if he's ever seen someone bean Bonds, since he's an NL-loving Cub, and he said no. "Good move by the pitchers, considering that they might be victim to his Roid Rage if they did." I don't think Thome's enough of a hothead to ever charge the mound. I'm pretty sure Bonds is. Does anyone know if Bonds/Thome have been beaned in recent years/did either of them charge the mound as a result? And if the answer is no, which I'm pretty sure it is in both cases, at what odds do you put it that Bonds or Thome might charge the mound if beaned? I'd put the odds at zero percent for Thome. I'm not sure about Bonds. I know he must be pissed by the way the NL is pitching to him so far this year, and he's got a lot on his mind, plus he seems inclined toward violence by things such as the alleged (and I believe true) abuse of his ex-girlfriend. I'd put him at fifty percent. A part of me wishes Bonds would charge the mound at someone. Or that a pitcher might take that risk and bean him. What do you think?
  6. I love Hawk and DJ, but this made me laugh when I first saw it.
  7. QUOTE(mmmmmbeeer @ Apr 10, 2006 -> 05:41 PM) I don't know...I've been somewhat disappointed with Thome's inability to be diverse and flexible. I mean he's a great team player and everything, but the fact that he's failed to hit any f***ing bombs shorter than 400ft is kinda showing up his teamates. I'd like him to toss in a couple 350ft shots here and there, atleast try to appear human. Outside of Sheffield, I can't think of a guy with a faster, more powerful swing than Big Jim. No doubt guys like Pujols, Cabrera, hell, even Paulie have better mechanics to their swing and look more graceful, but based on a pure POWER swing, f***in' Thome, man. Ummm. Thome + 400+foot homers = a happy Clubhouse, I'm sure.
  8. QUOTE(greasywheels121 @ Apr 10, 2006 -> 05:30 PM) http://whitesox.mlb.com/NASApp/mlb/news/ar...t=.jsp&c_id=cws This was Freddy's 100th career victory. A few more, and he gets the most career wins of any Venezuelan. I read that he's looking forward to it. (Not like you can't infer that, though. )
  9. QUOTE(greasywheels121 @ Apr 10, 2006 -> 05:27 PM) Um..The A's had a game that night. And he said the following: Ah, okay. I was just wondering.
  10. QUOTE(Balta1701 @ Apr 10, 2006 -> 01:57 PM) LOL...I love that. "You won't get any argument from anyone on that, except for the people who disagree." It's very true, at least.
  11. QUOTE(WCSox @ Apr 10, 2006 -> 05:19 PM) Yeah, and Frank played for what - a month? He contributed, but a lot less than the guys you named. Paulie called him out a few years ago for showing up late and not being a leader. And he got into a well-documented piss fight with Manuel back in ST of 2000. Frank wasn't as big a douchebag as Sosa, but few players are. It's not that I view Frank as a negative, but I just grew tired of his bulls*** over the past five years. It became rather obvious to me that he has an ego the size of Montana and wasn't the best teammate in the world. That said, he's the greatest hitter in franchise history, was great to the fans when he was here, and I still respect him overall. Agreed that the comparison might not be fair overall, but the manner in which they left their respective teams is comparable. If Frank hadn't started a war-of-words with KW and attended the ring ceremony (like Rowand), a lot of people would've thought more highly of him. I agree with your point, but I thought Frank didn't get invited to the Ceremony? I don't think, that said, that he'd have showed (remember his b****ing about how he'd have never done the things he did in the playoffs if he had known he'd be let go?) but I thought he didn't get an invite anyway to piss on?
  12. QUOTE(Reddy @ Apr 10, 2006 -> 04:45 PM) my prediction: buehrle gets inked to a 4-6 year contract then moves on to finish his career is St. Louis, which is exactly what he's said he wants to do. Where did he say exactly that? I thought Buehrle has said he would love to pitch for Cardinals, but has reservations due to his love for privacy (essentially, he said that he'd be recognized more by people in Missouri if he pitched for the St. Louis team), and that he'd sign for Life with the Sox if it were offered to him. I wasn't aware that he'd said, exactly, "I want four to six years with the Sox, then go to St. Louis kthnx Kenny Wills!"
  13. QUOTE(Dick Allen @ Apr 10, 2006 -> 05:11 PM) Am I the only one very happy not to see Steve Perry anywhere near a White Sox game? Seconded.
  14. I think Frank Thomas should come back in seven years and be the Manager for the White Sox.
  15. I think Thome + MVP = Pipe Dream. It's very real as a possibility if he plays First Base, but I think it was well-established last year that the Voters aren't willing to vote in a DH. All the power to him, I'd be thrilled like everyone else if he got it. But I doubt it very much.
  16. QUOTE(RockRaines @ Apr 10, 2006 -> 01:22 PM) Yes, but all but one of those LOOGY's are not in baseball at the moment I believe, and none of them made a major league roster at all. Not exactly elite competition. The guy is a decent lefty, probably better than the 2005 Marte, but hes still the last arm out of the pen. I trust Boone more than Thornton. Certainly more than Marte.
  17. QUOTE(RockRaines @ Apr 10, 2006 -> 01:14 PM) You gotta admit, the only reason he made the roster is because they couldnt find anyone else. The guy is a decent pitcher, but he is still behind Polite, Cotts, BMAC, Jenks and Thornton out of the pen. I think that's perfectly within the realm of reason, but he had to outpitch the other LOOGY's that came, and he did outpitch them against good lineups and bad ones. He busted his ass. QUOTE(AddisonStSox @ Apr 10, 2006 -> 01:14 PM) Let's get everyone playing time. I don't want any hurt feelings. I'm glad you're able to grasp subtlety and nuance.
  18. QUOTE(AddisonStSox @ Apr 10, 2006 -> 01:09 PM) But...but...but...Logan is such a cuddly story. Give me a f***ing break. The only time Logan should be seeing playing time is when the Sox are up or down by seven runs. I won't give you a break but I think you need a Reality Check. Logan made the Roster and earned his spot. He should play whenever Guillen puts him out there. QUOTE(SnB @ Apr 10, 2006 -> 01:08 PM) drop the insults. That certainly doesn't apply to me alone, Tiger. And since the Admin told me to, I did.
  19. QUOTE(AddisonStSox @ Apr 10, 2006 -> 01:06 PM) No, here's what you said. There's a time and place for that...it's called High-A ball. Logan earned his spot on the roster -- on this roster. On the Major League Roster.
  20. QUOTE(AddisonStSox @ Apr 10, 2006 -> 01:05 PM) Sorry, this ain't little league, buddy. We are playing for wins and losses here. You go ahead and test your 20 year old High-A-baller in a one run game against one of the hottest teams in baseball. Brilliant. I didn't say he should come out today in a one-run game.
  21. QUOTE(RockRaines @ Apr 10, 2006 -> 01:04 PM) Why put in a lefty against a righthanded lineup? It makes no sense. I didn't say he should go in today.
  22. QUOTE(SnB @ Apr 10, 2006 -> 01:03 PM) let him prove himself in the mop up role before we put him in 1-2 run games. I think that's fair enough. I'm not advocating him staying in now. I acknowledged without explicitly saying that he shouldn't come out today by saying he should come out tomorrow -- or, as I put it, that I'd like to see him. I'm just replying to Dusty Baker over there.
  23. QUOTE(AddisonStSox @ Apr 10, 2006 -> 12:59 PM) You have to be f***ing kidding me. Please. Please tell me you're messing around. I'm not f***ing kidding you. All pitchers need to be put out there to see what they've got. Logan was fine his first time and gave up a homer to Hafner the second time. I think Logan can manage, Baker, and I think he should be given the chance. Go Paul Konerko!
  24. QUOTE(AddisonStSox @ Apr 10, 2006 -> 12:59 PM) I don't get it, Richie. McCarthy is the only pitcher in that bullpen I have confidence in to get this game to Jenks--whether or not I believe in him in the ninth is a different story all together. McCarthy needs to stay in. If Ozzie get's cute here with a Politte/Cotts...or...even worse a Politte/Logan tandum, I'm going to lose it. Because who you have confidence in is all that matters, hmm? A couple of misplayed games and Politte, Logan and Cotts should be relegated to the pits of bullpen hell because only Brandon McCarthy can throw. And putting them in against your almighty wisdom is "get[ting] cute".
