QUOTE(fathom @ Oct 3, 2007 -> 06:22 PM) Something like that. Really, why are you rooting for Boston?

QUOTE(fathom @ Oct 3, 2007 -> 06:16 PM) I hate saying this....but I'm rooting for the Red Sox. Because only one man can stop the Cubs and that's Josh Beckett?

I loved watching the Angels take BP at Sox park a few weeks ago. Just practicing their fundamentals and hitting the other way and hitting line-drives. It was great, watching them take BP and not play HR Derby.

QUOTE(Leonard Zelig @ Oct 3, 2007 -> 06:06 PM) So when the Sox play the Tigers, you go downstairs and listen to those guys? I think they are 2 of the worst--AL only, I didn't watch much NL, except the Phillies, whose guys I like. We watch a variety of games. I don't recall, offhand, just how bad the Tigers announcers are in reality. I do know that I listen to Harrelson day in day out during the season, as I catch almost every single Sox game, and he is consistently terrible, always making the same calls and telling the same stories every single game.

QUOTE(Leonard Zelig @ Oct 3, 2007 -> 05:51 PM) Just curious, do you have the MLB Extra Innings package? I live in a second floor apartment. My best friend lives in the first floor, and we watch it there. And yes, I think Hawk is worse than all those others I've heard.
-
I can appreciate a homer announcer but not Hawk, with his "Crede > A-Rah" and "Stretch!" and "DADGUMMIT!" which is frankly the worst call I've ever heard from an announcer.

QUOTE(RockRaines @ Oct 3, 2007 -> 03:54 PM) And Tony Why do you only like managers/GMs from other cities? -
Terrible plate discipline so far. They should have a guy on third with one out, at most, but they've got two. Let's go Angels!

QUOTE(whitesoxfan101 @ Oct 3, 2007 -> 05:25 PM) Anybody that likes Wrigley Field itself is simply an idiot. The neighborhood is a good time, but the stadium itself is the biggest hell hole in sports and has no redeeming qualities, since you can find the easy chicks just as well outside the gates as inside of them. I am disappointed that your first post in this thread is about how much you hate Wrigley Field instead of being about HOW BIG A CHOKER CHASE UTLEY IS!!!!!!!!!1111 -
So who has played their last game in a Sox uni?

QUOTE(Balta1701 @ Oct 3, 2007 -> 05:20 PM) The only way they could decide not offering him arb was a good idea was if they didn't want him back at $13.5 million next year, which would just be pretty stupid of them. Yeah, all I'm saying is it's possible, especially if they wind up making a splash in a trade and can't afford even the chance that nobody wants Boras' price and Andruw accepts for another year. -
QUOTE(Whitewashed in '05 @ Oct 3, 2007 -> 05:22 PM) That's funny because you're just in college and yet you talk about everyone like they're idiots. I don't talk about everyone as if they were idiots. At least I don't try to. I do understand why it might seem like that, since I am on a White Sox board and this is an organization that has done some idiotic things and has some idiotic commentary from the booth ("Duckfart!!!!!!!11") and from the scouts/GM ("tick beneath Jenks/trade for the wrong player") and from the manager ("Leave Contreras out for a Boston massacre!") but I don't think I'm smarter than everyone or that everyone's an idiot. Not at all. And I've had good things to say about this organization, too. I think Cooper's good at his job. Ozzie, usually. Richar looked alright and better as time went on and if he turns out, good for the scouts.

I want Barry Bonds in the Cell
Gregory Pratt replied to Punch and Judy Garland's topic in Sox Baseball Headquarters
QUOTE(CWSGuy406 @ Oct 3, 2007 -> 05:16 PM) Yes -- I'm sure Bonds would just divide the clubhouse. I'd imagine the gates to hell would open right in the middle of Ozzie Guillen's office, just 'cause of Bonds. You're on a roll today. Grass is green. I love it when you talk baseball -- so easy... Bonds would, literally, divide the clubhouse with his "gimme my own section in the locker room" demands. But really -- what's your problem? You quote things out of context and then you confuse talk[ing] baseball with talking baseball fields. I know you're mortally offended because I've declared Bonds a clubhouse cancer but you should really get over it, and I'm getting tired of having to argue against your mischaracterizations and misrepresentations. But I deserve it, you know? For saying such outrageous things as "Ozzie wouldn't like the things Bonds brings," which is what Ozzie has said. s***, Paul Konerko couldn't even get along with Frank Thomas, and he's a very similar personality to Bonds but without the inflation that steroids bring. I guess I'm more troubled by your arrogant, dishonest style which I'm sure you don't have in real life. "-- so easy..." Give me a break and a full thought sometime and then we'll talk. But hey, like I said...sorry I've offended your Bonds sensibilities. -
It's obvious that AJ Pierzynski is the future of the White Sox broadcast booth.

I don't think the Braves will offer arbitration, either. They had a bad experience with that when they were forced to give Millwood away to the Phillies because they'd offerred Maddux arbitration thinking him gone, Maddux found nothing, accepted, won and handcuffed them. They don't want to risk the same thing with another Boras client although perhaps they do offer arbitration. Who knows. -
QUOTE(Dick Allen @ Oct 3, 2007 -> 05:13 PM) I read somewhere where he wants to get into broadcasting. He might be pretty good at it, but it does take time. Yeah. After all these years, Hawk Harrelson still hasn't learned.

QUOTE(fathom @ Oct 3, 2007 -> 05:09 PM) Doesn't Ozzie Guillen hate the place and didn't he say he wishes it was destroyed? Yeah, it was kind of funny. (I, of course, don't endorse everything he says.) -

For every player, writer or Sox fan you can find who hates Wrigley, I'm sure I can find a counterpart who enjoys the place. And that's all I have to add to this discussion since there is no victory and the "discussion" would be endless and mind-numbing ("Wrigley is a dump," "I like Sox Park churros," "HAIL" -- f*** that) -

QUOTE(mr_genius @ Oct 3, 2007 -> 04:36 PM) sign bonds, then all we need is a few more DH's to be really good. Have 4, maybe 5 DH's on the team and we're ready to rock. Defense sucks, so does speed, and upgrading the bullpen is a bad idea. The 2005 sox won, but that season sucked. I much prefer the classic "softball team" white sox lineup. Plus, if Ozzie has any problems with Bonds, get rid of Ozzie and make Barry manager/player. If Ozzie doesn't get along with Barry, it's because Ozzie's not competitive enough. -

QUOTE(southsideirish71 @ Oct 3, 2007 -> 04:34 PM) How about I hate the park because I hate the park. Its a dump. Its an old crappy park that doesnt have a lot of amenities. Peeing in a tub doesn't excite me, or give me penis envy. Sitting behind a pylon where I cant see doesnt give me penis envy. Having piece of concrete fall requiring a girdle for the park doesnt give me penis envy. Having a field that floods when it trickles a bit doesnt do it either. We understand it, you like wrigley. Great for you. However not everyone gets the lower half tickle going to the dump. If we're going to bring up the old embarrassment of the concrete incident...at least people don't shoot the Upper Deck at Wrigley. Point is, every ballpark has some embarrassing anecdote. "WRIGLEY SUX!" Gotcha. -

QUOTE(fathom @ Oct 3, 2007 -> 04:33 PM) Nope...the grass sucks (ask Ken Griffey Jr. what he thinks of it), it's embarassing to have a brick wall that could easily injure an outfielder, the park is a joke when the wind is blowing out, and there are a lot of bad seats throughout. As the shirt says "Wrigley Field: World's Largest Gay Bar". Most players would disagree with Griffey, from what I've seen...and besides, you've got your bias from the time the older Cub fan kids at school beat you up and took your Ron Karkovice baseball cards. -

QUOTE(BigSqwert @ Oct 3, 2007 -> 04:29 PM) I honestly think the park is a piece of crap. I tried to like it the few times I've been there but I don't get it. If the place had 10K fans in it all the time instead of a full house you most likely wouldn't worship it the way you do. I don't worship Wrigley. I just think it's delightful, and I think that of a few other ballparks as well. Minimal advertisements. Full crowd, always. Green grass, ivy padded walls, comfortable rows and aisles. And I'm definitely not alone, and I'm not even just joined by Cub fans. People from Barry Zito to most baseball writers to many baseball players all love Wrigley Field. -

QUOTE(Soxbadger @ Oct 3, 2007 -> 04:28 PM) Baker doesnt know how to win, he is to laid back. Bonds is very competitive, probably why he didnt fit into Baker's friendly atmosphere. Oh, right, Dusty Baker isn't competitive. Thanks for letting me know. He and Bonds didn't get along because Bonds is much more competitive. It couldn't possibly have something to do with Bonds' insistence that his steroid trainers trail him, that he have his own spot in the locker room, that he doesn't hustle and plays bad defense, that he's rude to certain teammates and brings worse reaction than Brett Myers to the crowd. I know you like Bonds but give me a break. Dusty Baker is good friends with Bob Gibson and spent time with him playing on the same teams. He doesn't dislike Bonds for being "too competitive." -

We've been through this "Wrigley sucks" nonsense before. I think you guys who hate Wrigley Field have got penis envy. "Oh, my Cubs neighbor will make fun of me." "Oh, the media will care more about the Cubs than the Sox." "Oh, our ballpark is newer -- and it's made of advertisings, not steel, so it's unique!"
