QUOTE(RockRaines @ Oct 8, 2007 -> 10:42 AM) I think your signatures are out of compliance with the sites guidelines. Your signature's not kid-friendly. Children might see it and smoke pot. -- Griese looked alright last night. Better than Grossman.

Have you lost your mind Mr. President???

QUOTE(mr_genius @ Oct 8, 2007 -> 01:11 AM) "now, now, Gregory... maintain your composure." Haha, that was good. It reminds me of all those cartoons that have mocked Clinton as being whipped and his wife as beating him around. But the point stands that everyone uses their pardons for sleazy purposes and all of them have some embarrassing, disgusting pardons to their name. -
I'd really like to know what Woo Woo does for a living, or where he gets his money. If I recall correctly, he's married and has a child, or two. He can't be a total bum, though he looks like it.

QUOTE(fathom @ Oct 7, 2007 -> 09:32 PM) At least with Rex, the game was kinda exciting. This has to be the most boring Bears game in a long time. Boo to every dumbass Bears fan who was chanting Griese's name. I used to laugh at Rex Grossman, if that's what you mean by exciting.

QUOTE(mr_genius @ Oct 7, 2007 -> 04:35 PM) "I could show him how to pardon criminals before leaving office, I'm an expert. All those campaign contributions aren't free." Every President makes some disgusting pardons. Get over yourself. George H.W. Bush's were just as bad (man who would've incriminated his ass); Carter's, in my view, worse (assassins); Reagan's, worse. (Watergate.) -
QUOTE(southsider2k5 @ Oct 7, 2007 -> 03:39 PM) The irony is that Arizona had Anderson rated above Young as well. Arizona got lucky. Heck who knows, maybe Anderson away from his arch nemesis Ozzie Guillen develops like everyone thought he could. You've seen his swing, right? It has nothing to do with Osvaldo.

Marion Jones, what a lady :rolleyes

QUOTE(redandwhite @ Oct 7, 2007 -> 02:54 PM) Don't you dare think that she was the only one taking steroids. Track & Field is the dirtiest sport of any, Jones just happened to get caught. It was stupid of her to lie and she should be punished accordingly for that, but locking her up is nonsense. She is of no threat to society. We live in a world that's far too fast to throw people into prison for things they probably shouldn't be in prison for and we let people out of prison far too soon or keep them out to begin with for things that they should be in prison for for a long, long time. -
QUOTE(SEALgep @ Oct 7, 2007 -> 02:48 PM) My gosh man, you sound like you're bummed the Cubs lost or something. Do you hate the organization, but like the team at least? Ooh, you got me. I'm bummed that the Cubs lost. But yes, I like the logo and the laundry. I don't like the history, the owner, the management. I don't think Joe Torre would come here (this is not a prestigious organization), I know we wouldn't give him the money (this is not a particularly generous organization, with its money), and we've already got a manager (who was recently extended).

I can't believe PA forgot to include the video -- that's what he does! It's like you forgetting the Liriano, man.

QUOTE(DaGame2584 @ Oct 7, 2007 -> 01:15 PM) lmao, I don't even consider him. NO WAY the Sox talk to him about a contract. No, I don't think they would and I probably wouldn't, either . But you said: and I think that's a crazy list without Andruw Jones.
-
QUOTE(DaGame2584 @ Oct 7, 2007 -> 12:47 PM) I wouldn't be opposed to that lineup, BUT I think Cameron will get injured too much during his contract. Plus his strikeouts worry me. I would rate CF FA's like this: 1. Fukudome 2. Rowand 3. Hunter 4. Cameron 5. Patterson I take in consideration $$$, contract length, production, and money to be made off them for the club. I think Fukudome brings in more money for the Sox because the Japanese market. Rowand would help in the local market. Andruw Jones says hola!

Let's go Rockies -- the dream!

Joe Torre deserves better than this franchise and he'd never consider it.

On another note, I was at a poetry slam last night with a bunch of people, friends, and there was this Mets fan there. Very few baseball people, just two of us in fact, but I introduced myself to him as "a Braves fan and a White Sox fan." He said, "You bastard!" and love began. He talked about the Mets, I told him his team would be third for the next five years, he laughed and said "Not behind you bastards!" and we talked. Eventually, I said to him, "You know what? Let's go," and we took our stances, called three and wrestled. I brought him down and it was delightful. All before the poetry slam really started. And when it did, we all read. I brought Richard Wilbur and Lawrence Ferlinghetti's Baseball Canto. Canto, which I posted here once, is quite a poem to read aloud. I don't particularly care for it but I like reading it. If that makes sense.

Some guys, they don't need all that money. Tim Wakefield, for instance, who took his contract that basically says FU to the MLBPA. Same with Buehrle. Glavine? I don't think it's like that per se. He really never wanted to leave Atlanta and was strongarmed into it by his loyalty to the Union. Now he knows it's almost over, his best friend in the world is almost done, too, his hometown team where he still lives wants him back -- it could, theoretically, be his and his best friend's last chance to win a title. Yeah, it makes sense that he'd say, "I don't need the extra money. I want to win, and I want to win a last one in Atlanta, with my best friend and others." Or, perhaps, it's just a negotiating ploy.

QUOTE(SEALgep @ Oct 7, 2007 -> 08:57 AM) Such a generalization... Fields has the bat speed to catch up to fastballs and to say he's less likely to adapt to that than Young is to learning how to hit a curve ball is completely unfair. It's apples and mangos. If you can't hit a fastball, you can't survive for long. Next year is key for Josh Fields and I have to see what he does then to know what he is. Right now he has some very obvious flaws and we will have to see what happens before he's as good as Young. I do wish we had both on our team into the future. But I'm not the one who projected Brian Anderson a better keep than Chris Young.
-
I can't believe that someone is actually arguing that Josh Fields is > Chris Young, especially when you consider their swings and problems. A guy with issues against fastballs has far less potential than a guy who has issues with offspeed pitches and that's about the long/short of it. It is theoretically possible for both to collapse next year at the plate, but it is far likelier, IMO, that Fields does because people will adapt to him if he hasn't yet learned how to hit an inside fastball. People won't be giving him pitches away that he can slap out of the yard. Young is a much better player because he isn't defensively retarded, has a good swing and runs the bases better.

QUOTE(southsideirish71 @ Oct 6, 2007 -> 10:40 PM) I have a world series chicago whitesox bat sitting in my basement mounted in its glass case on the wall. I now can salute my cub fan breather en as they can now purchase a limited edition NL Central Division bat. I didnt even know they sold a welcome to the playoffs version. Woo Hoo, you made the playoffs. Celebrate the sweep. Celebrate futility, 1908 LOL But I had fun at Wrigley. LOL LOL You act as if you're a fan of the Yankees or something. -- I just hope that this teaches Sox fans to kill themselves AFTER the Cubs win a playoff game, not before they get swept. "Best team in the NL!!!!" Right.

I want Barry Bonds in the Cell

QUOTE(Controlled Chaos @ Oct 5, 2007 -> 12:55 PM) I'm not sure if I should post my dissenting opinion in this thread or not, but here goes. I dislike Bonds very much so and would have trouble feeling good about winning anything with him as the catalyst. The win's would be tainted IMO. Don't get me wrong I root for the laundry, but I prefer my laundry to be clean. Bonds would leave an indelible mark on this franchise...win or lose. With the way things are going...you should appreciate every win you get! -

Oh, I'll add two cents to Ozzie+players: Scott Steroidwise and Ozzie had a rough relationship, and from what I've heard that applies to most pitchers who go out and don't throw strikes and suck. Chris Stewart has great things to say about Ozzie, from what I heard from someone who plays in the Rangers minor league system. "He's a good guy who hates the media," is how I was told.

What kind of "second chance" did Razor Shines expect Ozzie Guillen to give Sean Tracey? What kind of second chance can you give a baseball player with absolutely hideous control coupled with mediocre stuff (a 90 MPH fastball isn't electric) who doesn't do the one thing asked of him -- not to be good, not to dominate an inning, but to simply plunk a guy who missed twice then quit? Besides that, Poplar asked me to explain what I've heard -- and Steff did that, so I have nothing else to add. I doubt that this team's future will be impacted by the absence of Razor Shines.
