  1. QUOTE(CWSGuy406 @ Sep 25, 2007 -> 09:21 PM) The Braves need to win out, yes? If they got to the playoffs they'd be favorites, in my mind. Their bullpen ain't anything but they can mash and, with three man rotations, nobody can even come close to touching Smoltz - Hudson. Oh, yeah. Hella lineup, good enough bullpen. No dominant closer but that isn't a MUST. They've got some good relievers, though. And Smoltz-Hudson is very, very good. If they make it, they'd be very, very good. Goddamn, I'd love that. You know what's strange? They offered us Renteria + Jo-Jo Reyes, it's believed, for Garland. For the life of me I can't quite figure out why not. If the Braves pick up, say, Glavine next year, they should win that division easy.
  2. Man, it be pretty cool if the Rockies or the Braves win the WC.
  3. QUOTE(Balta1701 @ Sep 25, 2007 -> 08:38 PM) And yet, when I post the exact same thing in the AG thread, I get ignored by everyone but Tex. I don't go into every thread. And some threads I stop visiting after someone makes me sick, if I'm not feeling up to barfing on them. So I wasn't ignoring you, my love.
  4. QUOTE(SoxAce @ Sep 25, 2007 -> 08:10 PM) Happy b-day sexy. Hope all is good Steff. She has quite the effect on us youngins, eh?
  5. "They call me Mr. Electricity because when I plug it in, I really turn you on!"
  6. I would call myself Mr. Electricity after that.
  7. Tomko to show Giants what they're missing Brett Tomko, who spent the 2004 and 2005 seasons in San Francisco, gets the start Tuesday night at 7:15 PT as San Diego stays firmly in the mix for a playoff spot. Tomko, who was signed too late to take part in the '07 postseason, will oppose Matt Cain. Full story > 4-11, 5.36 Ouch, babe. Someone's got a good sense of humor at MLB.com
  8. QUOTE(Jenksismyb**** @ Sep 25, 2007 -> 02:12 PM) Ike is offended by this post. As is Grant. As is Washington. I don't see why they would be offended. Most generals will agree that they're military men and not politicians for a reason.
  9. QUOTE(RockRaines @ Sep 25, 2007 -> 01:55 PM) Do you have to post everything in a smart-ass tone. The guy was called the most dominant pick of the draft. He obviously performed well. Why do you have to take everything to the extreme? I take things to extremes and you don't, ever. Right right right. Like the time you accused me of hating all Chicago coaches ignoring the fact that I Really, I just wanted to point out that Poreda did what is expected of him at that stage and it doesn't mean much of anything. You were talking about his dominance with one pitch as if it meant that he'd be able to carry that into the future. That simply isn't so. If Poreda can't develop good secondary pitches, he's going to grow up and be Matt Thornton. And I love Thornton's arm, or did before it lost some heat this year and hitters started lighting him up because they expected strikes, but that isn't a high ceiling.
  10. What Jim are we missing? JimH? Different Jim?
  11. QUOTE(RockRaines @ Sep 25, 2007 -> 12:13 PM) Well. I guess Poreda just dominated without a second pitch.... Others have been over it before. Most of the people in his league have never seen a fastball that fast. If you think it's testament to how good Poreda is that he did what first round draft picks are supposed to do, then by all means, he's hardcore. Pencil him in to the rotation shortly!
  12. Rice is a pro-choice pro-affirmative action black woman who is not married -- which in the eyes of the voters either means she's a lesbian or has no family values. Liddy Dole pretended that the blood banks weren't contaminated by disease. and she isn't half as good a candidate as her loser husband. (Red Cross, 1980s.) Colin Powell I've been over on this site -- I'll bet Clinton would have beat him and I don't care how many times Powell says, "My wife would kill me if I ran for President," that's not why he didn't run for President. Nobody who ever seriously considers it says No because "my wife said no." Powell knew he'd be annihilated by today's electorate (black, pro-choice, pro-aff. act.) and besides -- generals don't often have a place in politics. Wesley Clark was socially retarded in his campaign (if you recall, he even yelled at some kindergarteners -- not like, "OH, YOU s***HEADS" but raised his voice and forced one into his chair...huge no-nos!) and most generals are. They're military men, not politicians, for a reason. Maybe one day the Republicans will nominate a black man or black woman or both at once but it won't be any of these three.
  13. Umm, that's not going to happen.
  14. Ohhhh, oh, oh, oh, ohhh. It must have been cold there in my shadow, to never have sunlight on your face. You were content to let me shine, that's your way. You always walked a step behind. So I was the one with all the glory, while you were the one with all the strength. A beautiful face without a name for so long. A beautiful smile to hide the pain. Did you ever know that you're my hero, and everything I would like to be? I can fly higher than an eagle, for you are the wind beneath my wings. It might have appeared to go unnoticed, but I've got it all here in my heart. I want you to know I know the truth, of course I know it. I would be nothing without you. Did you ever know that you're my hero? You're everything I wish I could be. I could fly higher than an eagle, for you are the wind beneath my wings. Did I ever tell you you're my hero? You're everything, everything I wish I could be. Oh, and I, I could fly higher than an eagle, for you are the wind beneath my wings, 'cause you are the wind beneath my wings. Oh, the wind beneath my wings. You, you, you, you are the wind beneath my wings. Fly, fly, fly away. You let me fly so high. Oh, you, you, you, the wind beneath my wings. Oh, you, you, you, the wind beneath my wings. Fly, fly, fly high against the sky, so high I almost touch the sky. Thank you, thank you, thank God for you, the wind beneath my wings.
  15. QUOTE(Steff @ Sep 25, 2007 -> 08:34 AM) Not even root beer at this point!! All is well aside from the boredom, and I think my poor husband is going to kill me soon as being home all day finds me finding new projects for him to do. Thanks for the HB wishes.
  16. Obama lacks the right skin color. He can never win the American Presidency. I don't say that as a white racist gloating. I'm not full-white and I'm not gloating. Not racist, either. But that's the reality. Any declaration to the contrary is naiive at best.
  17. You weren't serious last time we had this discussion? About "Binnie"? Maybe I won't make the mistake of taking your pronunciations serious anymore. Thank you for the clarification.
  18. A northern black man can not win a general Presidential election. The electoral college and the nation's majority simply won't allow it. When you throw in his youth, inexperience and proneness to gaffes ("we will never use nukes" "let's go into Pakistan!") he is a dead man.
  19. No beer for you. I hope all is going well and happy happy
  20. QUOTE(southsider2k5 @ Sep 25, 2007 -> 07:39 AM) Sure, many of the same politicial views are held at Columbia that are held at many Madrassas... I don't know why that bothers me as much as it does. But I think that when you and Kap and mr. genius and whoever else say that, you forfeit the right to complain when someone draws an equally sleazy parallel from Bush to Hitler.
  21. QUOTE(fathom @ Sep 24, 2007 -> 09:33 PM) He had such a massive hitch in his swing. I don't know how they could have ever been confident he'd hit good pitching. At least we can take satisfaction from the isolated nature of that scouting failure.
