  1. QUOTE(Kalapse @ Sep 19, 2007 -> 05:51 PM) Wiebe's wife pretty much said that the 2 men took advantage of her elderly mother. That she told them they had to go elsewhere until her husband came home but once she left they were invited in by someone who really had no business doing so (her momma.) That's right. I believe she said that in the movie, too.
  2. Man, it's barely a few months old and we're already turning it into a remake? Jesus, this is a funny world.
  3. QUOTE(Buehrle>Wood @ Sep 19, 2007 -> 05:23 PM) I was finally able to watch King of Kong and I can say I'm impressed. It was a very good movie. Also read up on an EGM follow-up article to the movie and they describe some inaccuracies: 1. There was no actual break in into Wiebe's garage(Which the movie does not directly say, but certainly infers). Kuh and Rodgers were actually welcomed in to wait for Wiebe and were even given quarters to play the game. 2. The fuzzy tape was approved the day it was seen...only to be taken down the next day and Wiebe again was recognized as the record holder. That is until 240 days later when the fuzzy tape was approved again and Mitchell was again the record holder. 3. Mitchell actually did go into the restaurant with his family to greet Wiebe. He didn't ditch him as it turns out. 4. The fact that Mitchell doesn't play publicly was pretty much put to rest. Mitchell had actually even played against Wiebe before the filming had started(Although it was on an emulated machine and therefore considered not competitive). Mitchell is quoted on saying he wouldn't play in Florida because he hadn't played in over a year and was only on a 3 day notice. Who knows though. With regard to four, they played "together" but not quite. As for three, that's interesting. One? They didn't break in but nobody ever said they did, implications be damned, and Mitchell definitely sent them to try and look for something, anything to discredit Wiebe.
  4. You know, it seems like every day I hear someone complain that Ozzie Guillen
  5. QUOTE(southsider2k5 @ Sep 19, 2007 -> 02:21 PM) What is really crazy is that no team will lose 100 games this year. Strange. I guess parody has arrived in MLB. Parody? What's funny?!
  6. QUOTE(Middle Buffalo @ Sep 18, 2007 -> 02:27 PM) It should be branded, then sent to Cooperstown. I'd love to see if they'd display the ball with an asterisk on it. THAT is what I'd do.
  7. Let's see where he ends up at the end of the season before we start to proclaim him a new man.
  8. Garland, Danks and Contreras have been very shaky.
  9. I was clearly being facetious, but I will admit that the great Gavin Floyd has put up more quality starts than I predicted. Good for him. Unfortunately for Floyd, he's still allowing baserunners at a terrible rate, his control hasn't been hot and he's had significant circumstances tip in his favor of late that have little to do with him. Is he for real? I don't think so. We'll have to wait and see, I guess, if he can be good in his next start, if he makes a start after, and whether or not he can win a job that's been once again gift-wrapped for him next Spring Training. I wouldn't have mentioned the terrible Gavin Floyd and was in fact going to keep from mentioning it but Kap had to prompt it and who am I to deny that Gavin Floyd sucks?! But really, I'm happy we've found our Opening Day starter next year. How can we lose?1
  10. QUOTE(greasywheels121 @ Sep 19, 2007 -> 12:14 PM) I love it more than I can say.
  11. QUOTE(RockRaines @ Sep 19, 2007 -> 11:06 AM) I knew you had a thing for me Greg. Its in digital 8 form. I actually have more than one. And both retarded girls let me keep them. I could of also always been a dick, especially since one of them was the worst break up id ever had. Luckily im not like that for them.
  12. QUOTE(RockRaines @ Sep 19, 2007 -> 11:04 AM) Yeah, cause he won a title with the sox. You also see alot of other players shirts that we all want to get rid of. It makes no difference Yeah. But the point I make is, Sox fans on the message boards have big issues with Ozzie and Podsednik but at the ballpark? Ozzie has a significant amount of support and Podsednik's shirt sells a ton. In everything there's a huge, interesting difference between the thoughts of the elite and the masses. Like Teddy Roosevelt, who the elitist thought belonged in a bar but the public loved. Scott Podsednik is Teddy Roosevelt. And I only brought up Teddy as a joke-analogy, although the analogy does stand.
  13. QUOTE(kapkomet @ Sep 19, 2007 -> 08:35 AM) Floyd sucks. I thought I'd let Ozzie's continued skepticism speak for itself. And I didn't want to make the point that, hey, KC has very little power and one of their more "potent" bats, Alex Gordon, wasn't in the lineup, but I wouldn't want to take anything away from Gavin Floyd. If you take the little he has he goes away with nothing, so he can celebrate the fact that his outing teetered on disaster a hundred times and that he got hit pretty hard by a punchless Royals team. Good for him, though, he reached the "quality start" qualification.
  14. Hypothetically? Yes. This team can compete next year. A resounding hypothetical yes!
  15. QUOTE(southsideirish71 @ Sep 19, 2007 -> 10:09 AM) Please dont use the gaggle of 13 year old girls at the Cell with Mrs. Podsednik shirts as the pulse of Sox fans. No. That's a cute way to disparage Podsednik but he has a lot of male fans at the cell and the place goes nuts for him. Sure, there are a lot of teenage girls who like him but a lot of guys have Podsednik shirts and jerseys at the ballpark. It's kind of a weird phenomena.
  16. I love the Israeli military and spy service.
  17. I don't feel bad for the kid but I worry about tasers someday giving someone a heart attack. But this kid? Nah. I'd give him a good taze, too.
  18. That's something I've never understood. Wrigley? It's a no-pressure environment. Sure, they've never won anything -- or might as well have never won anything -- and the fans love to be there at the ballpark and are more than happy to say, "Next year." Red Sox fans? They want it real bad. Yankee fans? Real bad. Met fans? Well, they want it too, but they're not as hardcore. The media is still the NY media, though. The LA teams? I don't know what kind of heat they get but it's California, with several teams and two teams in the city, with fair success. Sure there's pressure, but it isn't huge. And chicago? What kind of pressure do we have on the southside of Chicago? What's the big difference between playing in Chicago? It's softer than NY, that's for sure. It's got alright ballparks. The fans are fairly forgiving, even though Sox fans will boo you every so often, but they don't all that much. I remember Buehrle getting booed once last year, against the Angels when he balked in runs and gave up three solo homeruns, but even that was minimal. We generally support our players fairly well. (Not necessarily on SoxTalk, but at the ballpark. Scott Podsednik is God at the Cell. Here? He's a dog, judging by the comments.) I mean, what are people talking about when they talk about different it is to play here?
  19. QUOTE(Tony82087 @ Sep 18, 2007 -> 11:16 PM) Because there not the Braves.... They have some outstanding players in Holliday, Atkins,Tulowitzki, and after watching and getting close to them in Spring Training the last three years, it's fun to watch them succeed. I just have a spot for the Rockies after spending time at Hi-Corbett. I like the Rockies. I once said here that it's a shame Todd Helton will never make the Series with them. Yeah, they've got good young players, just checking. Although they haven't got a prayer this season.
  20. QUOTE(RockRaines @ Sep 18, 2007 -> 05:44 PM) so you are saying you havnt been waiting for mine to break? Post it.
  21. QUOTE(southsideirish71 @ Sep 18, 2007 -> 08:17 PM) Garbage in, garbage out. I just think you drink too much.
  22. QUOTE(Tony82087 @ Sep 18, 2007 -> 08:07 PM) I don't have a memory like Pratt or anything, but I really can't remember the last time I saw a Thome base running blunder... I remember a few. He's not terrible out there, but he's had some errors.
  23. QUOTE(southsideirish71 @ Sep 18, 2007 -> 07:58 PM) I always remember things like the first day I met my wife, the birth of my 2 children, and course the Konerko slam in the series in person. However that phrase doesnt come to mind when remembering the Freaking KC Royals playing a team outside of the whitesox. Well, I have a greater memory, I guess, so I can fit all sorts of things into it.
  24. I'll always remember rolling over, half asleep, having fallen asleep with the TV on the Red Sox Royals game on to start the 2007 season, waking up and seeing Buddy Bell come to the mound and celebrate with Gil Meche as they had the biggest smiles on their faces that I've ever seen a player and manager have on the mound. It was a beautiful sight, especially since I'd just woken up.
