4/17 GT: Sox @ Indians, Peavy v. Westbrook
TitoMB345 replied to Disco72's topic in 2010 Season in Review
QUOTE (fathom @ Apr 17, 2010 -> 05:33 PM) Screw that, Quentin has to be smarter than that. STOP SWINGING AT THE FIRST PITCH! Our hitters continue to play right into the opposition's game plan. That's something Walker deserves criticism for. This is part of the reason why baseball just doesn't top football for me. In the NFL, if you blatantly didn't listen to your coach, you would get benched. Apparently, in the MLB, whatever coaches say are just suggestions that hitters don't have to listen to if they feel they know better. -

And it worked to a T. Nice pitching that inning by the Indians. By the way, the Indians are the only team in the AL with a lower BA. Going into this game, we were batting .220 and they were batting .216. -

I just heard an extremely audible "s***!" on the Fox broadcast of the Cardinals game. Ha. And yes, we scored! Finally! -

That one was outside the zone for Gameday, called a strike. -

That was a really nice inning right there. We could use a few more of those. -

QUOTE (BigSqwert @ Apr 17, 2010 -> 05:21 PM) I'm amazed that anyone still has optimism when watching this team. This offense is epically terrible. I can't recall seeing a team this inept. A lot of you are Bears fans, no? You should be used to this.. Ha, okay, I'm gonna get grilled for that, but come on, the Bears had some bad teams in the last 20 years. -

QUOTE (fathom @ Apr 17, 2010 -> 05:14 PM) He was throwing in the 91-92 mph range last year also. But speed isn't everything. -

QUOTE (fathom @ Apr 17, 2010 -> 05:11 PM) I have a feeling this is what his stuff is. It's serviceable, but no longer Cy material. Really? I don't know if I believe that. What was last season then? Just leftover juice? He had some awesome stuff those 3 starts last year. The movement on some of his pitches was baffling the hitters. I think Peavy is going to be fine. 3.5 ERA, 200+ K's. -

QUOTE (Soxbadger @ Apr 17, 2010 -> 05:10 PM) Peavy doesnt have his best stuff, but hes through 4 giving up only 1 run. Sox have hit the ball hard, unfortunately most have been right at people. Yeah, Peavy is definitely doing okay from a stats standpoint. He's keeping us in this game for sure. It's up to the offense to get some hits here now, but then again, it always has been. -

QUOTE (EvilJester99 @ Apr 17, 2010 -> 05:07 PM) Score?? How badly are we looking this wonderful day? 1-0 Indians. We have 2 hits, and 2 GIDPs. I am just following on here and Gameday, but it seems like Peavy is pitching pretty poorly again. Oh and Westbrook has 42 pitches through 4 via a 5-pitch inning in the top of the 4th here. -

QUOTE (Soxbadger @ Apr 17, 2010 -> 05:04 PM) If it was a sinker, it was a sinker right down the middle above the knees. Regardless it was going to be a strike and he may not have seen a better pitch that at bat. Its one thing if they are swinging at bad pitches out of the zone, but come on you gotta swing the bat at good pitches. CQ and PK are supposed to drive the ball and some times that means swinging at early pitches that are good to hit. But you CAN'T let a pitcher like Westbrook have a 5 pitch inning, regardless off whether or not it was a good pitch to hit. That too is something these guys HAVE to be considering. I don't care what you say, the 5 pitch inning should never happen. -

I wonder what Hawk is doing right now. Since hes not broadcasting the game, hes probably just freaking out. Do you think hes really like his TV personality all the time? Does anyone know him? -

QUOTE (Soxbadger @ Apr 17, 2010 -> 05:00 PM) Yeah CQ and PK shouldnt be swinging at mediocre fastballs down the middle! According to gameday, PK's first pitch was a sinker. Probably wrong though, or Paulie would've had to have been way under it. Also said Beckham saw 2 straight curves. -

QUOTE (TitoMB @ Apr 17, 2010 -> 05:00 PM) Westbrook and Talbot are about to blow my mind. This is just absolute mastery at pitching. Never before have I ever seen such pure dominance in two games in a row. Crap, did I really just post this? I think I'm turning into the Incredible Hawk or something.. -

QUOTE (fathom @ Apr 17, 2010 -> 04:55 PM) I just get so frustrated that we let our worse hitter continue to get the most plate appearances. Sadly, I have little faith in Ozzie to ever bench or move his slappy crush from the leadoff spot. Yeah me neither. Ozzie is one of the most stubborn managers I've seen. It's his way, and his way only. -

QUOTE (southsider2k5 @ Apr 17, 2010 -> 04:53 PM) It is probably pretty low. IIRC pitch counts have risen in modern times by a decent amount. Yeah, if this is recorded somewhere, it probably is from pre-1920s or something. -

QUOTE (beckham15 @ Apr 17, 2010 -> 04:49 PM) This offense is horrible i just wonder how long this will last for Truly, I think this issue is deeper than just the players on the field. Something that probably can't be fixed within a single season. If/when someone in this organization (i.e. Jerry) decides something needs to change, I think it ends up being a large turnover. -

37 pitches through 3 for Westbrook. What's the least number of pitches throw in two consecutive CGs? I wonder if this is even a recorded stat somewhere. -

QUOTE (southsider2k5 @ Apr 17, 2010 -> 04:45 PM) Not even close actually. Obviously a little exaggeration, but for a guy like Peavy, that would be how he throws BP.
