  1. QUOTE(Kalapse @ Aug 9, 2006 -> 11:37 PM) It was 4/21, I have the game saved on my Tivo but it has 4/22 as the date on there so I went with that. I'm actually watching it right now, Santana was shutting the offense down until Thome popped it into the bleachers. Ah, I wish I had TiVo.
  2. QUOTE(ceffa2000 @ Aug 9, 2006 -> 11:36 PM) The original Jab at Thome strikes me as a little of what I hear constantly out here about ARod. Always "What have you done for me lately?" and conveniently forgetting the past. How long until Konerko strikes out in a big situation and we forget the homer against Rivera last night? Just a joke. . . . . Granted ARod stills sucks but it still reminded me of it a little . . . Are you sure about that? He sucks? Hmm.......
  3. QUOTE(fathom @ Aug 9, 2006 -> 11:35 PM) No, the game in which Buehrle faced Santana ended up being a 7-1 final. Huh? That was 4/21. 4/22 we beat up on Radke.
  4. On 4/21, Thome broke the ice with a two run bomb off of Santana in the 6th, to put us up 2-0. We eventually won 7-1, with Beuhrle going 8 and only giving up 1.
  5. QUOTE(fathom @ Aug 9, 2006 -> 11:31 PM) Are you sure about that? I thought the homer made it 2-0, and we eventually won 7-1 in that game. Hmm yeah, on 4/22 we beat up on Radke pretty bad. He had 6 ER in 5 IP, but Thome did hit a 2 run homer.
  6. QUOTE(Kalapse @ Aug 9, 2006 -> 11:29 PM) On 4/22 Jim Thome took Johan Santana deep in the bottom of the 6th inning with the team down 2-1, it put them up 3-2 which turned out to be the final score. So yeah, Jim's had about 6 clutch HRs this year just off the top of our collective heads but he's not clutch. Could not agree more. Saying anything about Thome's clutchness is just absolutely ridiculous. And that's coming from one of the most hated posters in the last few months, although I am trying to work passed that.
  7. QUOTE(fathom @ Aug 9, 2006 -> 11:27 PM) Sure, I would like to see Thome come up with more hits against closers. However, there has to be a line you don't cross when complaining after a game. Thome, PK, Dye, and Crede have earned the right to not receive crap after every play they do. Wholeheartidly agree with that. Sure, we can get angry with an AB every now and then, but claiming these guys are not clutch enough, or are a reason for our overall stuggles is just absurd.
  8. I agree, I don't see how you can't vote for Crede. He has atleast 17 RBIs that have been go-ahead RBIs.
  9. QUOTE(Dan Pasqua @ Aug 9, 2006 -> 11:23 PM) First of all, I dont know what that first part of your post means But 3 out of 34 homers doesnt sound too convincing. Secondly, if you have to go back to April before you can remember a time where he came through for us in the clutch, there is a problem there. And hes hasd plenty of opportunities April?? What are you talking about? We've given you PLENTY of examples. The one against the Cards was in the last week of June, I want to say around June 25th, although I could be off. I just know it was June. Are you not reading any of the posts in this thread?
  10. QUOTE(Dick Allen @ Aug 9, 2006 -> 11:21 PM) Didn't Thome also have big pinch hit homers against the Cubs on that Saturday game when AJ went deep in the 9th to win it, and against the Reds? That is also true, the pinch-hitter against the Cubs. I do not recall the Reds game though... and what was the game on 4/22? I don't remember that one either. So, we are up to 5, possibly 6 games where Thome has hit a big homer?
  11. QUOTE(greg775 @ Aug 9, 2006 -> 11:19 PM) I agree with Fathom here. However our bullpen also can be mediocre to s***. I can't the people who wanted Garland out of there can't agree that the bullpen also likely would have sucked. Oz can't win either way. It's not like these bullpen guys are studs. Maybe it's because the bullpen is so used to coming in with runners on? It's a LOT harder to pitch with a runner on first. MacDougal and Thorton always seem to do great when they come in to start the inning, but the runner on first/second/third seems to throw them off. They seem to focus on them, and then they make a bad pitch and let the guy score. I think if Ozzie would start the inning with the relievers, they'd be a lot better off.
  12. QUOTE(Dan Pasqua @ Aug 9, 2006 -> 11:16 PM) Im not blaming Thome. Yes his numbers are very indicative of a great year statistically. However, he reminds he of sammy sosa when with the cubs. Great numbers statistically if not better, but when it came to teh clutch, he was no where to be found. And if you remember those years, these two players seem very much a like IMO I'm sorry, but I just don't agree. I don't think Thome is the greatest clutch hitter in the game, but he is not "no where to be found." I mean, we've given 3 examples now of how this just isn't true. I guess we just don't agree.
  13. QUOTE(ceffa2000 @ Aug 9, 2006 -> 11:14 PM) I wholeheartedly agree. Its a slight upgrade on defense, big upgrade in batting and who the hell cares about base stealing? Pods hasn't been stealing bases since the ASB. While he's not your prototypical leadoff hitter, its not like Pods has been tearing the cover at all. Exactly! Ozzie has this obsession with "speed at the top," but Podsednik just ISN'T "speedy" anymore. Everytime he gets on base, it seems like he gets picked off or caught stealing second. A couple of the recent ones were just embarassing too. He just isn't getting that read he was getting pre-injury last year. It's just too bad that Ozzie doesn't get it.
  14. QUOTE(fathom @ Aug 9, 2006 -> 11:11 PM) Why not give Gload a chance to play LF? There's no chance he can be worse than Pods or Ozuna out there. Those guys can only catch fly balls hit directly at them anyways. Even Pods today said his arm is awful. However, Ozzie said he's the best we have out there, so he'll keep playing. I have no problem giving Gload the chance either. I just think we HAVE TO get Pods and Ozuna out of there, no matter what. They just aren't getting it. Why is Ozzie so stubborn? Seriously, I just don't get why he settles for crap like Mackowiak in center and Podsednik in left. I sit here, stunned, so many times, by the boneheaded moves that Ozzie makes, and keeps making. It hurts my head after a while.
  15. QUOTE(Dan Pasqua @ Aug 9, 2006 -> 11:11 PM) Nice numbers but can you name the last time he got a clutch hit for us at a crucial time? I watch every game and it seems like every time he comes up late in a game and we need a homer or hit, he doesnt do anything If u know a time when hes come through when needed..Please refresh my memory Most likely not the last one, but the solo homer against the Cards was a game winner. 8th inning I believe (possibly the 7th) and our only hit of the game. That was HUGE.
  16. QUOTE(ceffa2000 @ Aug 9, 2006 -> 11:08 PM) Agreed. But Pods looks like he's swinging a spaghetti noodle up there. BA is average at best lately. And while AJP has been hitting well, it doesn't seem like he's hitting well w/ RISP lately. He seems to be swinging at a lot of bad pitches and its just frustrating. Podsednik has to go, and its frustrating because I, and many others, think we have the replacement sitting right on the bench: Rob Mackowiak. The guy is a killer against righties, and I think he can play LF much better than Podsednik, as it is the easiest outfield position to play. Sure, he's not your prototypical leadoff hitter, but Pods is just plain terrible right now. It's a move that makes sense.
  17. QUOTE(southsideirish71 @ Aug 9, 2006 -> 11:07 PM) We dont use him in the rotation because our manager thinks he is horrible. Right, and I think Kenny needs to get Ozzie in a meeting, and show him some numbers. If Ozzie seriously thinks McCarthy sucked last year, then he should be commited.
  18. QUOTE(ceffa2000 @ Aug 9, 2006 -> 11:04 PM) For KW pushing for the here and now, I have to wonder why he wouldn't push for BMac in the starting rotation. Especially after umptillion trade offers and his performance in the second half of the year in 05. Thats what I don't get. We list McCarthy as untouchable, and there is no way we trade him, but we use him out of position all year, when he could be easily hold his own in the rotation. It just makes zero sense.
  19. QUOTE(Dan Pasqua @ Aug 9, 2006 -> 11:02 PM) Cant agree more with the Thome comment. He cant get a clutch hit to save his life. May sound crazy but Id rather have ross gload hitting in that situation than Thome. Solo homer in the first inning is not gonna do anything for us. AHHH hes so frustrating Old cliche. "Dont tell me what you hit, Tell me when you hit it" I think blaming Thome is way off base here. Look at his statistics, he's having a monster season. Without Thome, we aren't .5 games up on the WC (or maybe .5 back, if the Twins won). What about the 7-8-9 today? Bases loaded, no out, and we get three straight outs? Thats bad, bad news.
  20. QUOTE(fathom @ Aug 9, 2006 -> 11:00 PM) Our starting pitching sucks, as does our LF and CF position. If we can get some improvements from those positions, we're going to play better baseball. The saddest thing about it? We have a replacement for LF (Mackowiak) and we have a replacement for one starter (McCarthy) but our management is just way too stubborn to make any moves. Podsednik is a god in this town, for unknown reasons.
  21. QUOTE(BigSqwert @ Aug 9, 2006 -> 10:45 PM) He has no business getting thrown out there for the start of the 7th with over 100 pitches already. Then Ozzie decides to pitch to Ghey-Rod with 1st base open. Ozzie is really grinding my gears. Another case of Ozzie not knowing whats going on? Goodness.
  22. QUOTE(fathom @ Aug 9, 2006 -> 07:44 PM) I never thought I'd see the day where Randy Johnson pitches around Joe Crede. Congrats Joe! Well, with AJ on deck, I don't think its that dumb, but yes, Congrats!
  23. QUOTE(BigSqwert @ Aug 9, 2006 -> 07:42 PM) DJ picked AJ. Didn't even see that, just saw Thome and laughed. :P
  24. QUOTE(BigSqwert @ Aug 9, 2006 -> 07:35 PM) That jerk off Yankee fan we're hearing is annoying. I know, I'm hoping they switch mics so we don't have to hear his crap all game long. Thome PTC against a hard-throwing lefty? I don't know about that one Hawk...
  25. QUOTE(fathom @ Aug 9, 2006 -> 07:32 PM) Their team speed is just killing us so far. We seem to give up a lot of doubles on plays like that because our LF are playing on the warning track. Its because our LFers are terrible at judging balls, and its easier to run in on it, so they always play back to keep things over their heads. It's terrible, but since we don't have any good LFers, we basically have to live with it. We NEED to acquire a good, solid LF in the offseason.
