  1. Sox go 3-3 over their last 6 against TB and KC.
  2. QUOTE(fathom @ Sep 3, 2006 -> 03:51 PM) I thought he sucked last year. However, when you have amazing starting pitching and a bullpen which is untouchable, any manager will get good results. Putting Marte on the playoff roster instead of McCarthy was moronic. Ozzie's use of Marte last year was horrendous. He regularly used Marte before Cotts, even though Cotts was one of the best lefty relievers in the game last year.
  3. QUOTE(Texsox @ Sep 3, 2006 -> 03:41 PM) Wrong board shoota, we use green here Excuse me. Now I know.
  4. QUOTE(fathom @ Sep 3, 2006 -> 03:36 PM) I wish Ozzie would have stuck to his word and quit after we won the World Series.
  5. QUOTE(Tony82087 @ Sep 3, 2006 -> 03:32 PM) Good call Oz. Lets make it a little harder for Neal. The guy is a gas can, so lets give him guys on base to work with. You're criticizing the wrong guy. KW is the one who gave Oz Cotts. HE HAS TO USE HIM! /severe teal
  6. QUOTE(TaylorStSox @ Sep 3, 2006 -> 03:21 PM) You can't run Jenks and Thorton out there every day. He had to use Cotts, Riske and Politte. There's really no proof that McCarthy would have been any better than anyone else. It isn't like he's Liriano. I'm a big fan of McCarthy, but he's still an unproven commodity, as a starter. It's not exactly like he played his way into the rotation during the first half. It's not like his stuff is so great that it's a no brainer. Ozzie pitched the guys that have been available to him and they've failed. It's not that I was suggesting OG pitch Jenks, Thornton and BMac every day, but that OG doesn't understand when to use his best relievers. For instance, the recent game the Sox lost when the first two pitchers he brings out in a close game were Cotts and Riske. OG has misused his long reliever all season. Jerry Manuel did an excellent job with Sean Lowe, his long man in 2000. That's how BMac should have been used out of the bullpen if OG wasn't going to start him. ______ We'll never know if McCarthy would have pitched better than any one of the Sox starters, but it's still a mistake for not trying. Since everyone knows the starters have been very bad, it's foolish not to try to fix the problem with an in-house pitcher who was a dominant starter in limited time the season before.
  7. QUOTE(fathom @ Sep 3, 2006 -> 03:19 PM) I disagree. Ozzie's reluctance to ever pull a starter early has done nothing to help the fatigue from last year's inning toll and the fatigue they've had this season. It's amazing how bad the starters have been considering there's only been one DL stint between all of them this year. We agree. By stating he's misused the bullpen, I also meant that OG hasn't used it enough. There were dozens of games where I thought OG left his starter in too long.
  8. QUOTE(TaylorStSox @ Sep 3, 2006 -> 03:08 PM) Ozzie managed the same way last year. This year the pitching, for the most part, sucks. All of the adjustments in the world aren't going to change that. Some believe McCarthy would have pitched better than at least one of the starters. So that's one adjustment Ozzie could have made that would have improved this year's pitching. I understand your point that there's nothing Ozzie could do to improve the performances of his starters, but he could have made adjustments to other facets of the team that would have lead to more victories: starting BA in center more often, Mack in LF, and his poor use of the bullpen and Cotts, Riske and Politte.
  9. QUOTE(southsideirish71 @ Sep 3, 2006 -> 03:05 PM) How about the team. Can we worry about the team getting the W, I could care less which pitcher gets the W as long as we do. I was being sarcastic and forgot to use teal. I definately value the team's W more than Freddy's.
  10. QUOTE(fathom @ Sep 3, 2006 -> 03:04 PM) That's actually a great point about adjustments. Ozzie's idiotic quotes in today's paper show just how stupid he is. We should thank our lucky starts every night that our starting pitching got on a roll in the playoffs. Tom Kelly disagrees with you. heh
  11. QUOTE(BearSox @ Sep 3, 2006 -> 03:01 PM) Uribe and Pods need to be benched, and Thome needs to sit until he is 100%, and get Gload, Cintron, Ozuna, and even sweeney into the lineup regularly. And Ozzie needs to stop leaving his pitchers in when they are obviously struggling, like right now. I disagree. You have to give them the chance at the W.
  12. QUOTE(fathom @ Sep 3, 2006 -> 03:00 PM) We'd just hire another buddy of Ozzie who would have no responsibility for his piss-poor decisions. A mi manera.
  13. QUOTE(southsideirish71 @ Sep 3, 2006 -> 02:56 PM) Next time we get a hitting coach, get someone from an organization that preaches OBP, and line drive swings. We keep dipping into our system that preaches swing for the fences. f***ing sad. Von Joshua?
  14. It's hard for me to criticize Thome for not hitting well when he's hurt. He's obviously not much of a help playing hurt, and a huge help when healthy, so OG needs to get him healthy.
  15. QUOTE(Texsox @ Sep 3, 2006 -> 02:15 PM) LOL + your sig. Is he hurt? He must be wearing a cup because he didn't even grimace.
  16. QUOTE(aboz56 @ Sep 3, 2006 -> 12:16 PM) • Monday: White Sox (RHP Jon Garland, 16-4, 4.47) at Red Sox (RHP Julian Tavarez, 2-4, 4.90), 6:05 p.m. CT • Tuesday: White Sox (RHP Javier Vazquez, 11-8, 4.98) at Red Sox (LHP Kason Gabbard, 0-3, 6.35), 6:05 p.m. CT • Wednesday: White Sox (RHP Jose Contreras, 11-7, 4.23) at Red Sox (RHP Kyle Snyder, 4-3, 5.94), 6:05 p.m. CT Wow. Great pitching for Boston. Papelbon has shoulder problems so the Sox won't have to face him this series. I'm guessing Ortiz won't be playing either, and maybe Manny too. This is a considerably weakened Red Sox team.
  17. I understand and agree with the philosophy of "going with your best," but if your best isn't healthy, he's probably not your best option. I'd like to see Thome sit for a week especially with Gload hitting well. If the Sox are to repeat, I think they'll need good contributions from Contreras and Thome. Ozzie needs to make sure they're healthy as can be for October baseball.
  18. I'll always respect Julian Tavarez for flaming on the flaming Cubs fans when he played on the North Side.
  19. QUOTE(BearSox @ Sep 3, 2006 -> 08:59 AM) I hope Sweeney starts today. I really want to see him in some big leaue action. I know nothing about Sweeney, but I can't wait to see him and his sexy swing. Pick up win #80 today plz.
  20. Before the series with Tampa, many said 4-2 is the worst the Sox have to go if they are serious about the playoffs. After 5 games the Sox are 3-2 and need to win this game to meet the modest 4-2 goal.
  21. QUOTE(CaliSoxFanViaSWside @ Sep 2, 2006 -> 09:02 PM) Vlady hit dropped right in front of Maggs Leadoff Double by Carlos Guillen and comes up lame at 2nd. Uh oh.
  22. Someone mentioned that Ozzie managed a good game tonight and I echo that statement. Solid win over a solid team.
  23. QUOTE(SoxnGiants @ Sep 2, 2006 -> 08:26 PM) I think Ozzie's done a good job this game. Agreed.
