  1. In addition to the stated reasons Fields is the better choice over Crede in 2008, the Sox don't have to worry about attitude problems with Fields like they do with Crede. I doubt Fields would refuse to play winter ball at the request of his team like Crede did, or refuse to have offseason surgery if needed.
  2. QUOTE(BaseballNick @ Jul 24, 2007 -> 02:49 PM) Sweet sig JB. Thanks Nick. Glad you like it.
  3. QUOTE(BigEdWalsh @ Jul 24, 2007 -> 02:37 PM) 2-2 at the half-way point. I'm feelin' a Fields homer. WTF!
  4. QUOTE(BaseballNick @ Jul 24, 2007 -> 02:28 PM) Anybody know who was sent down for Pods? They placed Terrero on the DL.
  5. I don't think KW can trade Garland because of his injury. If KW were to trade Garland now, and his shoulder knot becomes worse, it would make KW an undesirable trading partner. Sirotka, Garcia and Garland? KW needs to keep Garland to ensure he has fellow GMs he can work with in the future. That said, I don't want him to trade Vazquez either, but for a different reason: Vazquez is good and has a decent contract. Trade Contreras if at all possible.
  6. I think Murton's a good player, and the Sox are in desperate need of outfield help for 2008, so a swap of the two makes sense to me. My only hesitation would be if the Sox would be able to draft two better prospects for Dye's compensation of turning down the team's arbitration offer. The Sox 2008 outfield: Sweeney, Anderson and Murton? EDIT: Murton in left because of his arm, Anderson and Sweeney.

QUOTE(Gregory Pratt @ Jul 23, 2007 -> 02:48 PM) People avoided him because he had a drug problem, drinking problems and attitude problems, including a history of violence. We didn't see anything in his arm that anybody else didn't see. We just needed him and took the risk on him, but we didn't see anything different that other teams didn't see. Don't forget about Jenks's injury history. I'm far from the most informed fan of players' personal lives, but I don't recall hearing Jenks had a drug problem? History of violence?
  8. QUOTE(zimne piwo @ Jul 23, 2007 -> 12:14 AM) Billy Pierce!!! Met him several times over the years at baseball card shows, total class act! Statue will be unveiled at tonight's game!!!!! http://chicago.whitesox.mlb.com/news/press...sp&c_id=cws I'll echo your opinion of Pierce. I met him at a card show as a little leaguer. Nice gentleman.
  9. Why would Bud Selig and the other MLB team owners deny Cuban the opportunity to buy an MLB team? If Cuban is as big of a Pirate fan as he claims, I'd think he'd have no interest in buying a much more expensive, rival team in the division of his Pirates.
  10. QUOTE(witesoxfan @ Jul 20, 2007 -> 12:49 AM) Dude, no. WTF did Guillen have to do with the garbage roster on the field? Now, for the more important topic at hand, Bonds is a god. Someone needs to change that 750 to 753. Lou Piniella knew how important the intracity series were. Guillen got outmanaged. I'm embarrased for him.
  11. QUOTE(Gregory Pratt @ Jul 19, 2007 -> 07:07 PM) The 1 Percent are probably people who were convicted, indicted or arrested improperly. Improperly convicted? If someone's been convicted, that'd count towards the 99% conviction rate.
  12. QUOTE(greg775 @ Jul 20, 2007 -> 12:47 AM) Paulie is making a bid to become one of the top five players in White Sox history. Frank is No. 1. IMO, Frank lost the chance to become a Sox great when he refused to participate in the spring training shuttle run.
  13. QUOTE(DonnyDevito @ Jul 19, 2007 -> 11:56 PM) tarnishing other team's playoff hopes and stressing out their fans is going to be a lot of fun down the stretch! Or not.
  14. QUOTE(WHarris1 @ Jul 19, 2007 -> 04:27 PM) f***, really wanted him to get up in the 9th. Questionable call on Roberts, but thats how its been going for the Cubs lately. Yeah, I counted two questionable calls on Roberts--the first two pitches he saw. I didn't watch much of the game, so perhaps the umpire was consistent with his low call, but normally that first pitch to Roberts is a ball. The second pitch was definitely a ball as it was inches from the inside corner. That said, even if both pitches were called balls, a 2-0 count doesn't guarantee Roberts gets on base. The Cubs are playing great and are only 3.5 games back of the Brewers. Too bad Ozzie Guillen led his team to a 1-5 record against the Cubs this year. Thanks Guillen.
  15. Watching Bonds get interviewed on ESPN with microphones in his face makes me wish Tom Green would approach him with his poo mic.
  16. QUOTE(Balta1701 @ Jul 19, 2007 -> 06:22 PM) The way this season has gone, they'll both somehow stay healthy and hit .250 or so from here on out. That way, they'll be just good enough to prevent Ozzie from benching them, but just bad enough to prevent their return from having any positive impact on the game on the field, while simultaneously preventing us from taking a longer look at either Owens or Sweeney in the show. If that happens, there's only one man to blame: Guillen.
  17. That's a great letter. I like the NFL QB part. bahaha
  18. QUOTE(Steff @ Jul 18, 2007 -> 03:33 PM) Even better.... "Between 2000 and 2005, 99 percent of the 435,000 federal criminal defendants prosecuted nationwide were convicted" http://www.pittsburghlive.com/x/pittsburgh...n/s_464095.html Wow, that's an impressive rate. With such a successful conviction rate, I'm curious to learn the details of how the 1% beat their cases.
  19. QUOTE(NorthSideSox72 @ Jul 18, 2007 -> 03:38 PM) He'll be convicted. He'll spend a few months in jail. He'll be suspended for the season or most of it. He'll come back for the 2008 season, and we'll have to endure all manner of "character" stories on the sports news outlets of Vick's comeback, how he is remorseful and ashamed and just trying to put it back together, blah blah blah. He'll be mediocre at best on his return, get frustrated within a season or two, and find some new way to be an asshole again. Then he will slowly, kicking and screaming along the way, fade out of the NFL. In 10 years we'll start to hear Gooden-esque stories of his troubles with the law, as he struggles to live outside the world of sports. According to a federal lawyer also on Rome's show, if a convicted federal defendant gets a 6-year term, he serves 6 years unlike state convictions. If Vick's convicted to serve a 6-year sentence, he's not getting off after 2 for good behavior. EDIT: With the conditions Vick is dealing with: potential 6-year prison term, ~1% chance of beating his case, he'd be best off minimizing his sentence by taking a plea bargain if one is offered. Of course that admits guilt and Goodall would then likely then suspend him upon release.
  20. Paulie's having another good year and is doing his job. I've kind of taken his performance for granted in this lost season.
  21. Msnbc.com reports Vick and 3 others will be in court July 26, which is the first day of Falcons training camp. A Sports Illustrated journalist said today on the Jim Rome radio show that Federal indictments have about a 95% conviction rate.
  22. QUOTE(Steve9347 @ Jul 18, 2007 -> 09:28 AM) Um, his career with the White Sox ended after the 2005 season. We won a World Series in 2005. Though Frank did not contribute much other than a ridiculous display of power over a three-week span and those two have nothing to do with each other.... I was quite happy with the way it ended. I think by using the word, "breakup" Thomas was referring to front office relationships and how he went to Oakland after the 2005 season, not anything to do with his or his team's play on the field.
  23. Dye's hitting markedly worse this year, injured and realizes how unappealing he's going to be as a free agent after this season. He's surprised at his own performance after having a career year just one year ago. Dye's shocked at his own declining play and mortality, and is desperate to sign a contract for career security. Coming off last season's career year, he was fine with KW's public decision to let him test the free agent waters; now during his 2007 decline, he's frustrated and panicking to obtain career security in case his performance doesn't rebound. I understand Dye's thinking, just wish he wasn't brooding publicly. He should keep it light--like his hitting.
