Thomas talks about the loose clubhouse in Oakland and how much he enjoyed that clubhouse. Thomas mentioned how much hitting 500 home runs means to him, and the warm response he received from the Minnesota Twins' fans who cheered when he hit it. Rome had a good knowledge of what went on during Thomas's time in Chicago, asking a really good question: "Some things were said on both sides when you left Chicago...are you going to have a good feeling about the years that you had in Chicago with the White Sox, or might there always be something of a bitter taste in your mouth because of the way it ended?" Thomas said his time with the Sox wasn't bitter, but the breakup was. He said we fans deserved much better than the way it ended. Talks a little about the Toronto team. Rome asked him about the Hall of Fame and notes what a great resume Thomas has. After Thomas left, Rome said he thinks Thomas is a Hall of Famer already.

I'm worried about the number of young women today who can't cook and clean. I'm tired of wasting my time dating girls who can't keep a house. Bring back home ec as a mandatory class for high school females in place of their science and math classes. Don't need to know geometry to bake me a cake.

I remember a thread like this last season, and I think most chose JGar or Dye. With the turnover from last season, I think the question can be asked again. I admittedly don't know much personal background of Sox players, but I'm going to guess Josh Fields is the team's best athlete based on his young baseball and impressive college football career.

I really like the camera angle of home plate Baltimore has. Unfortunately, ours was permanently altered by Brooks Boyer who caved in to one sign advertiser instead of protecting millions of Sox fans.

QUOTE(spiderman @ Jul 9, 2007 -> 09:43 PM) From the Chicago Tribune WebSite: Crede to start rehab in Arizona White Sox third baseman Joe Crede will start his rehabilitation program on his lower back this week in Arizona. That development was revealed Monday by agent Scott Boras, who declined to confirm whether his client would be ready to return by the end of the regular season. "The main thing is we want him back healthy and at full strength," Boras said. "The key is that we resolved a problem that Joe had been playing in a great deal of pain and seeing that the problem is not something that would affect his long-term future. That he's going to be a completely healthy player again is something we're really happy about getting accomplished." Boras said Crede's operation, in which fluid and small particles were removed from the area where nerves were irritated, was "a very easy fix and the doctor (Robert Watkins) is very optimistic about Joe's full return and just a matter of time in him going forward." After Crede was placed on the 15-day disabled list on June 6 and underwent surgery a week later, many Sox observers wondered why Crede didn't have off-season surgery to repair the bulging disks in Crede's lower back. But "the doctors all said they were against surgery because the pain level was symptomatic. The doctors recommended he not have surgery because he had a great season, played well and didn't affect his play," Boras said. "It was just the wear and tear of the season brought it to this level. Boras is such a lawyer. This following quote is bogus because Boras makes it sound as if Crede had a choice in whether or not to have surgery. Crede didn't have a choice because he was incapable of playing any longer! The key is that we resolved a problem that Joe had been playing in a great deal of pain and seeing that the problem is not something that would affect his long-term future. That he's going to be a completely healthy player again is something we're really happy about getting accomplished. Had Crede chosen surgery this past offseason, when he was still physically able to play, then Boras's quote would be accurate. Notice Boras made sure to say he didn't counsel his client against offseason surgery, or even that Crede made that decision, but that the doctors advised against it. HA! Boras, whose trying to make Crede sound as appealing to teams around baseball, calls the surgery "a very easy fix," mentions Crede's great 2006 and how because of the surgery he will be able to return to that form.

Getting Pods and Erstad back will be equivalent to KW trading for two bats for the playoff run.

Dan Patrick Leaving ESPN
shoota replied to Greg The Bull Luzinski's topic in Alex’s Olde Tyme Sports Pub
QUOTE(Greg The Bull Luzinski @ Jul 9, 2007 -> 04:26 PM) Actually Jim Rome was MUCH WORSE than Dan Patrick. I love the long pauses on the Jim Rome show when he had nothing to say. That was good radio. I've heard people rip his long pauses before, but Rome must have changed that in the past two years since I've been listening to his show. -
Dan Patrick Leaving ESPN

QUOTE(Greg The Bull Luzinski @ Jul 9, 2007 -> 03:07 PM) Story Hooray! Now if only they could get that bid fat turd Chris Berman to be back back back back gone with him too. I wonder what they will do with the dead air time on ESPN radio that went by the name "The Dan Patrick Show." Great news. We need Jim Rome on live in Chicago. -
Sounds like KW is too scared to lose trades in which he's the seller.

Official Love for the Milwaukee Brewers Thread

I've recently discovered am620, which broadcasts Brewers games. Uecker is an announcer. -
Since we have Anderson, no need to pursue Torii.
-
Starting from the top with a competent manager, Tom Kelly. Brian Anderson would be starting in center. Sweeney would get a look in LF. Crede'd be gone with Fields taking over. Contreras and Dye would be gone for sure. Erstad, Podsednik, Terrero, Cintron and Gonzalez would all be gone too.

Mark Buehrle Agrees to 4-yr, 56 mil with escalator clause

Thanks Mark for giving our team a home town discount. Thanks KW and JR for making the right decision and giving us fans what we want. -
QUOTE(RockRaines @ Apr 14, 2007 -> 06:17 PM) So instead of using a whole boatload of information on how to judge a manager, you prefer to look at a handful of decisions that did not work out for him. Why is that a better solution? For every late game decision Ozzie has had go wrong, he has had one go right. People who hate Ozzie only look at the ones that go wrong, you never look at the decisions that make the game a winner, because you expect every game to be a winner. Saying that a team wins despite a manager is a pretty retarded thing to say, and basically only amplifies your extreme bias against Ozzie and his managing. If you dont feel comfortable going by his stellar record, his ring as a coach and as a manager, or his players willingness to play for him, why dont you come up with a solution? Tom Kelly.

QUOTE(AddisonStSox @ Apr 14, 2007 -> 03:32 PM) No, no, I think your approach is far more logical. Let us psychoanalyze every move he makes during the course of the season, and pay no attention to the win totals, or his ring finger. You are most right. This is a very baseball savvy approach. Your philosophy of crediting Guillen reminds me of John Shoop's comment, "I'll let my record speak for itself," when asked about his questionable play calling. Sure, Shoop's record was good, but it was the defense that was mostly responsible for his record, not his play calling. Just like Guillen's players are mostly responsible for Guillen's ring and record; they win despite him (well, except in Oakland, when even they couldn't overcome Guillen's poor 9th inning outfield arrangement). I've been fair in my evaluations of Guillen. Unlike you, I point out his good moves and bad. If you want to discuss how to evaluate a manger, using win totals and rings is a poor way. Since some managers have more talented teams than others, it'd be unwise to judge them based solely on win totals.

Chicago wins the U.S. bid! -
Sox offense has been terrible. Even Dye looks bad at the plate. Sox had men on the corners, no out, and failed to score a run. Erstad couldn't get to a fly ball that would have been the third out of the inning. 1 run scored on that hit, 1 more scored later that inning. Many think BA would have caught it, keeping the score 2-0, instead of 4-0. Danks gave up 2 solo home runs and looked good outside of throwing a lot of pitches.

Will the 2016 host be announced now?

QUOTE(fathom @ Apr 14, 2007 -> 02:59 PM) Ozzie's love for Erstad is going to get so annoying. I like Erstad, but I have a feeling Ozzie will make me hate him like he did Mackowiak last year. Same here.

QUOTE(Kid Gleason @ Apr 14, 2007 -> 02:52 PM) Missed most of the game. I'm guessing it was a bad one? I know we lost (are about to), but did they look absent again? Sox offense has been terrible.
