  1. QUOTE(FlaCWS @ Apr 7, 2007 -> 10:26 AM) I was one of the few who thought re-signing Contreras was a mistake. I realize it's easy to bring it up now, after that disastrous first start, but if you think about it, the extension was based on a great 2nd half of '05 and 1st half of '06. Other than those two half-seasons, Contreras hasn't done much at all in the majors. I obviously hope I'm wrong on this, but I think we may see some more brief stretches of greatness, but never again will we see the consistency that he showed at the end of '05 and early last year. I do think he's done, and I wish the money we gave him (and Vazquez) was used to extend Buerhle and Garland instead. That's a really good point. I would gladly exchange the arms/health/careers of Contreras and Garcia for the 2005 World Series Victory. We can always get new arms, but never get a second chance. I guess you can add Hermanson and Politte to that list too.
  2. QUOTE(Wedge @ Apr 7, 2007 -> 10:25 AM) I dunno. Tune in this week for this and other exciting revelations on "As the Sox Turn"! EDIT: Also, why should Buehrle have been the Opening Day starter? I'm not saying I necessarily disagree, I just think you should justify such a bold statement. Because I'm assuming Buehrle would have given up less than 8 runs in 1+ innings.
  3. Contreras was injured in the second half of last season, likely for longer than his 15-day disabled list stay. Last season I suspected he was given a cortisone shot, although it went unreported if he'd received one. Contreras's Opening Day performance (Guillen should have had Buehrle start; another bad Guillen decision) was pitiful and makes one question if he's still less than 100%. I ask the question if his career as an effective pitcher is over in part because of injury concerns and performance, and in part because of his superannuated age.
  4. I look down on unathletic men. You know, the guys who tense up and turn their head when trying to catch a harmless object thrown to them. I've had experiences hanging out with guys I assumed were athletic enough, who acted otherwise and thus lost a bit of respect for. Like the disappointing, helpless feeling one feels when seeing kids without food in some s***hole, I feel the same for men starving of athleticism. Such a waste of life.

    I recommend Running Scared with Paul Walker and a spicy Vera Farminga looking much better than she did in The Departed.
  6. QUOTE(greg775 @ Apr 4, 2007 -> 11:48 PM) If the Sox had a horrific April and you were GM, would you be tempted to go young and tear it up? I know it's early but I think by the second week of May we're going to know if we've got a team this year or not. Yeah, especially with the young talent the Sox have and such a tough division.
  7. haha, fair enough. I'll admit all the positive comments about Vazquez this past offseason have given me hope he will turn it around.
  8. QUOTE(BearSox @ Apr 6, 2007 -> 11:39 AM) I don't want Javy to be skipped, because he is supposed to become our top guy, or something like that, and have some-sort of a breakout year. Based on fact or hope?
  9. I mostly listen to Farmer with Hawk and DJ on mute, but I'd rather keep Hawk to avoid getting a replacement like fake-voiced Len Kasper.
  10. QUOTE(southsideirish @ Apr 4, 2007 -> 01:23 PM) Possibly a lefty in the bullpen? If not that, how about McCarthy sucks out of the bullpen? How about McCarthy was an unproven rookie? There are 3 possibilities other than to speculate hispanic players over white players. I never said Guillen chose Marte instead of McCarthy because of race. I was showing how McCarthy over Marte was the better choice, regardless of Guillen's reasoning.
  11. QUOTE(southsider2k5 @ Apr 4, 2007 -> 01:12 PM) Its called having your cake and eating it too. Everyone would love to work for their first choice AND make a ton of money, but that isn't always possible. Don't you find it encouraging that the White Sox are his first choice?
  12. QUOTE(whitesox07champs @ Apr 3, 2007 -> 07:52 PM) I can make a case that Damaso's experience beat out Brandon's better statistics. And Damaso did pitch good in Game 3 of the WS. I am looking for you guys to back this up with better reasons than that! Ozney, if you can't admit Brandon McCarthy was the better pitcher than Damaso Marte down the stretch of '05, this thread is without value. Soon after naming his ALDS roster, Guillen was asked why he chose Marte over McCarthy. Guillen's response was that McCarthy had started a game close to the end of the season, so he wouldn't likely be available to pitch in the ALDS, unlike a rested Marte. Guillen proved that quote to be a lie (perhaps starting fans to find their own reason why Guillen chose Marte over McCarthy) when he failed to swap Marte for McCarthy on the ALCS and WS roster. Since McCarthy had the entire ALDS to rest, Marte pitched poorly in the ALDS, and Guillen STILL didn't swap players, reveals Guillen made that roster decision not on talent and performances, but on something else.
  13. QUOTE(Y2HH @ Apr 4, 2007 -> 11:39 AM) I'm as die hard as they come -- I simply dislike cold weather baseball. As a matter of fact, I hate cold weather everything except snowboarding, for obvious reasons of necessity. I like to enjoy my ice cold beer at the ballpark when I can sit there in shorts/t-shirt and watch the game...without having to hold said ice cold beer with my jacket over my hand. People ask me why I think global warming is more hype than end of the world cometh...go outside right now, and you'll see why. I'm picking up what you're throwing down; I hate cold baseball too. I'd rather save the cash for a warmer day I can enjoy outdoors.
  14. QUOTE(southsider2k5 @ Apr 4, 2007 -> 10:56 AM) http://www.rotoworld.com/content/playerpag...3937&spln=1 This shows Buehrle doesn't want to leave the organization, but wants a market-value contract.
  15. QUOTE(whitesox07champs @ Apr 3, 2007 -> 07:27 PM) I have heard a lot of people say on this site that Ozzie preferes Latin players than his other players. Can I please get some examples from you guys because I am completely baffled by this. Deteriorating Damaso Marte on the ALDS, ALCS and WS roster over Brandon McCarthy.
  16. QUOTE(Gregory Pratt @ Mar 31, 2007 -> 09:57 PM) Well, there's always talk about how Ozzie prefers Latinos, how Ozzie hates young players, how Ozzie doesn't know how to handle a team or a staff, so I don't know. Those theories have been professed on this site, but I don't see the connection between them and Guillen's quote: Ozzie Guillen is crazy. Ozzie Guillen has no common sense when he talks. Another thing is people think my players hate to play for me, and that's not true.
  17. Detroit and KC bread the division, so I can't argue with the Sox predicted anywhere from 2nd-4th place.
  18. QUOTE(Balta1701 @ Mar 29, 2007 -> 07:47 PM) He's Seattle's backup catcher. Was he traded? Did he become a minor league FA?
  19. Someone remind me what happened to Jamie Burke.
  20. QUOTE(BigSqwert @ Mar 29, 2007 -> 02:59 PM) What does that even mean?
  21. QUOTE(SoxFan562004 @ Mar 27, 2007 -> 12:07 PM) it's a hard sound clip to find. My friend who is great at internet searches hasn't uncovered it Any luck finding that clip?
  22. QUOTE(Jimbo @ Mar 29, 2007 -> 01:27 PM) , go move to Tampa then. The Sox play in Chicago.
  23. Thornton Iguchi Contreras (when healthy)
  24. I'm not a fan of Opening Day. It's colder than summer games, occurs during the day, Brooks Boyer jacked up prices specifically for that day, and too many people just there because it's the first game of the year.
  25. QUOTE(Jordan4life_2007 @ Mar 28, 2007 -> 11:39 PM) I'm not defending Ozzie or the move, but we did see this movie last year. Maybe they're not confident in his ability to get major leaguers out yet? Maybe they want him to get a little more run down at Charlotte? It's not out of the question. Your post is irrelevant because Guillen didn't say he was going with the players he's most confident in, but with the guys who earned it in ST. Choosing Sisco over Logan shows Guillen lied. QUOTE(Kalapse @ Mar 29, 2007 -> 12:00 AM) Oh I know there's people on this board who despise me because I b**** so damn much and you know what? I love to read them b**** about me b****ing, there's some just so b****in' about it. WORDS ARE FUN. And that is such bulls***, Flash b****es WAY more than I do. All that guy does is complain. Honestly, at this point I don't really have much respect for him anymore, basically in every way imaginable. I think he's earned it and he's lucky he did because no one is just handed my disrespect, the have to earn it on the playing field. I'm just going to go ahead and cross his name off now. McCarthy, Tracey, Anderson, Logan We'll never see him in a Sox uni again. I've had suspicion Guillen has disliked McCarthy, Tracey and Anderson based on personal issues, but I don't get the same feeling with Logan. I agree that Guillen lied to Logan and gave him a raw deal, but I don't know why Guillen doesn't like Logan. Do you? QUOTE(beautox @ Mar 29, 2007 -> 01:21 AM) i love the message were sending to the kids down on the farm, even if you post a 0ERA in spring unless your in with Ozzie, GTFO N00BZ0rz!!!!!!!!
