  1. QUOTE(santo=dorf @ Sep 11, 2006 -> 05:09 PM) .300/.457/.713 vs. .190/.264/.405 .290/.410/.620 vs. .268/.436/.535 .264/.371/.514 vs. .270/.357/.703 .299/.384/.621 vs. .276/.413/.540 .329/.453/.586 vs. .333/.443/.516 .258/.410/.581 vs. .395/.439/.947 (One Week sample) Those monthly stats tell me enough. 20 RBIs since the Break vs. 49 RBIs since the break. Thomas has more RBIs in your "one week sample" period (18) than Thome has in August and September combined (15). Which begs the question: Where have you gone Jim Thome, our city turns its lonely eyes to you?
  2. QUOTE(Hangar18 @ Sep 11, 2006 -> 01:06 PM) I'll be making that drive up to Cooperstown one day soon. Heres to Big Frank, future Hall-of-Famer There is no way I'll miss Frank's induction.
  3. QUOTE(witesoxfan @ Sep 11, 2006 -> 01:06 PM) Who taught Ben Weber how to throw like a douchebag? Regardless of who, it worked for a period of time. It doesn't matter sometimes. I'm sure he'll be an effective reliever at some point in his career...I just don't think there's any chance it will be with the White Sox at this point. The question is with which team's Triple-A affiliate?
  4. QUOTE(The Critic @ Sep 11, 2006 -> 10:32 AM) Is 11 RBI great? That's how many Frank had in April and June. He had 17 in May. He has also had the most in the AL since the all-star break.
  5. QUOTE(kyyle23 @ Sep 11, 2006 -> 09:34 AM) You must mean he was great... In April, May, July(.299/.384/.621), August, and now September. http://sports.espn.go.com/mlb/players/splits?playerId=2604 So, out of the 5 months that have been played, Thome has been "great" in 4 of them. Yeah, he was only great in April and May..... Howard is a statistical and physical freak. What an amazing talent 10 RBIs in the month of August is hardly great.
  6. QUOTE(Rex Hudler @ Sep 10, 2006 -> 11:00 PM) Let's not make that assumption too quickly. I know Warren Central is good, but don't forget the little team in Hoover, AL. It's a shame they can't play due to IHSAA rules. Hoover is willing to play the best and has done so. Hoover opened the season on the road beating Tulsa Union 34-7. Union is the two-time defending Oklahoma State Champion and ironically, the home of former Warren Central Head Coach Kevin Wright. Union had won 57 straight home games going into that game. Hoover has won 5 of the last 6 Alabama 6A state championships, losing in the championship game in the lone non-winning year. The win over Ben Davis this weekend was impressive, but what was strange to me is Warren Central only threw six passes, completing three. To be able to rack 500+ yards on the ground is impressive, but how balanced are they? Can they play from behind? I know all the hype that surrounds Hoover, but Warren Central has 4 big-time D1 recruits in their senior class. And who knows how many in the junior class. I didn't say they were better than Hoover, but I'd bet they are just as good.
  7. QUOTE(Rowand44 @ Sep 10, 2006 -> 11:45 PM) Well because he's been great, does that work? He's on the Sox now and he's having an absolutely fantastic season, that's probably why he gets so much man love from me. As far as Frank, good for him. I honestly don't care what he does, I know that's not the popular opinion around here but I couldn't care less what Frank is doing right now. He was great.....in April and May. He is nothing but a rent-a-player whose White Sox legacy looks to be that he was on the most talented White Sox team not to make the playoffs. He's an endnote in White Sox history. I just hope that when Frank's statue is unveiled on the outfield concourse, when his number is retired, and when he is inducted in to the hall-of-fame you don't revert to being a fan of Frank's.
  8. QUOTE(The Critic @ Sep 10, 2006 -> 11:19 PM) If all you looked at were statistics, you'd think Aramis Ramirez and Juan Pierre were having solid seasons, when the reality is they both let the Cubs down when they were needed most, and are padding their stats in a meaningless second half. Likewise, Jim Thome's spectacular April and May helped the White Sox win a lot of games that are now helping to keep them in contention despite a .500 second half, while Frank Thomas got off to a very slow start and then later heated up, helping the A's achieve their annual second-half outburst. If the Sox had Frank's slow start, who knows if the Sox would even be in third place? I don't know that, and neither do you, but the fact is that Thome's hot start was invaluable to the Sox's early success. Statistics are great, but they hardly tell the entire story. Thomas would also be single handidly winning games for the Sox right now, as he is currently doing for the A's. He has carried the A's in the last 40 games. Thome, when he plays these days, gets rbis in blowouts and losses, mostly. QUOTE(Rowand44 @ Sep 10, 2006 -> 11:32 PM) What stats are we talking about exactly? Because Jimmy has been better than Frank in every category. Anyways, Jim carried this team for a while, if we switched him and Frank than we're worse off right now, there is no doubt about that. Frank has carried the A's for a while. Why so much man love for a guy who will wear a Sox uniform for 2 years, tops?
  9. QUOTE(Rowand44 @ Sep 10, 2006 -> 10:34 PM) Jim Thome>Frank Thomas at the moment. Frank is having a solid season and good for him but we'd be worse off with Frank, no doubt about it. The statistics say that there is "doubt about it", despite what Rowand44 from Soxtalk.com writes.
  10. QUOTE(witesoxfan @ Sep 10, 2006 -> 08:55 PM) I'm largely just sick of people on this board jumping to conclusions for every player the Sox put in there. Give the kid a chance. Don't frickin destroy him because of one game in September. I would say that the patience of Sox fans with young prospects is shorter when the team is in the middle of a pennant race. And rightfully so.
  11. QUOTE(Rex Hudler @ Sep 9, 2006 -> 12:09 PM) For those of you in Indiana, how in the hell did Warren Central beat Ben Davis 76-7?? Was that a misprint? There is not a better high school football team in the country this year. Warren Central would stay with, if not beat, nearly anyone.
  12. QUOTE(witesoxfan @ Sep 10, 2006 -> 08:37 PM) Not a ton. Good stuff, funny looking delivery...he can be effective. He'll never be a closer, but JFC, give the guy a chance. Let him throw in some situations where he'll be comfortable, instead of a high pressure situation where he is where one mistake kills him. My turn. What, in your opinion, has Sean Tracey done to deserve any of the amount of flack he receives? He's pitched like 4 innings, got ripped apart and thrown under the bus by Ozzie for not hitting Blalock, and gave up a run in the 9th inning in a game he should not have sniffed on a day the offense took a s***. Don't blame Tracey, don't take any of this s*** out on Tracey, take it out on Ozzie. Tracey didn't meander his way on to the field, randomly find the pitcher's mound, and just start pitching...someone brought him into a game he should not have pitched in. I haven't ripped Sean Tracey, he is what he is.....a mediocre minor league pitcher. However, if someone else wants to take the time to bash him, I certainly won't jump to his defense.
  13. QUOTE(Balta1701 @ Sep 9, 2006 -> 11:24 PM) Will Matthew Broderick and Sally Field be in Wargames 2? How about Dabney Coleman or Barry Corbin?
  14. QUOTE(loltrain @ Sep 7, 2006 -> 10:04 PM) Ouch, too bad one of the Royals few great young players has went down, he was really quite exciting to watch. This especially sucks because the Twins have 4 let with the Royals and the Tigers have 6.
  15. QUOTE(santo=dorf @ Sep 10, 2006 -> 08:28 PM) Ummm, what? How exactly has Thome been struggling??? August: .329/.453/.586 September: .358/.410/.581 Thome's worst month was June when he went .264/.371/.514 Thome is a mercenary and will be remembered by White Sox fans in the same manner as Tom Seaver.
  16. QUOTE(witesoxfan @ Sep 10, 2006 -> 08:05 PM) With a third of the hype If Hafner played for the Yankees or Red Sox Chris Berman would rub one off every night fantasizing about Pronk.
  17. QUOTE(witesoxfan @ Sep 10, 2006 -> 08:16 PM) White Sox fans like to jump to conclusions, and they also tend to flock together. If one does, they all do. Pretty sad. I like what Tracey brings. I doubt he pitches another inning with the Sox all year, unless they're eliminated. What, in your opinion, does Tracey bring that any average AAA reliever couldn't also bring?
  18. QUOTE(CYGarland @ Sep 10, 2006 -> 07:43 PM) I highly doubt we will have a 4 game lead on Minnesota let alone Detroit going into that last series. If anything we will have a 1 game lead at best, and just hope to win at least 1 of those games........But as i look at the schedules right now between the 3 teams, this is how i see the season ending out.......For the Sox. 2-1 vs La, 1-2 vs Oakland, 2-1 vs Detroit, 3-1 vs Seattle, 2-1 vs Cleveland, and 1-2 vs Minny...That would give them a record of 93-69.......For Minny. 1-2 vs Oakland, 3-1 vs Cleveland, 2-1 vs Boston, 2-1 vs Baltimore, 3-1 vs KC and 2-1 vs Us. That would give them a record of 96-66, giving them the Division title IMO....For Detroit...1-1 vs Texas, 2-1 vs Batimore, 1-2 vs Us, 0-1 vs Baltimore, 1-2 vs KC, 1-2 vs Toronto, and 2-1 vs KC.....That would give them a record of 94-68 and winning the WC by the skin of their teeth........So basically it definitely will come down to that last series against Minny, and hopefully Gardenhire rests some of his regulars and we can win at least 2 of 3 to force a possible 1 game playoff against Detroit, or even sweep. Either way, it's going to be quite the nail biter that last weekend, to say the least....... I don't see Gardenhire resting any of his position players if the Twins have already clinched the division. Obviously he wouldn't start Liriano or Santana, which would be nice.
  19. QUOTE(rangercal @ Sep 10, 2006 -> 06:28 PM) Chad tracey is good in my book. Though, sean tracey sucks a ss Spencer Tracy is also good.
  20. The way Hawk talks about Anderson, Sweeney, Owens, and Fields isn't much different than this.
  21. QUOTE(Felix @ Sep 5, 2006 -> 07:05 PM) Pujols is, by far, the best hitter in baseball. In other words, yes. Travis Hafner is just as good as Albert Pujols.
  22. Party is over, White Sox. Way to capitalize on the Twins missing Liriano for a month.
  23. QUOTE(Gregory Pratt @ Sep 10, 2006 -> 12:14 PM) Bad news for baseball, too. It's always sad to see a great player go down. Unless its Barry Bonds.
  24. QUOTE(Balta1701 @ Sep 10, 2006 -> 06:52 PM) If I recall correctly, wasn't it quite a bit more complicated than that? I.e. to keep negotiating with Frank after the time his buyout was given, we'd have to have offered him arbitration, but the Sox were never going to offer him arbitration because salaries don't decline by 80% in arbitration, etc. This is misleading. Once the Sox bought out his contract, which I believe they did shortly after the World Series, he was a free agent. They could have signed Frank to a new contract before the abitration deadline without having to offer him arbitration.
  25. QUOTE(greasywheels121 @ Sep 10, 2006 -> 05:44 PM) No reason to harp on that. It wasn't going to happen with KW at the helm. I'm not happy that he's not finishing his career here, but all you can do is get over it. I'm not harping on it, I only brought it up to refute what you posted.
