  1. QUOTE(southsider2k5 @ Jul 13, 2006 -> 07:12 AM) Hmm.... Look, I am not sure when Brian Anderson kicked your pregnant sister, but people get way too caught up in the moment when evaluating what a kid is going to do in the future as a major leaguer. Its funny that you keep saying that Hawk is telling us what to think here, but think about this for just a second. -Kenny Williams traded Brians main minor league competition for the starting centerfield job, in Chris Young. He also traded away the starting CF at the major league level to open up a spot for Anderson in Aaron Rowand. -Ozzie Guillen has said on many occasions that Anderson is his starting CF, and that the team is better with him, than anyone else on this team in CF. Guillen has stood by Anderson repeatedly, with an emphasis that he has never cost him a game with his play, and how this is his guy in CF. Remember Ozzie isn't exactly shy about throwing people under the bus when he wants to do so. So are you going to tell me that Ozzie Guillen and Kenny Williams have no idea what they are talking about, and some kid on a message board knows more about talent evaluation and projection than they do? No I'm not saying that some kid on a message board knows more than them. (I'm 25, by the way) I am saying that Kenny Williams has been wrong before in regards to talent evaluation, which is something people like yourself conveniently ignore when you assure the rest of us that Brian Anderson will pan out, because, gosh darn it, Kenny says he will.
  2. QUOTE(SoxAce @ Jul 12, 2006 -> 10:45 PM) Hawk has nothing to do with why I like Brian. As a matter of fact, Hawk doesn't even say that much about Brian as it is. He might say something about his D every once in a while, but not too much especially since Brian doesn't play that much to begin with. I've seen him play in college, I'm watch his numbers in the minors in each level he's been at, and watching him play in the outfield (especially when your at a game) is always great. I'm not even gonna count the fact that he's very young, and actually makes the game more fun from just watching him, and when you see him smiling. When you see a kid who is a rookie (which everyone seems to forget about) look more mature out there month, after month you have to appreciate. I'm not saying I'm satisfied with his average now (who is) but to go far far down as he did, and to see that average go up to now the ".200" territory is just good to see for a rookie and also seeing the sox don't need help in the offensive category as it is makes it even more better for him not to do too much. I'm actually glad you added this sentence. At least your not as thick in the head as I thought. I understand all that. And, as I said, I'm willing to acknowledge that Brian might become a decent player. I hope he does. On the other hand, there are hundreds of young players over the years with the same attributes that you pin on Brian who never panned out. Why can't the Anderson fans on this site at least admit this possibility exists with Brian? Who's being thick-headed, me or them?
  3. QUOTE(Benchwarmerjim @ Jul 12, 2006 -> 07:31 PM) I didnt catch it ( I didnt start watching until the 6th inning) but maybe MLB thought they would have more eyes on the tv during the game instead of during a pregame show, thus more eyes being aware of what a great baseball player/humantairian/influence Clemente had when he was alive I agree with Hangar that the timing of the ceremony was a bit bizarre. Why not a pre-game, widow tosses the first pitch type of deal.
  4. QUOTE(SoxAce @ Jul 12, 2006 -> 10:22 PM) You got alot to learn kid (and if your not a kid, I apologize cause it seems you are from your post) I'm not the only fan of BA's on this site and I'll gladly back him up anyway possible. Noone said anything about him getting batting titles, hitting .300 for the season etc. But to say that Brian has show little improvement, with the bat is just foolish. I don't know if you know this but he is almost at that .200 mendoza line plateau (I know big whoop, but from where he was before till now is amazing) and has improved every single month in every category. For Brian it's basically all he can do is go up, and I'm glad he's starting to figure it out. He looks waaaaay more comfortable now, he's striking out less, and his disipline has improved (can take a walk better a week than Rowand could in a month) He's always had a decent eye, and now he's basically showing it more considering he's like 4th on the team in walks, which is good since he hasn't had as many at-bats as the other players. read my post again I said "around" doesn't mean he will hit that high, but it doesn't mean he couldn't eigher. He can drop off a bit, but he is improving, that is my point. A Fan of Brian Anderson? What has Brian Anderson done in a major league uniform to make you a fan of his? Other than treat a Cubs utility infielder like a red-headed stepchild. The gains that you talk of are minimal, and if you stopped letting Hawk tell you what to think, you would realize this. And I may have a lot to learn, you're right. But it sure ain't a punk 20 year old thats going to teach me. I should add that I hope Brian Anderson's second half causes me to eat a lot of crow. I just don't think that it will.
  5. And Chicago misses Shingo......the 2004 Shingo, at least.
  6. QUOTE(SoxAce @ Jul 12, 2006 -> 10:14 PM) I'm not expecting him to hit .333 the rest of this month but don't be surprised if he hits in the .275-.290+ then increase that though since that has been his current pace. I wrote that Anderson is 7 for 21 in June, which for the uninitiated is a .333 average. You replied with: QUOTE(SoxAce @ Jul 12, 2006 -> 10:05 PM) WTF? Have you seen his numbers each month. He has improved in every category each month through now. I expect him to hit around that average this whole month, then improve the next. He is finally settling in. So clearly you DO think he will hit .333 in June and then improve on that......being as that is what you posted about 9 minutes ago.
  7. QUOTE(SoxAce @ Jul 12, 2006 -> 10:05 PM) WTF? Have you seen his numbers each month. He has improved in every category each month through now. I expect him to hit around that average this whole month, then improve the next. He is finally settling in. His increases each month have been so minute that they almost don't merit any consideration. Also, you expect him to hit .333 all month and then improve on that in August? Would you like to make a friendly wager?
  8. QUOTE(DBAH0 @ Jul 12, 2006 -> 09:59 PM) Because Anderson has shown in the last month what he's capable with the bat, plus he's better defensively than Rowand, and he projects to be a similar player to say a Torii Hunter in his prime. You have to remember with young players, they're not going to produce instantly like Jeff Francouer did. He is 7 for 21 in July. Before officially proclaiming him "capable with the bat" I'd like to see success over a period longer than 4 or 5 games.
  9. QUOTE(Tony82087 @ Jul 12, 2006 -> 12:49 PM) So basically Anderson would be put on the bench for this season, filling out the 4th OF spot? Ya....no. Brian has shown consistent improvement every month, and I dont think it needs to be said how much higher of a celling Anderson has than Rowand. I do however have alot of interest in Flash,and he is my #2 target for KW to get(Lidge being #1, even though it wont happen with the Astros trying to contend) Flash would make the bullpen as strong, if not stronger than in 05. From the 7th on, having Thornton/Riske-Cotts/Flash-Jenks to shut the door is as good as anyone. With all due respect, why do you assume Anderson has a higher ceiling than Rowand. Because Hawk tells us he does? Because Kenny Williams tells us he does? Because he had a decent year in the minors in 2005? Road sides from here to Cooperstown are strewn with the corpses of failed young players that baseball GM's have assured would be impact players. What makes you think Anderson won't join them? I'm willing to concede that the real Brian Anderson might not be a .192 hitter. But I'm also willing to concede that he may be.
  10. QUOTE(Heads22 @ Jul 10, 2006 -> 12:31 PM) Why would SF sell their best pitcher while still in the NL west race? Anyone who thinks this Giants team will catch San Deigo is crazy.
  11. QUOTE(Gregory Pratt @ Jul 8, 2006 -> 01:06 PM) He....likes....Ann....Coulter..... Ah, well, nobody's perfect. Are you sure that wasn't Joseph McCarthy's myspace profile?
  12. The Red Sox will win by at least 4 runs today, you can bank on it.
  13. It would be nice to have one f***ing clutch hit this series.....one is all I'm asking for.
  14. QUOTE(kyyle23 @ Jul 9, 2006 -> 09:40 AM) I dont like the quote "opening a spot for Dustin Hermanson". I would be very surprised if Hermanson had anything left to offer. I agree. I think Bobby Thigpen has a better chance of resurrecting his career and helping the Sox this year than Hermanson.
  15. We were swept going into the all-star break last year, as we will be this year after Schilling shuts us out tommorow. Nice f***ing job this weekend, guys.
  16. QUOTE(wilmot825 @ Jul 3, 2006 -> 12:31 PM) Where has the lil hineybird been? Just hope A.J. makes the All-Star team and can throw that in Jays dumb face. Hopefully he's dead.
  17. The simple fact is if the White Sox continue to give up a run more per game than the Detroit Tigers, we will not win the A.L Central and we will have to battle with the Yankees, Blue Jays and Twins for a wild card spot. Based on last years success, people here may not want to admit this, but it is true. I've read posts stating that some adjustments here and a few tweaks there will fix our starting staff, but the problems have persisted the whole season concerning the starters' inconsistancy, with no end in sight. Keep posting to the effect of "Detroit can't keep it up" or "Santana and Liriano alone can't do it for the Twins" and you'll be in for a rude awaking when we are looking up at Detroit in September and engaged in a dogfight with the Twins for the wild card. We can't pound the s*** out of every team offensively and expect to have sustained success over 162 games and deep into the playoffs........ask the 2000 and 2003 clubs.
  18. How do you figure they won 2 of them? I believe the final was 15-11 yesterday, in favor of the Cubs. And 8-1 today, in favor of the Orioles.
  19. QUOTE(jphat007 @ Jul 3, 2006 -> 07:54 PM) The hard part is not who you trade for. The hard part is which highly paid player do you try and convince to move to the bullpen? If this is the route the Sox take, and I'm not sold that it should be, f*** convincing them....you tell them they are moving to the bullpen. Like Garland or Vazquez have any room to put up an arhuement.

  21. QUOTE(sayitaintso @ Jul 2, 2006 -> 01:46 PM) Mark is turning the suck knob WAYYYYYYY up today. You're f***ing delusional.
  22. In Pittsburgh, 4-0 Detroit in the 2nd
  23. QUOTE(RX Bandits @ Jul 2, 2006 -> 11:04 AM) papelbon has a season ERA of .045 with 24 saves bj ryan has an ERA of .045 with 22 saves bobby has an era or 2.41 with 25 saves sorry you have to go with papelbon no argument B.J. Ryan's WHIP and BAA are slightly lower than Papelbon's, not to mention he has 1 blown save to Papelbon's 2. So contrary to what you posted and what ESPN propogandists report, an argument can be made for Ryan over Papelbon. Either way Jenks is third, at best.
  24. QUOTE(Dam8610 @ Jul 2, 2006 -> 09:52 AM) 2nd best. Sorry, but Papelbon is just destroying the league right now. 3rd best. B.J. Ryan is having a better year than Papelbon even.
  25. One of my best friends' little brother is going to be a preferred walk-on Freshman for Northern Illinois this year. He was a first team all-state quarterback last year, but he'll be playing strong safety at Northern. I'll be going to some Northern games and rooting for the Huskies if he finds his way on to the field in the next 5 years.
