  1. QUOTE(soxsr08 @ Nov 25, 2006 -> 11:35 AM) I understand that many public school fans think it is unfair to have recruiting in Catholic schools, since public schools cannot do it, but the sole reason Catholic schools (any private school really) can exsist is recruiting. Whether they are a great athlete or a really smart kid, they MUST be recruited to come to a private school or that school would not exsist. Simply put, without recruiting, schools like SR, MC, BR, etc would not exsist and generations of tradition would vanish both within the school and within families who have several graduates of those schools. I just hate Catholic people in general.
  2. QUOTE(soxsr08 @ Nov 23, 2006 -> 03:16 PM) Yeah, you're way off. SR isn't planning any parade and trust me, they aren't writing LZ off. Those coaches have been analyzing many of LZ's game films all week. They were also at the game when LZ played Prospect. So trust me, they want to know every possible thing there is to know about LZ. And to the LZ fans, you may think OUR heads are big, but trust me, YOU'RE the ones who sound like you've got it locked up already. Watching game film and going to the next opponents games are standard practices for football coaches during the regular season. Your tone sounds as if you think the St. Rita staff invented the process. In any case, I hate all Catholic schools, particularly Mt. Carmel, so I hope LZ and WWS roll this weekend. Then we can hear Mrs. Lenti and Mrs. Sharp and Mrs. Kuska b**** about the multiplier.
  3. QUOTE(Y2HH @ Oct 3, 2006 -> 10:21 PM) Thomas not only wanted 10M+ from us for 1 year (after excercising an overprice/inflated option), but would not have produced the same numbers in the AL central (as someone pointed out before). Why do you say this? You see what Frank does against Santana. Its not like the big man can't hit good pitching.
  4. QUOTE(Flash Tizzle @ Oct 1, 2006 -> 06:20 PM) I just can't imagine any prissy, North Side school such as New Trier or Winnetka assembling a championship tradition. Does the NEW TRIER TREVIANS immediately invoke football pride? LOL, just found out in their schools 105 year history they have yet to win a championship. That's how sterotypes are formed, lol. Maine South and Prospect are the only two north side schools with a championship tradition. New Trier is the most hatable high school in the state of Illinois.
  5. QUOTE(Buehrle>Wood @ Oct 1, 2006 -> 04:10 PM) Probably any game between the big name Catholic League teams(Rice, Rita, Mt. Carmel, Providence). It helps that they make up the best football conference in the state. You could also throw Marist in with those teams even though they really can't compete athletically. I take nothing away from Mt. Carmel and Providence, but Brother Rice and St. Rita are two of the most overrated programs in the state. Niether of these schools ever compete for a state title.....its time to down grade their status.
  6. QUOTE(soxsr08 @ Oct 1, 2006 -> 01:59 AM) wut do u think is the biggest hgh school rivalry in illinois? for me, without a doubt it is st. rita and mt. carmel. i dont think anything even come close to the intensity and excitement of that rivalry. no matter what the sport is, people fill the stands when those teams meet each other. even when people hear they are playing each other they always seem to at least consider going to watch them. btw, the football teams play in 2 weeks @ rita, anyone goin? I would agree with you, if only St. Rita were a little better at football. Mt. Carmel is a first tier program and St. Rita is a second tier program. This one certainly gets a whole lot of undue hype, considering MC almost always wins.
  7. Buehrle was done for '06 after the Cubs blow out.
  8. QUOTE(BHAMBARONS @ Sep 23, 2006 -> 08:00 PM) Would have to make sure somebody good was left on the bench for those 2 runners in scoring postion and 2 out situations becuase you can bring it to the bank that Gonzo won't get that hit. Yeah, its not like Luis Gonzalez has ever had a 9th-inning hit to win a game 7 of the World Series, or anything like that.
  9. QUOTE(sircaffey @ Sep 23, 2006 -> 07:11 PM) 52 doubles from Luis this year. I'd look into other options first, but it wouldnt be an bad stop gap solution if it came down to it. This is how I feel. Luis would be better than Pods or Sweeney, but not the best we could do. He is still a pretty good ML hitter. Also, a one year contract, tops.
  10. QUOTE(BearSox @ Sep 23, 2006 -> 04:09 PM) Would you trade Ryan Sweeney for Luis Gonzalez? Would you sacrifice playing time for a young, up-and-comming stud for an old has-been? No. I would look into signing Luis Gonzolez to a one-year deal, if it were cheap. His OBP the last two years are .366 and .359, respectively. I would bet anything Sweeney doesn't post a .360 OBP next year, at any level. I'd like to actually win in 2007, not waste at bats grooming Ryan Sweeney for 2009.
  11. QUOTE(BearSox @ Sep 23, 2006 -> 02:02 PM) Ryan Sweeney > Luis Gonzalez. Don't waste a kid's development for an old man. Yeah, because Ryan Sweeney has accomplished so much in the major leagues.
  12. Some second half White Sox stats. Overall record: 28-38 # of winning streaks of 3 games or more: 2 # of losing streaks of 3 games or more: 7 An unmitigated disaster.
  13. QUOTE(beautox @ Sep 22, 2006 -> 01:10 PM) Wow, you really think Brian is going to strugle like he had at the begining of the year, next year? i don't and i don't think its too optimistic to think Brian is going to hit .270 15 60 next year, infact thats what i expect from him. He has performed very well at every level of baseball including college. Since June 11th here are BA's stats .280 .329 .420 .750, that certainly doesn't look like we need an upgrade in CF, considering his glove is the 1337 sauce and hes our #9 hitter. Also from KWs own mouth from todays trib Ozzie may hate Brian, but Brian is KWs guy. To sum it up; Brian is the future and piece one of a young and upcoming talented OF(Sweeney,Anderson,Fields). He isn't going anywhere and KW is going to constantly bring in young talent when its applicable like Fields/Sweeney in LF next year. To be honest, beautox, I really don't know what Brian will do next year offensively. I do think his improvement needs to be more than just marginal, though. Some folks seem to think the CF position is locked up for the next decade with Brian, but I'm not ready to believe that yet.
  14. QUOTE(beautox @ Sep 22, 2006 -> 11:37 AM) As balta said we don't have CF woes, we've got managerial, back end of the BP, SP, LF & SS woes. Brian will be fine, also Gary is coming off a career year, he's 32 years old and reminds me alot of Tom Goodwin circa 1998, let some other club bite and overpay. We have a CFer who had a .302 OBP during the 2006 season. To say that we don't have CF woes, or that Anderson is a lock to have a better season in 2007, is very optimistic. I think that if Kenny can upgrade he should. Also, someone needs to have a long talk with Ozzie about not playing Mackowiak in center. Ever.
  15. QUOTE(Milkman delivers @ Sep 22, 2006 -> 10:43 AM) It was definitely the Iguchi grandslam against the Astros. That was extremely unbelievable. Crede's slam the day before was even better.
  16. During real coups, the streets run red with the blood of monarchs and loyalists. Bloodless coups are for pussies.
  17. QUOTE(santo=dorf @ Sep 18, 2006 -> 02:03 PM) Apologist my ass. If you can't see how good Thome has been this year or think he's only been good for April/May, you're either a fishing fool, or a Cubs fan. If you can't see how unproductive he's been since July, then you're letting your crush on Jim cloud your judgement.
  18. QUOTE(witesoxfan @ Sep 18, 2006 -> 01:39 PM) In 2003, the year you are comparing, I seem to remember almost every home run Thomas hit was pulled. Also, just so you're aware... 2002 - 115 K's 2003 - 115 K's Hell of a contact hitter he was back in the day You're not really trying to say that Thome is a better contact hitter than Frank, are you?
  19. QUOTE(kwolf68 @ Sep 18, 2006 -> 09:17 AM) To me it's all about tonight... If we win tonight I think we go on a roll. If we lose, we'll be out of this thing by week's end. If we lose tonight we are out of this thing instantly, not by weeks end.
  20. QUOTE(Heads22 @ Sep 18, 2006 -> 10:33 AM) Because we all know Frank would have done exactly the same thing in Chicago. It's not like it's a totally different situation over there in Oakland or anything. Well, I don't know what Frank would have done in Chicago this September. I do know that Thome has looked clueless down the stretch, but I'm sure the Jimmy-apollogists here will defend him anyway.
  21. QUOTE(kyyle23 @ Sep 18, 2006 -> 10:15 AM) Hmmm, boston fans must smile every time Johnny Damon gets a hit against the Red Sox Yeah, because Damon's Boston career is on par with Frank's White Sox career.
  22. QUOTE(South Side Fireworks Man @ Sep 17, 2006 -> 08:05 PM) KW did a great job putting this team together. It's not his fault the manager misused the players he was given and couldn't keep his mouth shut when it would have been better for the team if he did so. Ozzie is Ozzie. By now, we know what to expect from him. No way will he be fired, but maybe, just maybe, he'll have a tantrum and quit. Kenny wasn't infallible. He didn't provide Ozzie with a viable back-up centerfielder, which surely cost the Sox 2-3 games.
  23. QUOTE(Linnwood @ Sep 16, 2006 -> 11:30 AM) I recently moved from Chicago to Alexandria, VA for work and I miss watching Sox games very much so. I was excited to see that the Sox/A's game was going to be on Fox Saturday baseball, but I don't see it listed in my TV's guide. Per MLB.com: Sat., Sept. 16 1:25 p.m. Boston @ New York Yankees or Philadelphia @ Houston 4:10 p.m. Chicago White Sox @ Oakland Doesn't this mean I will get the BOS/NYY game AND the Sox/A's ? Or do some areas just not carry the 2nd game? Your lucky it wasn't broadcast in your area.
  24. QUOTE(Cuck the Fubs @ Sep 16, 2006 -> 07:40 PM) Uh, hello, Thome was also injured last year I believe it is spelled S. A. R. C. A. S. M.
