  1. QUOTE (lostfan @ May 27, 2009 -> 08:30 AM) Chris Young has had 3x the (meaningful) PAs in the majors, he has been well over the amount of PAs you need to see before you can judge how well he'll do in the majors for a while now (~800-1000) while Fields has only had about 600, with a season where he was injured and sent back to AAA - through no fault of his own - in between. Also Young has never hit for a high average in the pros, ever. There's really nothing to suggest a ceiling he's going to reach where he suddenly becomes a .290-.300 type hitter, I don't know why some people seem to think that. He isn't any more likely to do that and become a leadoff hitter than Fields. Fields is 26, Young is 25. There is not even a full year in between them, Fields born in December 1982 IIRC and Young born in September 1983. That's another reach. As I said, they both suck. So you are washed up at 25 because you got to the big leagues sooner, but 26 there's still a learning curve. Gotcha. I'd bet $1 million if KW was offered Chris Young straight up for Josh Fields right now he'd do it.
  2. QUOTE (SoxFan1 @ May 26, 2009 -> 11:15 PM) AJ's slugging percentage is down, his OBP is down, his average is down. Are you stating otherwise? You're repeating the same thing over and over and over and OVER again. We know. You're not discussing anything. You're rambling on about the same exact thing to nobody. We get the point. He's also a 32 year old catcher, not 24, but keep going. If AJP is ample proof Greg Walker is a bad hitting coach, there aren't any good ones in baseball.
  3. Daniel Cabrera DFA'd by Washington. I cannot believe they gave this guy $2.6 million this past offseason.
  4. QUOTE (SoxFan1 @ May 27, 2009 -> 12:42 AM) He's hitting .173 with 3 HR and 9 RBI. He's walked 7 times and struck out 44 times. Just thought I should bring this up. What is really weird is how you defend Josh Fields every chance you get but rip this guy. They have basically been the same offensive player in the major leagues except Young runs better and plays better defense and is younger. They both suck, but why would Young's stats at this point be tell-tale, at least so important you have to make a thread about it, and Fields' stats mean very little? Again, Young is a younger player.
  5. Why is Hawk b****ing about the night game on getaway day? Thursday is an off day. The White Sox don't play home games during the day for every getaway day.
  6. QUOTE (Kenny Hates Prospects @ May 25, 2009 -> 10:23 PM) Jim Thome and Javy Vazquez waived NTC clauses to come here, despite Ozzie's reputation in national media. Vazquez demanded a trade from Arizona, and even though I don't really buy Ozzie being all that loved by his players, I don't buy anyone not coming to the White Sox because they don't want to play for him. I could see where his act could get old, but its not like he's a total ass to his players.
  7. The Angels have 3 hits in 6 innings against Colon. They probably need to fire their hitting coach.
  8. Torii Hunter looks shaky at best in CF the last 2 nights.
  9. Every homer Nix hits its a little longer we don't have to see Lillibridge in a White Sox uniform.
  10. QUOTE (Reddy @ May 26, 2009 -> 10:40 PM) i'm sorry, 3-0 and 2-1 are completely, completely different. he's been having really solid at bats. no point debating it, but saying brian "would've done it anyway" is just silly. He was 2-16 with the bases loaded. Saying he would have come through big time is even sillier. What happened happened. Its time to move on.
  11. QUOTE (BearSox @ May 26, 2009 -> 10:38 PM) I just don't get it. It's not even like Saunders is throwing 98 mph or has some wicked movement. He's throwing 90-92 mph fastballs with some a little sink. Those are very hittable, especially in a situation where you know he will be coming in with the fastball. He dropped his shoulder and was trying to put 4 on the board. I think his homer total is weighing on him and will slow his bat down a lot. I don't like him, but I've seen him with a very short stroke in the on deck circle and supposedly he has one during BP, but he really hasn't been able to take it to the actual game.
  12. QUOTE (Reddy @ May 26, 2009 -> 10:36 PM) Hawk was actually right that Brian probably wouldn't have swung at that last pitch had the other not been called a strike. it sets up the high fastball. I'm BA's biggest fan, but I don't buy that.
  13. So the Sox probably would have scored 5 runs if that pitch was called a ball. OK Hawk. I love BA but he fouled the next pitch off and swung and missed the next one after that. Chances are he would have done nothing.
  14. QUOTE (santo=dorf @ May 26, 2009 -> 09:54 PM) Miller is significantly cheaper from a back-up catcher perspective. Tubby was the 2nd or 3rd highest backup catcher in the league when he was here. They were giddy when they got him. They thought he would light up lefthanders. The spring training injury I don't think ever healed. He should have had surgery.
  15. Chris Singleton is so much better away from Farmer. Maybe Farmer is the problem.
  16. QUOTE (scenario @ May 26, 2009 -> 09:46 PM) Jordan Danks now batting .391 at Birmingham. He's really been incredible. As crazy as this sounds, I kind of hope he goes into a funk pretty soon. He's raked since he's signed. I think he needs a little adversity. It would do him good in the long run IMO.
  17. Wise 2-5 with a double at Charlotte. He's the call.
  18. QUOTE (fathom @ May 26, 2009 -> 09:42 PM) They'll call up Wise in a few days. So a career .215 hitter who hasn't played in a couple of months will get 10 or 12 AB and get the call? I hope not, but its probably going to happen. The weakness of the White Sox system in the past is really biting them in the ass so far this season.
  19. I wonder who they will call up with Quentin most likely DLed. I hope its not Lillibridge. There really is nothing at Charlotte that interests me in the least.
  20. QUOTE (BearSox @ May 26, 2009 -> 09:39 PM) I'd much prefer having Lucy up. Neither will hit, but at least Lucy will play better D and actually be in shape. I really don't see any difference between Hall and Miller, except that Miller has a better arm. Hall could be expected to hit a little better, and he was a HOFer with the shaving cream pies.
  21. Corky has hit better than he has in 6 years. I really don't know what everyone expects.
  22. QUOTE (SoxFan1 @ May 26, 2009 -> 09:31 PM) Fields just ran into one right there. What a horrible hitter. He's tremendous. The only thing holding him back from hitting .320 with 50 homers is Greg Walker.
  23. QUOTE (SoxFan1 @ May 26, 2009 -> 09:03 PM) No offense to you, but I'd take Baseball-Reference's word before yours. http://www.baseball-reference.com/players/p/pierza.01.shtml AJ's numbers are very similar to what they were in SF. I guess that was Greg Walker's fault as well. He is hitting for more power. If he hit 6 homers a year with the Sox, people would be complaining about that.
  24. QUOTE (Buehrle>Wood @ May 26, 2009 -> 08:38 PM) Evidenced by what? We have seemed to have our fair share of lift and pull hitters over the years. Its not what he preaches. He's not going to make Jim Thome a singles hitter. Jermaine Dye has had a lot of success working with him as has Konerko who was dead in the water with Gary Ward. Carlos Quentin was a MVP guy last year. He's been hurt this season. He works with a hitter's strengths. The White Sox have been a power hitting roster for a long while. The problem with this kind of roster is the inconsistent run totals from game to game. They probably do rely on hitting homers to score too much, but that's not on the hitting coach. If the White Sox acquired some .320 hitters, I think they would be just fine under Greg Walker. Its a fallacy that Walker has everyone swinging from the heals. Who has been a significantly worse hitter when they came to the Sox and who has been significantly better after leaving the White Sox and working with another hitting coach. Please take aging into consideration, and don't use Nick Swisher, because one of the reasons they dumped him was because he refused to listen to White Sox coaches. His hitting coach was Steve Swisher. The answer is nobody. Scott Podsednik hit significantly less homers with the White Sox than he did with the Brewers.
