  1. Jim Thome has never hit 3 homers in a major league game. If there's anyone you would think definitely would have done it, it would be him.
  2. Josh Fields and Ryan Sweeney have the same amount of homers this year.
  3. QUOTE (zenryan @ May 12, 2009 -> 07:47 PM) Buehrle 0 times Danks 2 times Colon 3 times Contreras 4 times Floyd 4 times Richards 0 time 13 times in 32 starts so far. Gavin Floyd has pretty much received a pass on his suckiness this year on this board. For the most part, he's been awful.
  4. QUOTE (Princess Dye @ May 12, 2009 -> 07:47 PM) OK! I'm fine with decreased production from Thome from these last few years. Just up the timeliness of your RBIs. Thome is one of the streakiest hitters of all time. He's been drawing walks lately. Usually when that happens, a bunch of homers get added in. Then he'll go cold and a pony leaguer can blow him away. He's still got it. He might not be a 50 homer threat anymore, but 30-35 should be automatic if he can stay in the line-up.
  5. Thome has to go. He's done. Nice guy but can't hit.
  6. QUOTE (scenario @ May 11, 2009 -> 04:54 PM) Actually, Boers just says things he thinks will increase the number of phone calls and listeners... whether there is any basis in fact is irrelevant. Might sound like I'm being overly critical and/or cynical. But that's not my intent. I like Boers (and Bernstein). I just don't have alot of respect for their baseball knowledge. Football? Absolutely! They cover football well. Very knowledgeable. But IMO, their sports IQ drops about 50 points when they start talking baseball. It's the one part of their show I find myself turning the channel more often than not. I don't think a discussion of Jeff Marquez would light up the Score's phone lines.
  7. QUOTE (fathom @ May 12, 2009 -> 07:20 PM) Just remember...if we see Poreda or Beckham this year, we're in trouble. Richard's brought this upon himself by walking so many hitters. I'll let this start slide with Richard getting his feet wet, but I still think the problem the Sox have replacing an ineffective Contreras, is they have nobody who can outperform his badness. Hopefully, Contreras can get his act together quickly in Charlotte.
  8. If Ozzie truely believes Lillibridge gives him a better chance to win than Ramirez right now, its time to really worry about Ramirez.
  9. QUOTE (Heads22 @ May 12, 2009 -> 06:56 PM) We need to find atbats for one Mr. Jayson Nix. If anything, his hot streak could finally rid us of having to watch Brent Lillibridge when BA is ready to return.
  10. Nix, SS Getz, 2B Dye, RF Thome, DH Konerko, 1B Fields, 3B Miller, C Podsednik, LF Lillibridge, CF This is a disgusting line-up. 3 out of 9 don't have career avg. above .200.
  11. Nix SS Getz 2B Quentin LF Dye RF Thome DH Konerko 1B Fields 3B Miller C Podsednik CF
  12. Considering the White Sox have not given a free agent from another team more than $20 million since the winter of 1996, I highly doubt they would give a college pitcher more than that.
  13. QUOTE (Soxfest @ May 11, 2009 -> 08:51 PM) Thank You Mrs. Walker What has Boston's hitting coach done to Big Papi?
  14. QUOTE (TheBigHurt @ May 11, 2009 -> 08:48 PM) The Sox getting curb stomped by the MLB's worst team (I'm pretty sure, at least)... is anyone really surprised? I'm not, not in the LEAST. Not only that, Carl Pavano was on the hill.
  15. QUOTE (Soxfest @ May 11, 2009 -> 08:46 PM) I do not care what Swisher does rest of the year the Yankees got more production out of him in a month than Sox got all year. All Sox players should not listen to Walker If they want long careers. His June last year was similar or better than what he has done thus far this season, so once again, you're wrong.
  16. QUOTE (Soxfest @ May 11, 2009 -> 08:40 PM) He was behind Jerry Owens......he was hard to go around, what position is he playing now. That's right NONE! Swisher gets away from Walker and I'll be he is hitting again like before he got around Walker! Swisher didn't listen to Walker. You must have missed the article last week. Also, Swish is on the decline. Wait until the end of the year when he will be down again. If Jerry Owens didn't get hurt in spring training 2008, Quentin would have started the season in Charlotte.
  17. What really might help Greg Walker's hitters is facing Don Cooper's pitchers.
  18. QUOTE (Soxfest @ May 11, 2009 -> 08:30 PM) That is my point also the more Walker is around these guys the worse it gets, also CQ was hurt most of Spring Training last year so Walker could not totally screw him up before season started and AR spoke no english so he could not understand GW nonsense! SAD BUT TRUE:gosoxretro: That's ridiculous. Quentin was acquired for an A ball firstbaseman. He was behind Jerry Owens and almost was an MVP. Ramirez was hitting .170 in May last year and turned it around. He was working with Walker.
  19. QUOTE (stretchstretch @ May 11, 2009 -> 08:26 PM) and I'll provide a HUGE correction: 2008, first season with the WhiteSox, 288avg, 100RBI, 36HR, AL MVP frontrunner in shortened season Carlos Quentin, and first season with the White Sox, 290avg, Rookie of the Year candidate Alexei Ramirez say hello!!! 2009, second season with the White Sox .239 avg Carlos Quentin, second season with the White Sox .194 avg Alexei Ramirez, and Rookie of the Year Winner Evan Longoria now hitting .358, with 11HR, 44RBI in his second season with player developing Tampa Bay, all say "What's up Greg Walker??" What was Loaisa like in 2004? Floyd in 2009? Why is it you can give Cooper credit for Conteras going 15-0 but he can't take the blame when his ERA is 9.00? What about Mike MacDougal?
  20. QUOTE (Balta1701 @ May 11, 2009 -> 08:16 PM) Not exactly, Floyd was around Cooper in 2007 also, so he went upwards first. When Sox hitters do well, its thought on this board it has nothing to do with Walker, although the players swear by him. What about Jermaine Dye? Quentin, Konerko. Cooper has had some success with castoffs, but really how many of them really had more than a year or so of success? Thornton. Jenks but I don't know how you give that success to Cooper and why is it Cooper would get all the credit? Giving him credit for every pitchers' success and giving Walker no credit for Quentin isn't consistent and makes zero sense. I have no problem with either coach. I just don't see how Walker is public enemy #1 to many Sox fans and Cooper walks on water.
  21. QUOTE (caulfield12 @ May 11, 2009 -> 08:01 PM) I would rather have Stone as hitting coach at this point than Walker. The Gobbler eats up Floyd's ERA to 7.32. That's almost as good as my AIG investment...good thing KW only managing talent and not my portfolio since this past off-season. Why is it Walker gets criticized for the hitting but Cooper gets a pass on the pitching? The Sox have allowed 8 or more runs more than they have been shutout this year. After Cooper went out to talk to Floyd he gave up 2 hits and a HBP allowing 4 runs to score.
  22. QUOTE (fathom @ May 11, 2009 -> 08:01 PM) At least KW has the Swisher trade to deflect any criticism of the Javy trade. As much as I hated Javy, I'd gladly take him on this team as the #3. I personally don't mind either trade. The only thing that bugs me is KW talking like he fleeced these teams talent-wise. Marquez absolutely sucks. Nunez is 22 with his 4th organization, Lillibridge is garbage, and the Sox actually had the nerve to compare Gilmore to Crede a guy who was a minor league MVP twice I believe.
  23. QUOTE (fathom @ May 11, 2009 -> 07:53 PM) Don't look at Gilmore's stats if you're in a bad mood. He may only be hitting about .150 with no power and a ton of k's but he only has 10 errors.
  24. QUOTE (caulfield12 @ May 11, 2009 -> 07:53 PM) Great news!!!! We can lose again tomorrow. Clayton Richard is starting, they switched around the rotation again. 1/59 AJ? Just kidding...AJ's really getting better, according to DJ. Corky Miller has thrown out no one. The pitching staff other than Buerhle and occassionally Danks has a hard time giving the catchers much of a chance.
