White Sox (1-1) vs. Royals (1-1) 1:05-CSN

QUOTE (elrockinMT @ Apr 9, 2009 -> 01:31 PM) Get used to it for this year. I think we will see some really good plays and then errorrs on some easy plays That has always been his problem. He's made great plays before, but boots easy ones or will air mail a throw. He's kind of a less rangy 3B version of Jose Valentin. That's why I think expecting him to be Brooks Robinson after a couple of weekends of Joey Cora hitting him grounders is crazy. On opening day, he airmailed a throw to first warming up in the first, but made a perfect throw to get a runner at home off balanced. -

QUOTE (Jordan4life @ Apr 9, 2009 -> 11:42 AM) Yup. And every time I read a story like this I get a sick vomit feeling in my stomach because I was guilty of driving under the influence a couple years ago. So, so fortunate my dumbass didn't hurt anybody. I'm NEVER letting that dumb s*** happen again. I think the majority of this board has driven when they were probably in no condition to do so, including myself. Not hurting anyone including ourselves was really dodging a bullet. I refuse to drive if I have 1 drink anymore. (Of course its easier for me as my wife does not drink).

I loved the fact Jenks was hitting 96 on the gun Tuesday. He hadn't done that in April since he's been a White Sox, at least on the major league level. I really think the offense is going to be very inconsistent. The Sox are going to have to win games when they only score 2 or 3 runs.
-
Its amazing how the majority of these stories have drinking and driving involved with them. This guy was a totally innocent victim who has his life cut short because of someone else's stupidity. If you go to a game anytime soon, and you drive, and the beer vendor won't sell you a beer until you are finished with the one you are currently drinking, instead of cussing him out, and complaining about the new rule, thank him he may be saving someone some heartache.

QUOTE (BigSqwert @ Apr 9, 2009 -> 09:56 AM) That's a big improvement in my eyes. I'd switch Fields and Wise, but its a big improvement.

I hope the crowd gets off Wise's back now. It really was like if the CFO of a company left and was replaced by the janitor, and if people got upset because the janitor screwed up. Wise was not at fault. Its good that Ozzie admitted he was the one to blame and appears to be ending this experiment before it costs the White Sox games. -

QUOTE (LZPride08 @ Apr 8, 2009 -> 10:41 PM) is anyone else embarrassed that our leadoff hitter is 0-8, with 4 K's and no BB... o and i guess he's never learned how to lay down a bunt He has just as many hits as Ramirez and Quentin combined. I'm really not embarrassed. They are 1-1. His awfulness has not cost the White Sox a game yet. Hopefully, the White Sox will see the mistake they are making before it does. -
QUOTE (kapkomet @ Apr 8, 2009 -> 11:15 PM) Catalanotto is available (at least he was) and he batted well over .300 this spring. If the White Sox signed him to play CF, I'm fairly confident the White Sox would have the worst OF defense in the major leagues this year, and maybe of all time. If Wise has to play, move him down in the order. Let BA play, but don't have him leadoff. I still don't know why the White Sox seem to insist the CF must lead off.

QUOTE (Y2HH @ Apr 8, 2009 -> 02:20 PM) If you need to me answer this question, the team you should be cheering is a few miles north. So if the guy leading off the game strikes out, expect some boos. But if you load the bases with nobody out and the next 2 guys pop up, no boos? or to question it means I should be a Cubs fan? I know Dewayne Wise sucks. I just don't understand why there is a need to boo HIM. He didn't make out the line-up card or select the roster. -

QUOTE (CanOfCorn @ Apr 8, 2009 -> 02:15 PM) Why? Because Quentin, AJ and Ramirez have done a LOT more for this team than D-Weezy has. And as a leadoff hitter, ON OPENING DAY, to get a hat trick and two failed sacrifices...thatsa no goood. hamburgers happens in one at bat. But, 3 K's and really nothing to show for anything...i mean, c'mon. He's doing the best he can, but that's probably not going to be good enough. Of course its not. The point is, he's not capable of doing the things the crowd wants him to do. He shouldn't be booed. I am very critical of White Sox players, but the only player I have ever booed is Jaime Navarro for his piss poor attitude. Its alright IMO to be frustrated with a player or think he absolutely blows, but to boo a guy giving all he's got is just wrong. The people responsible for putting him in a position where he cannot succed should be booed. Boo Ozzie and Kenny. -

QUOTE (Y2HH @ Apr 8, 2009 -> 01:53 PM) The few when he was introduced are the typical obnoxious fans and they are better off ignored. But when a lead off man K's, expect some boo's, when he K's twice, expect more...and when he botches a critical lead off situation, expect what he got. Again, too damn bad. And the few boos the first times were meh -- it was the final time that everyone noticed...because until you just said this, I didn't notice him getting booed the first few times, so I'm just taking your word that it even happened. Cleveland fans boo Jim Thome, too. There are always idiots. How come they didn't boo when Quentin fanned before Thome homered? Or when AJP and Ramirez had back to back pop outs with the bases loaded an nobody out? The boos were very noticeable for Wise. Unfortunately for Wise, he isn't very good but has been put in a position with a lot of responsibility that he probably doesn't have the ability to fulfill.. He has become the USCF whipping boy. -

QUOTE (Y2HH @ Apr 8, 2009 -> 01:40 PM) To be fair, nobody booed him every time he stepped up to the plate...it was just that once, when he super mega failed to perform a basic lead off man task in a critical situation. That was the only time he was booed that I saw, and more to the point, I think people were booing the "typical Sox failure" situation more than they were booing Wise. As for affecting his confidence and ability to deliver? Let's not act like he's a hot dog salesman making 5$ an hour. At MINIMUM, so long as he stays in the majors, he's making about 500K this year. I say that because in 2002 he made 200K, in 2004 he made 350K...feel free to do the math, I'm guessing he makes about a half-mil now, if not more. So boo-hoo to his confidence under pressure. He's paid VERY well to make do with failing and then getting booed for said failure. Now go tell your brother/son/cousin/father Dwayne Wise to buck up and start performing. :P Wise was booed after every AB. There even were a few when he was introduced. -

QUOTE (SoxFan562004 @ Apr 8, 2009 -> 12:02 PM) I agree with you 100% about the Getz comment, but don't you think if they are going to move Wise that far down they're better of putting BA in due to his superior D? I would but they seem to think Wise will rake RHP. I'm a huge fan of BA, but when he gets his opportunity this year, he's going to have to put up or shut up. He must hit. I think he will. -

If moving Getz from the #2 spot to the leadoff spot will ruin his career or damage it in anyway, he's not going to have a very good career anyway. Put him or Ramirez at the top.(Even though I like Ramirez low in the line-up) but 8th sort of wastes him too. Move Wise to 8 or 9, maybe 9, moving Fields to 8 and the team will be far better off. -

QUOTE (YASNY @ Apr 8, 2009 -> 11:30 AM) One more shot at Wise here ... Did anyone else notice that Wise didn't seem to know which way to turn on that bomb to CF that Burls gave up? The wind got a hold of that ball. He's not a very good CF but I don't blame him for that play. It took off. -
Whatever Chris wants, Chris Getz.

QUOTE (beautox @ Apr 7, 2009 -> 05:24 PM) i was at the game in the lower bowl (sec 127 row 27) and it felt like everyone down there was calling for his head and screaming for anderson; and rightfully so Anderson could just as easily look as bad as wise and have a significant upside in CF and with the bat. Regardless of wise or anderson neither of them should be hitting lead off. Getz and Fields or Getz and Ramirez or bust. I was getting at that earlier. Unless Wise performs a miracle and becomes Rickey Henderson Jr. he's going to get quite a beatdown from the home crowd, which really is unfair and I hope KW and Ozzie realize that they are the people responsible for this and the booing is indirectly directed (if that makes any sense) at them. Dewayne Wise, who seems like he's a pretty good guy, is going to have to go through hell because of their decisions. Do Dewayne a favor and move him to 8th or 9th in the line up if he must play. He will have a lot lifted off his shoulders and will give him a better shot at success. The guy is going to try to change those boos to cheers and try to hit 3 or 4 homers in one AB. That will not work. Its only going to get uglier if they keep him at the top. -
QUOTE (kwolf68 @ Apr 7, 2009 -> 03:55 PM) Some have complained that Kenny has failed to get the part needed, but it sounds like to me he is as frustratated as anyone that we have to start with Wise in CF. I think the options out there are too costly, or are not that much of an upgrade anyway. He was probably hoping for an in house solution (Lillibridge), but that never came to fruition. Getz is not a leadoff hitter, he is a prototypical #2. Alexei isn't leadoff material either. Nor Brian Anderson. Jerry Owens was jettisoned to the softball beer leagues leaving us with DeWayne Wise. I think Kenny knows a real legit leadoff hitter who could hit you .280/.380+ with 25+ steal potential makes this team all the more dangerous and don't think he hasn't tried to right that ship. Be patient...I have a feeling Kenny will get the right guy to fill that spot sooner rather than later...Wise is going to be too much to overcome. Fine, he can't get a prototypical leadoff guy. That's still no excuse for putting Dewayne Wise, he the 31 year old with a .214 career batting average and a .254 career OBP, in the leadoff spot. There is no excuse for it. None. Its beyond stupid and ridiculous.

No one should be angry with Wise. He's doing the best he can, he just isn't very good and is certainly not a top of the order kind of guy. Any anger or criticism should be directed at the two guys who put him in a position where anything but failure is a longshot-Ozzie and KW. -
Fields had a great game as obviously,Thome. I feel sorry for Wise, he's in over his head and its not his fault. He's already getting the crap booed out of him. They need to end this experiment now. Also the new out of town scoreboard is very nice if you are close enough to read it.

QUOTE (JPN366 @ Apr 6, 2009 -> 02:31 PM) I didn't know that being 28 for a pitcher was the end of the road. 28 with as limited success in the major leagues as he has had, with an organization that values power arms, the writing is on the wall. KW would rather bring up a guy who throws hard and have him get torched than a guy like Wassermann. He's good AAA fodder, but that's it.

If the Bears signed Plaxico and there was one problem, everyone involved in signing him should immediately be fired. I really think there is zero chance Angelo is even considering bringing this knucklehead in. T. O. is an angel compared to this guy. Character should count for something. It amazes me how many people on this board want him in a Bears uniform, like he'll really be a changed person by all of this. If anything, judging by his traffic offenses and responses, he still thinks he's invincible. Avoiding a lengthy jail sentence and/or a lengthy suspension by the NFL would only make his head grow larger and he would act like even a bigger idiot.
