Thome
QUOTE(My Dixie Normus @ Jul 31, 2006 -> 09:17 PM) Tendinitis in the right wrist. He had a cortisone shot in Chicago today. I have that in both wrists. I had surgery on one. I will probably have it on the other this winter. You can function but it can be hard to grip things. The cortisone may help for the time being but eventually, it will have to be addressed. I play golf three times a week if that gives you some idea of how functional you can be but hitting 400 ft. bombs is a little harder than hitting a golf ball. Why do I look at Thome and thing any joint pain he may have is probably the gout?

MacDougal and McCarthy both could use some steroids.

QUOTE(Gregory Pratt @ Jul 31, 2006 -> 09:17 PM) Contreras is from Cuba. I'm sure he's not bothered by the heat. I know it gets hot in Cuba, but it supposedly was 104 in KC today. I think that would bother just about any human working hard in those conditions for a couple of hours.

QUOTE(BamaDoc @ Jul 31, 2006 -> 09:15 PM) Why is Contreras still in? 106 pitches starting the inning. The bullpen is spent. Unfortunately for Contreras his pitch count and the temperature are pretty much the same right now. QUOTE(Heads22 @ Jul 31, 2006 -> 09:15 PM) I'd like to see Riske as the first out of the pen. If it gets tight, Matt. Riske still scares me in tight situations.

QUOTE(Soxman72 @ Jul 31, 2006 -> 09:10 PM) Dick I tend to agree with you on most thing, but we have been there and tried that with Cotts. He needs at least one more pitch and I just don't believe he has the capacity of pitching over 200 innings. But he was very young when he was a starter. A little maturity, adding another pitch, plus the fact that right handed hitters have a tough time against him usually, I think he will be a very good back of the rotation starter in the future. Next year may be pushing it, but I really believe he will be in some team's rotation in the next few seasons if he remains healthy.

QUOTE(Gregory Pratt @ Jul 31, 2006 -> 09:03 PM) No way. I think Cotts will definitely be a starter some day. Thornton, I am not sure about, but he came up as a starter. He started a game against the White Sox that I attended, and couldn't throw a strike to save his life.

You have to figure McCarthy is going to be in the rotation next year. Anyone think Thornton or Cotts may get a shot to stretch it out in spring training and KW deals 2 starters? If Chacon can bring back Craig Wilson, I know Wilson isn't the greatest, but Chacon is brutal, 2 Sox starters could free up a ton of money and bring back a lot of players.

QUOTE(Jordan4life_2006 @ Jul 31, 2006 -> 08:42 PM) I'm saying Rogers is no better than Garcia or Vazquez. Everybody knew he was pitching way over his head the first half. Now, once again, he's getting lit up after the break. It happens EVERY year. I just found it strange you were so quick to stick up for him. Lord knows you never, ever do that with our guys. You need to work on comprehension of my posts. I stick up for a lot of White Sox players. I just haven't sucked back the Kool-Aid that will make me worship the ground Ozzie walks on, and that will make me think Coop can walk over to a mall, pick 11 or 12 guys and make the best pitching staff in baseball. And all I said about Rogers was that I wouldn't call him useless just yet. That's hardly a glowing endorsement.

QUOTE(Jordan4life_2006 @ Jul 31, 2006 -> 08:35 PM) Again, how is he any less useless, though? My argument is not that Vazquez is better. He wins big games. Your saying Vazquez is not better, but Rogers is useless. If Rogers is useless or just sucks, then Vazquez has to suck or am I missing something.

QUOTE(Jordan4life_2006 @ Jul 31, 2006 -> 08:32 PM) His era ist at 4.63. Imagine if he pitched half his games at the Cell. He wouldn't be any better than Vazquez. Imagine what his record would be if he got over 7 runs a start support, same as Vazquez.

QUOTE(Jordan4life_2006 @ Jul 31, 2006 -> 08:30 PM) I'm not even sticking up for Garcia or Vazquez. I just found it funny that dickallen (one of the more pessimistic people on this site) stuck up for Rogers, who's been pitching like spiff since the break, and has a history of pitching like spiff after the break, yet has no problem at all killing our guys when they're struggling. Rogers might be pitching like spiff after the break, but he beat the White Sox after the break. He won a big game for his team.

7/31 White Sox v. Royals
QUOTE(Jordan4life_2006 @ Jul 31, 2006 -> 08:25 PM) Well, Rogers' era is at 4.63 now. His era is well over 10 since the break. He has a history of piching like crap after the break. How is he any less useless than Garcia and Vazquez? What are the ERA's of the 2 you are talking about? What is Vazquez's history in the AL after the break? How is Freddy's 86 mph heater going to hold up in the dog days? I've never said Rogers is great, I just said he isn't useless. He would have been a far option for KW than Javier Vazquez.

7/31 White Sox v. Royals
QUOTE(Jordan4life_2006 @ Jul 31, 2006 -> 08:19 PM) Why not? You say that about all our starters. No I don't. The only 2 I find totally useless are Vazquez and Garcia. I have been one of Contreras' biggest supporters since he became a White Sox. Last year when people wanted to trade him for Burnett, I was laughed at for suggesting he could outpitch Burnett the rest of the 2005 season. I'm not a huge fan of Garland, but he's been better lately. He'll fall back from where's he been but probably won't be as bad as he was at the beginning of the year for the balance. Buerhle I like, but he's been so horrible. He'll be back.

QUOTE(Jordan4life_2006 @ Jul 31, 2006 -> 08:16 PM) His era has to be something like 12 since the all-star break. Didn't he beat the Sox in a series Hawk said was far bigger for the Tigers than the Sox?

Just remember when things aren't going so well, they always could be worse. You could be a Royals fan.

Thome has to be livid he can't take cuts against this pitching staff.
-
Thome
The fact that they would send him to Chicago would indicate to me the Sox thought it could be a big problem. Maybe they didn't say anything because if he was hurt they probably would have tried for a big bat at the deadline and didn't want the price to get higher than gas.

Crede does look tired lately, but doesn't he historically hit well in KC?

7/31 White Sox v. Royals
QUOTE(RockRaines @ Jul 31, 2006 -> 07:47 PM) If he went for the running catch at the shoetops and missed it, it would have cost us many more runs. Smart play by him IMO. Stand there and let the ball bounce 5 feet in front of you? This is the major leagues. The greatest players in the world. He's probably the only LF that doesn't have that ball routinely.

7/31 White Sox v. Royals
QUOTE(fathom @ Jul 31, 2006 -> 07:46 PM) People say he's supposed to be a decent outfielder because he has speed. However, he's so tentative out there, and he looks slower than hell now. I laugh when people rip on Manny's defense when trying to stick up for Pods. I watched some Red Sox games this weekend, and Manny made 5 throws in those games better than any Pods has ever made. Most of the people throwing out the ceremonial first pitch make stronger throws than Pods has ever made.

QUOTE(southsideirish71 @ Jul 31, 2006 -> 07:44 PM) Thank god the weight of the trade deadline is off their collective backs so they can start to play good ball. Brady Clark would of caught that. But Mr. Dergan has a hot wife, is a singles hitter, who cant steal, and cant field. Glad we have him over Clark. Just put fishing Mack in LF and be done with it. Pods only steal since the All Star game he actually was picked off. By Bruce Chen. For the 3rd time in 2 years.

Pods looked like he was playing bounce or fly and he needed to get one on the bounce. He is really pathetic defensively. He wasn't great last year, but the dropoff this season has been tremendous.
