  1. LaMarr Hoyt won 15 straight decisions during 1983-84, and 14 straight from 1981-82. That guy was like a right handed Mark Buerhle, just add 50 lbs. The Sox got him and Oscar Gamble for Bucky Dent, and came very close to having Ron Guidry thrown in that trade. Instead the Yankees threw in what Bill Veeck loved even more, a bunch of cash. Considering Hoyt eventually turned into Ozzie Guillen it was one of Roland Hemond's finest trades.
  2. QUOTE(Melissa1334 @ Jun 17, 2006 -> 07:24 PM) im not saying k's mean nothing, they do. but it depends. like when theres a runner at 3rd with less than two outs, situations like that. I really think we have nothing to complain about with Contreras. All pitchers have games like this. If by chance he loses, he will be 18-2 his last 20 decisions counting playoffs.
  3. QUOTE(Milkman delivers @ Jun 17, 2006 -> 07:23 PM) At least AJ came through with RISP once today. Was that when Freel picked up Cora?
  4. It was low, but Contreras has had a few beneficial calls tonight. It all evens out.
  5. The Sox just need to keep this close, and if they are behind give Thome a chance to tie it or give them a lead.
  6. QUOTE(Milkman delivers @ Jun 17, 2006 -> 07:16 PM) I'll take the 4-K Contreras that gives up a maximum of 3 runs over the 10+ K Contreras any day. Those last 2 runs were courtesy of a jam job bloop. He's 7-0 and has the longest winning streak in White Sox history. He also has fanned 24 his last 2 starts. I'll take my chances with him anyday.
  7. QUOTE(Heads22 @ Jun 17, 2006 -> 07:13 PM) 13 K, but will it matter? How many other 45 year old pitchers establish career highs in strikeouts in back to back starts?
  8. I really love outfielders that play shallow. When you're playing as deep as Pods was, if its over your head, its gone, and those little bloops, this particular one had some hang time on it, drop in and do damage.
  9. Why does Pods play Kearns 3 feet from the warning track?
  10. QUOTE(Milkman delivers @ Jun 17, 2006 -> 05:34 PM) "Nobody's gonna get to th...yes he will" I think those guys that worked on Hawk's eyes should give him a refund.
  11. QUOTE(Ndgt10 @ Jun 17, 2006 -> 05:29 PM) I love seeing the cubs get bent over. The thing that sucks is these losses hurt the White Sox. Detroit has a real good team IMO.
  12. Howry imploding in the 8th. 7-1 DET.
  13. DJ has really improved. He may be smarter than Hawk, but I don't think so baseball-wise. Besides, although DJ did work Phil McCracken into the telecast, he can never match Hawk working Catfish and Yaz in almost every night. We are due for a Frank Howard story tonight. I love the Hawk.
  14. KW tried to acquire Weaver when he was pitching for the Tigers. The fact that it appears the Angels are willing to almost give him away, and eat most of his contract, and they still don't have a taker speaks volumes. IIRC, he pretty much was a gas can when he was used out of the bullpen, and has had a few off the field issues. Cooper's a good pitching coach, but not a miracle worker. I think I would pass unless you where only on the hook for a very very small amount, and the Angels were willing to take a non-prospect. He's a punk.
  15. The knock on Riske is he has a tough time with pressure situations. I read somewhere where he was credited with zero holds last season. I don't know if thats true. Its hard to judge how he'll do by a situation like last night, but it would have been pretty hard for him to look any better. He's a much better bet to outperform Tracey or Montero or Politte, and probably is just as effective as anyone that is available on the market for a reasonable price right now, especially for someone that the organization obviously viewed as Charlotte filler.
  16. QUOTE(TitoMB345 @ Jun 16, 2006 -> 07:22 PM) I used to like him, but now hes just annoying. Though, like you, he cracks me up. I just laugh at all the stupid s*** he says... Wow, Uribe 2-3. I get annoyed hearing the same crap all the time. Seriously, Hawk may be dead and they might be using a soundboard, but his corniness I do appreciate. I rip him occassionally, but I love the Hawk.
  17. QUOTE(Milkman delivers @ Jun 16, 2006 -> 07:16 PM) What's Freddy's pitch count now? It doesn't matter. Ozzie will let him go 5 as long as he gives up 9 runs or less.
  18. QUOTE(SoxFan1 @ Jun 16, 2006 -> 07:14 PM) Oh, and is Riske in the park or what? I have yet to see him. And on another note, how dare those who travelled to Cincy not stay at a Red Roof Inn and use the internet to check in at SoxTalk! Chances of them checking in on Soxtalk...............remote.
  19. Why am I still not comfortable with a 7 run lead and a guy who pitched 7 shutout innings in the World Championship clinching game 8 months ago.
  20. Pods with 3 rbi tonight. He is within 2 of last season's rbi total.
  21. In the first, I figured 8 would be enough. I'm not so sure now, but I do think its almost a lock we see Riske tonight if he's available.
  22. QUOTE(Capn12 @ Jun 16, 2006 -> 07:00 PM) Good lord, Claussen DOES suck If you're getting knocked around by Uribe and Anderson, AAA has to be in your immediate future, if not a new job as an insurance salesman.
  23. The bottom of the order is on fire.
  24. Widger. How did the White Sox suddenly learn how to bunt?
  25. QUOTE(Heads22 @ Jun 16, 2006 -> 06:54 PM) Oh God, Hawk is gonna start talking NASCAR. "I'll tell ya what....that Ricky Rudd is one of the toughest SOB's on the circuit. Back in the day, him, Yaz and I would drive golf balls deep into the night." What was Catfish doing?
