6/1/06 Game Thread: White Sox @ Indians
QUOTE(elrockinMT @ Jun 1, 2006 -> 06:44 PM) Are we forgetting that Pods played CF in Milwaukee? Give me something more to understand our seemingly unbending certainity that Pods can't play CF. What were his fielding stats in the Beer Town? He wasn't a very good CF in Milwaukee, and didn't look very good in CF the couple games he played there last year. Keep him in LF.

QUOTE(aboz56 @ Jun 1, 2006 -> 06:41 PM) Cleveland announcers just mentioned that Podsednik has told Ozzie he'd move to CF if need be. And I just felt my dinner start to come up. Pods is better in CF than Mackowiak, but that's not saying much. If the Sox could acquire a LF with Rickey Henderson in his prime type range, it could work out.

Why is it every time a White Sox gets caught stealing or a hit and run goes bad, the batter then always reaches base.

Contreras looks like he isn't comfortable physically. He's not dropping down. Maybe his back is bothering him.

I wouldn't mind a walk here. This guy kills the Sox.

Cesar Izturis
The Sox already have a slick-fielding weak-hitting SS. I rather have the guy with the better arm, who has more power. Unless Izturis is considered a back-up at all infield positions, maybe taking Cintron's place for the better defense.

QUOTE(fathom @ Jun 1, 2006 -> 10:26 AM) This is the lineup I'd like to see tonight: Pods, Iguchi, Thome, Dye, AJP, Crede, Gload, Mackowiak, Cintron Ozzie takes your advice. Either that or you're Batman. Please tell him to never ever put Politte in the game if there's any chance at winning again.

Carl Crawford
QUOTE(Felix @ Jun 1, 2006 -> 02:43 PM) GARLAND CANNOT BE TRADED. HIS CONTRACT INCLUDES A NO TRADE CLAUSE THIS YEAR. (maybe if I put it in caps, people will realize it) He can't be traded without his approval. Contreras had a no-trade when he was dealt to the White Sox. That said, I think there's only a couple of places Garland would be willing to go, and I doubt Tampa would be on that list. I also doubt Tampa would want his contract.

QUOTE(My Dixie Normus @ Jun 1, 2006 -> 02:36 PM) Give them Garland and Anderson. CC can hit #2 (and steal bases) and move Gooch to 6. Pods (L) CC (L) Thome (L) Konerko ® Dye ® Gooch (the second leadoff man) ® Crede ® AJP (L) Uribe/Cintron/Mac (R/S/L) We would hit them with so many lefts they would be praying for a right. Starters MB JC FG JV BM They would never do it but, it would be nice. That's the other problem. The line-up becomes almost too left-handed. Especially since the bench is mostly lefty.

QUOTE(Balta1701 @ Jun 1, 2006 -> 02:33 PM) Given who's in front of Rogowski at this point, including him in a deal would be absolutely ideal. He has almost as many steals this season as Owens. My how Jerry Owens' star has faded. KW was beeming about him at Soxfest, calling him a CF.

Carl Crawford
Crawford is great, probably can play CF, and if the Sox sent Anderson back for more seasoning in Charlotte with the intention of bringing him back up in 2007, could slide into LF and make Pods trade bait. I mentioned him a week or so ago, but I don't think KW would trade for him. He'd would have to give up a lot, and leave the Sox with very little to dangle if they have more holes to fill, as well as handcuff them financially. Anderson's lack of hitting is not the problem with this team. Fix the bullpen enough where if McCarthy has to start for Garcia or Garland, which I believe is likely to happen, you can have something out there for the 6th and 7th inning that won't let the game get away. Pick up someone you can and will actually use in Gload's spot. See if anyone is stupid enough to take Politte off your hands. Thome, Konerko and Dye aren't going to be able to all hit 45 homers this season. The offense is going to slow down. KW needs some more pitching in the bullpen to slow down the opposition.

Can anyone honestly dispute this???
QUOTE(DannyCooksey @ May 31, 2006 -> 06:43 PM) Hawk also claimed during Monday's broadcast that Ozzie Guillen was the greatest split-finger fastball hitter he ever saw. That's laughable. He topped that one off by claiming that Darrin Jackson led the '94 Sox in hitting. That's just pure stupidity, followed by unabashed laziness. Hawk broadcast games for the '94 team. How could he not know that Frank Thomas led the team in hitting that year, winning his secong staright MVP??? The worst part??? He has a phonebook size media guide staring him in the face that would save him from such foolish remarks, but he is too lazy and arrogant to actually open it. He is worhtless. I can't stand Hawk. Actually Ozzie was pretty awesome at hitting splitters. I think Hawk got DJ and Wimpy confused, as Wimpy led the 1983 White Sox in hitting. I get on Hawk from time to time, but he is entertaining to me and I am happy we have him instead of the broadcast school product you see so often these days.

QUOTE(Melissa1334 @ May 31, 2006 -> 08:57 PM) hes a gold glove cf'er, i dont think he would want to play rf....but when it comes to money, they play anywhere i guess A-Rod's playing 3rd, even though he's a better SS than Jeter.

QUOTE(Frankensteiner @ May 31, 2006 -> 08:49 PM) I don't think it was Rios. I thought it was Wells they were trying to trade. It definitely was Rios. They were pissed off at him for something.

Listening to Hawk and DJ describe Cleveland pitchers, its amazing anyone ever scores a run off them.

QUOTE(fathom @ May 31, 2006 -> 08:42 PM) I think if you asked everyone on this site who was the one player they were sure wouldn't match their numbers from last season, it was Politte. According to one statistic, he was the luckiest pitcher in all of baseball last season. Just be grateful he was so good for us last season. Shockingly, many on this site thought Politte would match last year or come close. I received a lot of criticism for displaying my doubts.

QUOTE(Frankensteiner @ May 31, 2006 -> 08:35 PM) Bullpen help wasn't the problem yesterday. The two automatic outs at the end of the lineup were. Over the long haul, the BP is going to be much more important. We don't have the automatic out in CF tonight, yet the White Sox offense has a goose egg, and Garcia has 2 more earned runs against him than he would have if the automatic out was in tonight's game.

QUOTE(Frankensteiner @ May 31, 2006 -> 08:25 PM) I'm trying to figure out why Minnesota wouldn't trade Hunter to the White Sox. The guy's a free agent at the end of the year anyway. If the Sox want him, they can sign him at that point. The White Sox haven't made a trade with the Twins since 1986. They also haven't made a trade with any team in the AL Central since the division's existence. Trading one of the faces of your franchise to a team you will see 19 times a year generally doesn't happen. It would really make Minnesota look bad if he was successful and beat them consistently. If he signed as a free agent, that would be the player's choice, so it wouldn't haunt the organization as much. I also think Hunter has a $10 million option for next season.

QUOTE(fathom @ May 31, 2006 -> 08:15 PM) Is it being a bad fan to hope Politte gets rocked here, and makes the Sox consider another pitching roster move? If they don't realize he can't get the job done by now, I don't think a 4 or 5 spot here will help get it through their heads.

QUOTE(BigSqwert @ May 31, 2006 -> 08:14 PM) Why is Cliff still on this team? Absolutely worthless right now. He pitches in blowouts. He also could be used for beanings.
