anyway this sucks but he's not worth that much, especially to a team looking to rebuild.

didn't Mark talk about playing for Ozzie during the whole meltdown?

Republican 2012 Nomination Thread
Don't forget this gem: "I have two grandchildren — Maggie is 11, Robert is 9," Gingrich said at Cornerstone Church here. "I am convinced that if we do not decisively win the struggle over the nature of America, by the time they're my age they will be in a secular atheist country, potentially one dominated by radical Islamists and with no understanding of what it once meant to be an American." Edit: Paul is principled, but he's still pretty nutty when it comes to a lot of domestic issues and especially his love of gold.

Republican 2012 Nomination Thread
I'm not ashamed to admit that I'm a Christian, but you don't need to be in the pew every Sunday to know there's something wrong in this country when gays can serve openly in the military but our kids can't openly celebrate Christmas or pray in school. As President, I'll end Obama's war on religion. And I'll fight against liberal attacks on our religious heritage. Faith made America strong. It can make her strong again. I'm Rick Perry and I approve this message. But hey, it's totally unfair to characterize this crop of candidates as a bunch of ridiculous nuts.

Any word on if he'll get to stay out of prison during the inevitable appeal?

Top US Cities
QUOTE (iamshack @ Dec 7, 2011 -> 09:57 AM) LA gets ragged on because of the pollution and the traffic. But there's a reason for all the traffic and the pollution - because so many people want to live there! The weather, the entertainment, the beaches, the food, the people...there are tons of reasons to live in LA. Not saying I would want to do it without lots of money, but let's not act like it's not a world-class city, folks. Lots of people like Justin Beiber and Twilight, not sure if mass appeal is the best way to judge! I don't begrudge anyone that does like LA, it just isn't for me.

Top US Cities
QUOTE (NorthSideSox72 @ Dec 7, 2011 -> 09:49 AM) A giant, never-ending blob of plastic suburbia. That's what I dislike so much. It's pretty much all sprawl. It's ugly.

QUOTE (Milkman delivers @ Dec 7, 2011 -> 09:50 AM) What major-ish cities are there on the coast between LA and San Francisco? I know there's quite a bit of space there. None that I know of. It was a comment more on how I'd take basically any part of California other than LA.

QUOTE (Milkman delivers @ Dec 7, 2011 -> 09:35 AM) I can't remember the last good thing I heard about LA. San Diego would be great. I was up in the Central California Coast last week, that would be amazing. San Fran area would be great, too. LA? Absolutely zero desire.

Sergio Santos traded to Toronto
QUOTE (CyAcosta41 @ Dec 6, 2011 -> 04:03 PM) Ex-Sox Santo(s) Elected to HOF That's what I read that thread title as, I thought it was a sarcastic response to some of the Santos love.

QUOTE (LittleHurt05 @ Dec 6, 2011 -> 03:55 PM) They also had Jared Mitchell as #55 & Tyler Flowers as #60

Sergio Santos traded to Toronto
QUOTE (LittleHurt05 @ Dec 6, 2011 -> 03:52 PM) A quick Google search says BA had him as #58 to start 2010, so top 50? No. But damn close. for some reason I didn't think he was in the top 100.

Sergio Santos traded to Toronto
QUOTE (LittleHurt05 @ Dec 6, 2011 -> 03:40 PM) A catcher who put up a .779 OPS at the age of 24? I'd say that's a bit more than "not that much". He wasn't a Top 50 prospect, right? In retrospect it was a lot but that doesn't really relate to my comment that a Top 50 prospect for Santos would be a pretty damn good return.

QUOTE (Soxfest @ Dec 6, 2011 -> 03:28 PM) Here is one opinion. http://seedlingstostars.com/2011/11/24/the...-nestor-molina/ QUOTE (danman31 @ Dec 6, 2011 -> 03:29 PM) A so-so starting pitcher is at least as valuable as a good closer. These guys did QUOTE (BaseballNick @ Dec 6, 2011 -> 03:32 PM) Your post inspired me to do a quick search of "top 100 MLB prospects 2012." The first one I clicked on was http://fantasyrundown.com/2012_MLB_Prospects.html and they have Nestor Molina at #44 overall. I haven't heard of this publication, but a lot of the usual prospect names are on the list (Jesus Montero, Brett Jackson, Yasmani Grandal, Bubba Starling etc.) and it is being updated to account for the 2011 season and 2011 draft. ty!

Sergio Santos traded to Toronto
QUOTE (Jordan4life @ Dec 6, 2011 -> 03:23 PM) Most top prospects lists (Baseball America, Baseball Prospectus) have yet to be released. Molina's status has gone up considerably over the last year. That #18 ranking is probably some list from over a year ago. Minor League Ball, another prospect-centric site, has Molina ranked #2 in their system. http://www.minorleagueball.com/2011/11/30/...spects-for-2012 Right, so why are a couple of people referring to him as a Top 50 prospect? That's what I'm confused about.

Sergio Santos traded to Toronto
QUOTE (Jordan4life @ Dec 6, 2011 -> 03:13 PM) A top 50 prospect in all of baseball? Please tell me that's not part of your criteria for what a successful haul would've been for Santos? No, I've seen the "Top 50" claim several times in this thread now. What I heard on the radio (#18 in the Blue Jays deep system) is drastically different from that. edit: I'm just looking for clarification there. A Top 50 prospect for Santos would be pretty ridiculous.

Sergio Santos traded to Toronto
QUOTE (Balta1701 @ Dec 6, 2011 -> 03:12 PM) Not really, he could just be a scouting success. That background doesn't say nearly as much as his numbers. If we run with the premise that he was generally unknown to those inside baseball, then his value would be pretty low. Seemingly lower than a relatively young relief pitcher with some MLB success and a cheap contract for several years.

Sergio Santos traded to Toronto
QUOTE (iamshack @ Dec 6, 2011 -> 03:08 PM) He wasn't generally unknown to those who make it their business to know these things. Right, I'm not sure that was really a strong point. But reports are pretty mixed right now, with some seeing his ceiling as a middle-of-the-rotation guy and others as middle-of-the-bullpen caliber. Zero!

Who has him ranked as a Top 50 prospect? I've seen that referenced a few times now.

2011 Films Thread
QUOTE (Buehrle>Wood @ Dec 6, 2011 -> 02:06 PM) I think I've said this previously, but Winter's Bone is quite literally the worst movie I have ever seen. Just awful. What? Why?

Sergio Santos traded to Toronto
QUOTE (iamshack @ Dec 6, 2011 -> 03:04 PM) So is the idea that 99% of us, who had no idea who Nestor Molina even was 130 minutes ago, can have an informed opinion at this point, is pretty ridiculous as well. This is going to be one of those deals where you just wait and see... That he was a generally unknown AA converted pitching prospect says something, though.

Sergio Santos traded to Toronto
QUOTE (bmags @ Dec 6, 2011 -> 02:55 PM) But we do have a centuries worth of case studies of trades happening in this league. Some trade negotiators make great trades and some make really bad ones. They are not all equal. The idea that no one outside of MLB can evaluate whether a trade is good or bad is pretty ridiculous.
