  1. QUOTE (lostfan @ May 2, 2011 -> 05:59 PM) About the scrambling jets thing yeah. Had the Pakistani government been briefed it'd have been leaked to the ISI and everyone would've been evacuated and the whole thing would've been an embarrassing debacle to the administration. If there was any doubt that the ISI was unreliable AT BEST this should be the final nail in the coffin Yeah after hearing how it went down this morning, I assumed it was a giant "f*** you, we know you're in bed with him" to the ISI.
  2. QUOTE (Milkman delivers @ May 2, 2011 -> 04:38 PM) I agree with Rock. The guy is clearly on his pulpit just halfway through the first paragraph. What a pompous ass. Yeah, Greenwald tends to come across as a pompous ass pretty often. That wasn't what I was commenting on. QUOTE (RockRaines @ May 2, 2011 -> 04:39 PM) Thats funny, because all I said is the evaluation was subjective and that I had a differing opinion. No, that's not all you said. You said it was a "look at me piece," and in combination with this earlier post: QUOTE (RockRaines @ May 2, 2011 -> 03:46 PM) Theres always going to be someone with a differing opinion because they like to be different. It looks like you're dismissing the opinions of anyone who is even a little taken aback by the reactions of Americans portrayed on TV is just doing so far attention, like a teenage acting out would. That's more the reaction I would have expected. Gatherings, obviously a positive mood, maybe some vigils and remembrance for the victims. Not cheering*, not chanting, not unbridled nationalism because we killed a Bad Guy. *No problem with the Phillies-Mets type stuff, just to clarify.
  3. QUOTE (RockRaines @ May 2, 2011 -> 04:27 PM) How about here is a piece by Greenwald. Calling it good is very subjective as I find it to be a "look at me" piece. You know, pretending that anyone who isn't cheerleading this right now is somehow just exhibiting teenaged angst sort of validates his opening point.
  4. QUOTE (Milkman delivers @ May 2, 2011 -> 03:57 PM) I don't want to get into a political debate, but I might as well say this. The major Republicans who have come out are not trying to take credit away from Obama. It's only the nuts that you'll see do that. I think the Republicans know that it would be a bad PR move to turn this into a pissing match about who deserves credit. You come out looking much better if you just align yourselves with the victory by congratulating those in power rather than trying to say you deserve the credit and they don't. Congressional Republicans had a good press conf earlier today
  5. QUOTE (Jenksismyb**** @ May 2, 2011 -> 03:56 PM) I'm sure it'll happen eventually, but I have yet to read or hear of any political figure from either party doing this. Rush was already talking about it, giving Obama credit for sticking with Bush/Republican policies that lead to this mission.
  6. QUOTE (Jenksismyb**** @ May 2, 2011 -> 03:54 PM) I'm sure it was an order to take him alive if he was willing but to leave absolute no chance of him escaping. The more I think about it the more I think i'm ok with that. Him alive in handcuffs would have been great TV though. Also, how wild would it have been to be one of those seal guys. To actually get in there and see that it was Bin Laden. In their minds you think they were like "holy s***, that's the guy we've been looking at in videos and photographs for 10 years." Honestly, there probably wasn't much time for thought or reflection at the time. They were just finishing up a 40 minute assault on a compound in a foreign country that didn't know they were there. Before and after the mission, though, I'm sure.
  7. QUOTE (RockRaines @ May 2, 2011 -> 03:54 PM) I think its more pathetic that people are trying to make this into a political lynchpin. The people that were murdered by OBL werent left, right, middle,or even all American. They were people. I wish some of the talking heads could focus back on those victims instead of whose damn party did what. FWIW OBL and Al Qaeda have killed many people on other countries as well. Like I said earlier in the thread, the whole world has a good reason to be happy that he's gone. Not shocked that this instantly turned into "how does this help Obama?" for Dems and "damage control" for guys like Rush in less than 24 hours.
  8. QUOTE (Jenksismyb**** @ May 2, 2011 -> 03:47 PM) I just read an article with an intelligence source that said they were willing to take him alive but he resisted so they didn't. During the press conference a little while ago, you had one quote saying that directly above a scrolling quote saying the mission was to kill him. Honestly that was the best option imo, no need to drag that out into months of political debates over a trial.
  9. QUOTE (RockRaines @ May 2, 2011 -> 03:46 PM) Theres always going to be someone with a differing opinion because they like to be different.
  10. QUOTE (greg775 @ May 2, 2011 -> 03:36 PM) What are they going to do with the body though? Return it to his family? He's been dumped in the Persian Gulf buried at sea already. Saudi didn't want his body and his family disowned him decades ago.
  11. QUOTE (Balta1701 @ May 2, 2011 -> 03:34 PM) Anyone think we'll ever hear the person who actually pulled the trigger speak? I'm assuming someone will get the MoH (or some other really high commendation) for this, whether it's the actual guy who pulled the trigger... BTW reports are that he was double-tapped in the head, I've no doubts that this was a straight-up assassination mission.
  12. QUOTE (daa84 @ May 2, 2011 -> 03:27 PM) extraordinarily satisfied and happy with this obviously....but im gonna drop in my 2cents about the celebration thing and then (hopefully) not say another word about it :snip: iawtp QUOTE (greg775 @ May 2, 2011 -> 03:28 PM) I believe he's dead. I do believe. I'm just saying I don't think it's healthy to blindly trust government. No one is doing that.
  13. QUOTE (Controlled Chaos @ May 2, 2011 -> 03:22 PM) What we should all agree on though...is the Navy SEALS are the most bad ass heroic individuals on the planet!!! Various other Special Forces groups would disagree! They are all half-joking with each other over who really did this, even if Seal Team Six is the one who always gets the credit.

  15. If Osama wasn't dead, we'd have an "lol nope" tape by now.

    Dunn

QUOTE (witesoxfan @ May 1, 2011 -> 10:17 PM) Dunn's .623 OPS is the 4th highest among White Sox starters. Wow, that really puts how terrible this team is into perspective.
  17. QUOTE (witesoxfan @ May 1, 2011 -> 10:28 PM) Dead last in runs allowed and 11th in ERA - they have already allowed 18 unearned runs - so that's not all on the pitching staff. Beyond that, the White Sox pitching staff has been really good over the past few years. It was only the 8th best in the league last year, but was 4.09 overall. In 2009, it was 4.14, which was 2nd best; 4.06 in 2008, good for 6th. It was really bad in 2007 but they didn't have a lot of talent on that staff either. It struggled in 2006 but much of that is thought to be due to the deep World Series run the year before, where they were tied for the best ERA in the league. The offense consistently does what it is currently doing, where it goes completely dead for an extended period of time before waking up a bit for the summer months, only to fall by the wayside again late in the year. Young players continue to struggle upon arriving with the Sox too, which is not a good sign. It just doesn't seem that he is properly preparing these hitters for each game. I've seen where he works really hard at his job, but at some point hard work has to be met with results, and it hasn't. A change wouldn't be a bad thing, but I honestly don't care either way. I do think Coop has earned some slack, especially for the work he's done with young pitchers Yeah, Coop has several reclamation projects under his belt, he's earned some slack.
  18. QUOTE (Jenksismyb**** @ May 2, 2011 -> 02:46 PM) Can we all agree on this at least: QUOTE (Milkman delivers @ May 2, 2011 -> 02:50 PM) Haha, I f***ing love Mark Twain. Yes and yes.
  19. QUOTE (Jenksismyb**** @ May 2, 2011 -> 02:43 PM) Seriously? I just don't get this. Sure, there might be a celebration that went a little TOO far, but something like that Mets/Phillies game last night really moved me. Thousands of people slowly getting the news from their phones and then chanting USA. That was awesome IMO. Same with people gathering at the White House and Ground Zero and countless other places singing God Bless America. Those types of acts show that the country is still united. Well I think that was the off-putting part, really. I don't want to get into it right now, there's good reason for people around the world, not just Americans, to find joy and comfort in his death. QUOTE (Milkman delivers @ May 2, 2011 -> 02:48 PM) I'm sure you get it. I get it. It is strange that people would celebrate a death, but that's not stopping me from doing so. This, more or less, combined with singing "God Bless America" because we shot our enemy in the head is unsettling to me.
  20. I find the open celebrations a little off-putting.
  21. QUOTE (Tex @ May 1, 2011 -> 07:50 PM) Naw kid you suck at baseball. The last thing I want to do is watch you wiff. hey dad, tell me again about the days when Chicago had two teams . . . I don't have a problem with anyone still going to games or maintaining optimism about this team. What I do have a problem with is others trying to dictate what a "true fan" is and trying to de-legitimize any opposing opinions. This goes both ways and isn't directed at you.
  22. Hey son, want to go blow $200 on a Sox game this weekend? Nah dad, they're terrible, let's go to the batting cages instead, and then donate the money to a food shelter!
  23. QUOTE (Paint it Black @ May 1, 2011 -> 05:05 PM) The Tigers are a personal thing for me, as I didn't think they were that good to start the season and I still don't. Nor did I think it would take 90 wins to win this division...and I still don't. The Indians just cannot keep this up. I mean I know I can't really prove why they won't, but their pitching isn't that good and there is no way the guys who are always injured (Sizemore, Hafner) will stay healthy all year. The Indians have now won 13 straight at home. That correction will be very, very fun. Hopefully we catch them when it's happening. Translation: my wishful thinking re: other teams in the division means your opinions on this teams' play is stupid! Ozzie4EVER!
  24. Watch the full 18 minutes, it's hilarious. He gets some really good burns in on Trump.
  25. QUOTE (Milkman delivers @ May 1, 2011 -> 05:36 PM) And we still failed in the end. That's the best part of all the comparisons to the great run they had last year--they still failed in the end because of the massive hole they put themselves in. I'm not planning on spending a dime on this team this year. I was really excited before the season started and almost pulled the trigger on an Ozzie plan. Really glad I didn't do that.
