Erstad/Anderson MEGAThread
QUOTE(RibbieRubarb @ Apr 19, 2007 -> 12:30 PM) Spoiled by the avalanche of World Series Championships in the past century, eh? No, sick of Ozzie apologists saying "BUT HE WON A WORLD SERIES!!!!11!!1111" as justification for every bad move he makes.

QUOTE(RibbieRubarb @ Apr 19, 2007 -> 12:23 PM) Logic + Ozzie = 2005 WORLD SERIES CHAMPIONS Does that compute?? Unstoppable pitching staff = 2005 World Series Champions It doesn't take much managerial skill when your pitching staff throws back-to-back-to-back-to-back CG's. That's just pure domination. Ozzie won a WS in 2005. Good for him, time to move on. And it certainly doesn't justify and stupid decisions or non-decisions he makes now. Hell, even during 2005, he made some genius moves like playing Timo at 1B.

Erstad/Anderson MEGAThread
QUOTE(AddisonStSox @ Apr 19, 2007 -> 12:16 PM) The armchair managing has reached epic proportions the likes of which I have never see before. Anderson was virtually handed a starting outfield position for a defending-champion roster on a golden platter and could not capitalize on it. He was renown for being one of "Kenny's guys." and the two better center field options in the organization were cleared out of the way so that Anderson would essentially be handed the spot. And yet, the organization is out to get Brian Anderson. The way this has been playing out on this board has been cracking me up. A rookie struggled at the plate (but improved), alert the press! He played great in the field and batted decently for several months after the ASB. I don't see how anyone can justify keeping GRINDERstad out in CF right now. Does he offer a single advantage over BA?

For Dems only.
It's good that we have people who have such blatant disrespect for the law and legal process heading up the Executive Branch.

QUOTE(Balta1701 @ Apr 19, 2007 -> 11:54 AM) I think that based on last year, they can only go so long with him hitting like Anderson before they give someone else a legit shot. It would help if B.A. could get some good at bats in the backup role they've given him, but so far that hasn't happened. But seriously, can they live with another CF hitting below the Mendoza line throughout April and May again? If they wait that long to give BA a shot, he'll be just as bad at the plate as Erstad. It's a lose-lose.

For Dems only.
Is there any way they can get their hands on the appropriate servers and recover any of those emails, or any legal recourse for such a blatant action? Obstruction of justice?

White Sox vs. Rangers, 4/19/07 (W)
My prediction: Vaz will go 7.1, giving up 2 runs.

QUOTE(Balta1701 @ Apr 19, 2007 -> 11:12 AM) So, I don't understand this at all, but I'm going to point it out, because it appears to be fact. Ozzie Guillen will not take Scott Podsednik out of LF for a defensive replacement late in games. Ozzie Guillen will take Rob Mackowiak out of LF for a defensive replacement late in games. Logic + Ozzie = Does Not Compute.

Brian Anderson
That reminds me of one of the various times Rowand crashed into the wall in 2005 and DJ shouted "You want me on that wall, YOU NEED ME ON THAT WALL!" QUOTE(fathom @ Apr 19, 2007 -> 11:07 AM) Even if he's right, Anderson needs to STFU. These types of comments are going to do nothing but irritate Ozzie and KW. Honestly, why should he care at this point? Maybe it'll get them to ship him outta here sooner so that he can get on with his career. It's not going to go anywhere playing under Ozzie.

Gun control debate
From another forum: "The mentality I have seen most Law enforcement personnel display does not give me any confidence in their abilities. In addition, most law enforcement training is rather lacking. A firearms training facility in Nevada is running a 26 episode challenge between "trained" law enforcement personnel and "plain aficionados" that have gone through their training. The "plain aficionados" have won in the neighborhood of 80% of the competitions. Check out www.frontsight.com to learn about the facility." Would people be more comfortable if getting a concealed carry permit required training at a facility such as this? Here's another story: "Keep in mind another data-point. In Israel, everyone can carry a concealed weapon. Recently, when an Arab terrorist attempted to hijack a bus about 4-6 people wound up pointing guns at him. Off to jail he went. Later, he reportedly commented that he was never told by his 'trainers' that Israeli citizens are armed to the hilt." No Rambos. No cross-fire fatalities. Just a potentially lethal situation adverted by armed citizens who refused to just be victims.

QUOTE(SoxAce @ Apr 18, 2007 -> 10:15 PM) My hate for Sammy Sosa grows more. WTF is he doing taking a god damn walk? He got picked off though. This has to count as somewhere in between a no-hitter and a perfect game.

Gun control debate
QUOTE(Texsox @ Apr 18, 2007 -> 05:05 PM) A criminal background check would not have turned up anything that would negate his right to bear arms. His medical history would have possibly been confidential, and unless Illinois changed since I lived there, that reporting is voluntary by the applicant. Paperwork isn't automatically filed to the state? Seems like that should probably change.

Stupid, idiotic commercials.
McDonald's commercials have been really, really annoying since "I'm loving it" started several years ago. I've begun boycotting companies if their commercials are stupid/ annoy me enough. I really don't understand how some people in marketing keep jobs based on the crap they put out.

Gun control debate
QUOTE(Balta1701 @ Apr 18, 2007 -> 04:56 PM) Ok, now this is just getting excessive. Forget the concealed weapons debate for a moment here. Can someone please explain to me exactly why a person who is found mentally ill and potentially dangerous by a court of law, has been committed temporarily to a mental institution by his parents, and is if nothing else a potential suicide threat should be allowed to walk into a store anywhere and buy a couple of guns and a mountain of ammunition? He shouldn't. I don't think he would have been able to in Illinois if the proper paperwork were filed.
