  1. Rubio says their 1.4T tax cut for the rich is just the first step before gutting social security and Medicare, because deficits https://twitter.com/GlennKesslerWP/status/9...src=twsrc%5Etfw
  2. Conyers to announce retirement in January but serve out term https://twitter.com/AaronBlake/status/936001032001376256 e: never mind, now his lawyer is saying this isn't true.
  3. Per the tweet I linked above, it's not abnormal there. Just sounds really creepy in context.
  4. QUOTE (JenksIsMyHero @ Nov 29, 2017 -> 04:21 PM) Eh, I could see him wanting one so he's not bothered. I'm sure he's the type to have an office with a couch and whatnot. I'm sure those people (morning show hosts) take naps during the day since they have to get up at like 4am. You don't need a button at your desk in order to be able to close or lock a door.
  5. QUOTE (BigSqwert @ Nov 29, 2017 -> 03:20 PM) Is he a big time DIYer because I have no idea who the hell would have installed that Bond villain locking mechanism for him. It's like this, but for sexual harassment (I never remember how to embed yt videos here) Apparently, several higher-ups at NBC have this feature. NBC not having a great 13 months here. Covered up the Access Hollywood tape, tried covering up for Weintsein, and they had to have known about Lauer for a while.
  6. The Variety story on Lauer is out http://variety.com/2017/biz/news/matt-laue...men-1202625959/ dumb all boomers into the ocean e: good lord
  7. The GOP's latest idea: When their tax plan to shovel money to businesses and the rich inevitably blows a hole in the budget, build in automatic spending cuts!
  8. Another thing buried in the GOP tax bill: opening up ANWR for oil exploitation.
  9. Keillor published an editorial yesterday in WaPo defending Franken
  10. Jesus, whatever Garrison did must have been bad. They're not just firing him, they're scrubbing all old PHC broadcasts with him in it and renaming the show. VV the "Salem Witch Trials" or "Red Scare" analogy only works if the allegations are fake. It's not like Elizabeth Proctor was actually practicing witchcraft.
  11. Alabama Rep. Mo Brooks: Roy Moore accuser forged yearbook inscription, is 'clearly a liar'
  12. QUOTE (southsider2k5 @ Nov 29, 2017 -> 11:10 AM) 80% return this MONTH. 1000+% return in the last 12 months. Yeah, I remember thinking "lol what a dumb gimmick thing, this is bound to crash" when it was at like $100. If you managed to hold on to it and not have it stolen off one of the many scam exchanges and didn't cash out along the way as it kept going up, Up, UP, you could be sitting on 10,000% returns or greater in just a few years. A friend of a friend works at a financial services company, and they were trying to figure out how to withdraw a client's bitcoins into real cash a couple of months back. He had "sold" his friend an old beater car for bitcoins four or five years ago and had largely forgotten about them, not expecting them to ever be worth anything. He's now sitting on several hundred thousand dollars worth. IIRC they're having to withdraw it in chunks at a time because the exchanges have limits and it's not easy to get more than $5-10k out at a time.
  13. QUOTE (RockRaines @ Nov 29, 2017 -> 10:53 AM) When you pulling out? I have a co-worker who has put in a couple hundred thousand pretty early. He needs to pull the plug now. Jesus, depending on what "pretty early" means, that could be worth millions, tens of millions, or hundreds of millions (if he can actually get all of it out, lol)
  14. It's based on drugs, money laundering and child pornography. IIRC it uses as much electricity a day as a small country to not actually produce anything.
  15. This should surprise nobody, but: Trump's Tax Promises Undercut by CEO Plans to Reward Investors
  16. QUOTE (LittleHurt05 @ Nov 29, 2017 -> 09:23 AM) He's your old relative on Facebook. Except for the whole leader of the free world thing. His aides should give him a side fake Twitter account that he thinks is the real deal, he probably wouldn't even notice. and he's got an army of people making excuses/justifications for promoting fake anti-Muslim/immigrant propaganda from British fascists convicted of hate crimes, and tens of millions of people eager to eat it up
  17. QUOTE (southsider2k5 @ Nov 27, 2017 -> 10:24 AM) The Associated Press‏Verified account @AP 6m6 minutes ago BREAKING: White House official: Trump will not campaign for embattled Alabama Senate candidate Roy Moore before Dec. 12 election. https://www.politico.com/story/2017/11/29/t...a-senate-267825 (this is also a blatant violation of the Hatch Act, but it won't matter)
  18. He was caught on tape bragging about sexually assaulting women and getting away with it because of his power and fame and had over a dozen accusers come forward. Republicans in Alabama are about to elect a man who is facing multiple serious child predator allegations. It wouldn't matter.
  19. House GOP to Propose Sweeping Changes to Higher Education Caps student loans, eliminates loan forgiveness, greatly reduces regulations on for-profit colleges (which are largely high-priced diploma mills)
  20. QUOTE (Balta1701 @ Nov 29, 2017 -> 09:15 AM) So everyone remembers when Matt Lauer moderated a candidate forum and spent 1/2 his time asking someone about emails right? Birds of a feather. Lauer has tens of millions of dollars and, aside from a tarnished reputation, won't ever face any real consequences for his behavior.
  21. QUOTE (KagakuOtoko @ Nov 29, 2017 -> 09:11 AM) A murder? What on earth? Back when Scarborough was a House Rep in 2001, an intern was found dead in his office. It seemed suspicious at first, but medical examiners ruled it as a natural death caused by a previously undiagnosed heart condition. Trump is more or less accusing Scarborough of having killed her, which is a rumor that has circulated since the story first happened.
  22. QUOTE (Big Hurtin @ Nov 29, 2017 -> 09:07 AM) Something HAS to be about to drop. He’s manic this morning. Or he's just a petty, mentally degrading racist asshole with a huge public platform and the need for the attention to always be on himself.
  23. Franken won't step down unless something more serious comes out, Moore will win, maybe Conyers gets the boot.
  24. Trump is still peddling birtherism among other insane conspiracy theories behind closed doors. Last November was a test of basic human decency that over 61 million Americans failed.
  25. I guess Variety and NYT both have stories in the works about Lauer that NBC was aware of (probably contacted for comments) that are pretty damning.
