  1. QUOTE (RockRaines @ Nov 8, 2016 -> 10:22 AM) Because they cannot figure out the security OR the bandwith issues they would face with deploying those. Yeah analog is actually typically much, much easier to handle for security issues than anything IP-based. Our archaic and balkanized voting system actually makes it harder to systematically manipulate.
  2. Me, for election day coverage "HOOK IT TO MY VEINS!"
  3. when clinton wins, there's also these lists https://twitter.com/stuplimity/lists/djt-corncob-crew https://twitter.com/esembrat/lists/tiny-hands-feelers https://twitter.com/NewsFedora/lists/corncobs https://twitter.com/SaltMines2016/lists/saltmines2016 ("corncobs" is a reference to a dril tweet)
  4. Some states they're appointed, other states they aren't. I'd imagine they became elected positions in the late 19th century as a push back against patronage and machine politics corruption, but it seems more hurtful than helpful these days.
  5. QUOTE (bmags @ Nov 8, 2016 -> 09:59 AM) I can't stand that we vote for judges. It is impossible to have any assessment of them. I relied entirely on the Illinois Bar Association's guidance. Elected judges are dumb.
  6. QUOTE (bmags @ Nov 8, 2016 -> 09:52 AM) I think it will be late. NC/FL would be decisive, but both will be close and Florida doesn't call early usually. That said, we have had a large amount of early voting which perhaps means we get through counts earlier? I think we don't know before midnight. OTOH Hispanic early vote in Florida was up bigly and Broward is seeing voting at a pace that will break their turnout record by 1PM. If some of the Latino-focused polling firms are correct and the rest of the national polling firms were seriously undercounting the Latino vote this year, it could be over fairly early. All just guess work though and we'll know how much that's worth in less than 12 hours.
  7. Yeah, the networks won't call it until they can actually call enough states to push someone over 270, but if they start calling FL, OH, and NC for Clinton, then it's already over.
  8. realistically, probably no early than 2012 which was around 1030 CDT. If Florida and NC go Clinton, the election will be over whenever those are called. If Trump manages to win in every swing state on the east coast, it'll be over when Nevada is called probably some time early tomorrow.
  9. Considering signing up for a 7 day free trial of Showtime to watch Colbert's special tonight
  10. If Paul Manafort hadn't faked mechanical problems with Trump's plane and convinced Trump to take on Pence, Christie would be the VP candidate right now.
  11. eh I assume we're all just going to treat this as the main election day thread anyway, no reason to create even more threads for house/senate/local stuff speaking of, here's a pretty good summary of what House races to watch tonight. Republicans are almost definitely going to hold the House, but Democrats could definitely cut into their margins.
  12. QUOTE (bmags @ Nov 8, 2016 -> 08:51 AM) I voted against it. I understand reasoning behind it, but to me the strict rules on things like that always come back and bite you. Imagine a huge flood where lawmakers couldn't move funds out of the road funds to relief funds. Yeah that's why I didn't just mark "yes" right away, but god damn are Illinois' roads abysmal. Worse than literally every other state I've been to, and I've been to most of them at this point.
  13. QUOTE (bmags @ Nov 8, 2016 -> 08:47 AM) Curious to know how illinois voters here voted on the road fund amendments and consolidation proposal for cook county. I forgot to vote for that amendment and realized it the instant I sealed the envelop. I don't know how I would have voted (was leaving that to the end to finish looking into it) but was leaning towards being in favor of it. If it loses by one vote, blame me.
  14. CHAOS DUNK! from about a month ago but still funny imo
  15. damn it meant to post this last night when it was 24 hours before the first east coast polls would close, oh well QUOTE (Quinarvy @ Nov 8, 2016 -> 08:22 AM) Legitimately laughed out loud here. please rename this thread to 2016 Day of Gregoning
  16. Forward, not backward Upward, not forward And always twirling, twirling, twirling towards freedom!
  17. Reminder for everyone that early exit polls are garbage
  18. just in case you guys see any problems with people being hassled while voting tomorrow, here are the numbers to call: 1-800-OUR-VOTE (or Spanish language version: 1-888-839-8682). The DoJ also has a number you can call, which is: 1-800-253-3931
  19. I don't think the UK's recent voting results are hallmarks of more liberal and more sane politics if that's what you're looking for.
  20. QUOTE (bmags @ Nov 7, 2016 -> 03:29 PM) Is that the guy who said computers can't store 650k emails yesterday? Yes, which was dumb, but he's also broken several stories that would be substantial if not campaign-ending for any candidate but Trump such as Trump violating the Cuban embargo. Him and Farhenthold have done a ton of great work this year but it's largely gone under-reported.
  21. what happened to Bayh in Indiana? He had been looking pretty comfortable for awhile there.
