Also rumored that disgraced former fox news head and long time political conservative coordinator Roger ailes has been advising the campaign. Caught that Kelly Anne lady for a brief bit on fox while flipping through the channels last night, was trying to argue why it's good trump is down 10 points in every important swing state lol

Trumps law and order speech from Milwaukee (actually from a95% white community an hour north of Milwaukee) was predictably awful and full of nothing but dog whistles. He's also brought in the breitbart ceo who hates Ryan and McConnell to run his campaign along with one of his incompetent TV surrogates. He's sick of the "pivot" he thinks he's done, so expect even more unhinged nonsense going forward. https://www.washingtonpost.com/news/post-po...-his-own-image/

It was alleged/reported to have been run out of the White House by October of '72, though. It just wasn't getting that much attention at the time, and there wasn't a smoking gun yet. I don't know if there was enough widespread cynicism in public office at that point to believe a President would do all of the things Nixon was doing. And so much of it wasn't even necessary! He undermined himself so much.

I guess I hadn't realized until recently that the Watergate scandal broke before the 1972 Presidential elections, and Nixon still managed to win one of the biggest landslides in history, and that Nixon managed to hold office for two more years. I guess I had always assumed that the timeline was that the break-in happened in '73 or something.

Trumps foreign policy speech today called for "extreme vetting" of immigrants and their offspring (?) and a war spoils system.

I will admit to mainly following the trump hilarity this year, but I don't recall the specific scenario you claimed regarding cnn as Balta said. I'm generally familiar with the dnc emails story and didn't hear anything like that.
-
Cnn is garbage and I don't think you'll find many people defending them, but some links expanding on your claims would be helpful.

QUOTE (raBBit @ Aug 15, 2016 -> 01:43 PM) Who was the force behind Salaita's removal? Prominent donors and some of the people in the board. Again the actual academic reaction was widespread disgust and censor from academic bodies of u of i. The political reaction was largely one of support from conservatives as they tend to be strongly pro Israel. Painting that event as an example of liberal oppression is just baffling.
-
I don't know that I'd count what happened at u of i as being because of the left or liberals, we were generally pissed about it and there was a national movement of academics against that. You can dig through the old dem thread to see similar pattern here.

I don't think too many people here are buying into the Clinton Cash claims so that's a pretty loaded question. Msnbc doesn't present itself as a business network, maybe you're thinking of cnbc?

QUOTE (raBBit @ Aug 15, 2016 -> 01:10 PM) The posters who make up the majority of the posts in this thread and support a certain individual without exception would be the Hillary's camp I was referring to. Ah, got it. The Clinton campaign itself is just sitting back and watching trump punch himself in the face repeatedly. The comparison to Clinton foundation donations still doesn't work too well though because it's not like there's a loyal Saudi stooge running Clinton's campaign and changing democratic foreign policy.
-
The nyt is also not "Hillary's camp"

That story isn't about campaign contributions. It is about his campaign director having direct financial ties to pro-Russian Ukrainian dictators, which is relevant given the rhetoric and party platform changes favorable to Russia coming from the campaign. Eg https://twitter.com/BuzzFeedBen/status/765235041630822401 Manaforts interests just keep weirdly aligning with Russia. That's what the story is about, not donations.
-
Oh right we're already testing the theoretical depths a candidate can reach at this point, I'm just wondering what sort of legal trouble manafort might have gotten himself into. The books about this campaign will be incredible.

Millions in unreported corrupt payments from foreign governments seems like it ought to be illegal. Remember though Clinton having poor email server management is just as bad as this.

QUOTE (bmags @ Aug 15, 2016 -> 07:23 AM) I'm sure this is fine http://mobile.nytimes.com/2016/08/15/us/po...p.html?referer= So the trump campaign Russian ties are 100% confirmed at this point, then. I wonder what sort of legal trouble manafort might be in over these payments. The nyt is also promising more this week, and that it's even worse. https://twitter.com/AdamWeinstein/status/764992807236808704

Epistemic closure was something that the gop 2012 review highlighted as an issue, here's conservative talk show host Charlie Sykes commenting on it https://mobile.twitter.com/oliverdarcy/stat...909726278836225

Trump melting down over the nyt article about him and attacking the first amendment was fun yesterday.

How We Killed the Tea Party Greedy super PACs drained the movement with endless pleas for money to support “conservative” candidates—while instead using the money to enrich themselves. I should know. I worked for one of them.
