QUOTE (southsider2k5 @ Mar 31, 2016 -> 04:36 PM) That is very similar to the VA, seeing as veterans face insane delays for a lot of their care. It is honestly exactly what I would expect to happen in a universal medicare scenario. The VA is much closer to an nhs model than a single payer system. In this county, while Medicare and Medicaid aren't perfect, they provide Healthcare to millions of Americans and Medicare in particular is key to minimizing elderly poverty. Plus, we still have the example of literally every other developed country that provides more universal care at cheaper costs and typically better outcomes as well.

California is set to pass a $15 minimum wage

QUOTE (southsider2k5 @ Mar 31, 2016 -> 04:32 PM) There is nothing worse than the VA system. Nothing. It is an abject disaster. Millions having no access to care in the first place is at a minimum no worse.

QUOTE (southsider2k5 @ Mar 31, 2016 -> 04:07 PM) I will leave it with this thought. The two examples we have of the government being involved in health care are medicare and the VA. don't forget the example of "every other developed country in the world to varying degrees"

Trump wants abortions to be illegal and is okay with that leading to back-alley abortions, and he'd want women to be punished for obtaining abortions. It's a barbaric position to take, but I think everyone understands pretty clearly and doesn't think Trump wants to start rounding up women today with the laws as they currently are.
-
QUOTE (JenksIsMyHero @ Mar 31, 2016 -> 09:37 AM) Yes, of course people think that Trump wants to punish women who get abortions, regardless of the law. Hence why he had to back track with a statement yesterday. The whole discussion was premised on the fact that abortion gets outlawed and that women would therefore be doing something illegal. I'm not sure how ignoring that isn't a huge, huge problem. Nor do I understand why it's a "garbage" position. If an act is illegal and you commit the act, why shouldn't you be held accountable? Drugs are illegal. We arrest people who use and possess drugs. We don't ignore the low level user and focus only on drug dealers. Driving while drunk is illegal. We don't ignore the driver and charge the person supplying the alcohol. If you take part in an illegal activity, guess what, you should be charged. You're a criminal. Right, Trump's just following that position through to it's logical conclusion. But a lot of pro-life groups try to carve out a position where abortion is illegal, but only doctors who perform abortions would be punished, not the women. It doesn't really make a lot of sense as you point out, but they realize that advocating punishing women is probably unworkable politically.

Trumps position on abortion is garbage but it's the standard conservative position.

Cruz was doing his best in the CNN town hall to remind everyone that he's just a little more eloquent in his insane views than trump.

Trump : maybe she already had bruises! If she was hurt, she would have screamed! https://mobile.twitter.com/BuzzFeedAndrew/s...917478464405505 Nothing matters anymore, at least until we get to the general.

Yes, that particular sanction was lifted a month or so ago. Trump still advocated doubling down on the previously existing sanctions, which would bar aircraft sales. As of now, Boeing can sell them if Iran wanted them, so trumps complaint doesn't seem to make much sense either way.

don't want Trump's insightful foreign policy ideas to get lost in the shuffle of a new page: QUOTE (StrangeSox @ Mar 29, 2016 -> 09:08 PM) Transcript of Trump's interview with the NYT editorial board focusing on foreign policy. This is only a small sampling of his lucid, coherent understanding of the world: (note that Trump has made unpredictable bluster a cornerstone of his foreign policy, and here and elsewhere argues in favor of nuclear proliferation) Circling back to nuclear proliferation: Trump is Schrodinger's candidate, holding all possible positions simultaneously. We spend too much being the world's police, but our military is weak and ineffective. Nuclear proliferation is the biggest problem in the world, but it'd probably be okay if more countries pursued nuclear weapons. Iran is actually NK's biggest trading partner. We should have imposed harsher sanctions on Iran while simultaneously selling them stuff. I feel sorry for the transcribers that had to put his rambling word salad down on paper.

QUOTE (Buehrle>Wood @ Mar 29, 2016 -> 09:21 PM) Is his the video you're talking about? Yes, I truly believe that is less damning than the one I posted. Do you this this whole incident is petty? Whether or not I find this "whole incident" petty isn't really relevant. He clearly grabbed her and left bruises on her arm, which yeah that is and should be battery and he shouldn't be doing that. If he doesn't try gaslighting her and instead apologizes right away, maybe the whole thing dies quickly and quietly. I honestly do not know how you can see that video and still claim that he only "bumped into her." At the 3 second mark he's clearly reaching for her left arm between Trump and the guy in the black suit. At 5 seconds, she's suddenly stopped walking with Trump and is now turned more towards Lewandowski.
-
QUOTE (Buehrle>Wood @ Mar 29, 2016 -> 09:13 PM) The other footage release today just shows him bumping into her. It looks way more petty than even the angle I posted, but there are frames missing. I'm sure you truly believe that. edit: here he is doing something similar to a protester a couple of weeks ago http://www.nbcnews.com/politics/2016-elect...otester-n542071 edit2: this NYT link has the footage that was released today that shows Lewandowski grabbing her, and she had posted photos of the bruising he caused right after the incident.

QUOTE (Buehrle>Wood @ Mar 29, 2016 -> 09:06 PM) "Met"? I've bumped into many people before. I would not consider having met them. Or are you saying they actually have met? So petty. I think they had actually met before though, and he definitely grabbed her. I'm surprised you're using that footage rather than the one released today that 100% clearly showed him grabbing her. What was even more petty was 1) denying he ever touched her 2) calling her a liar and trying to tie a history of making things up for attention to her and 3) Trump's man-baby twitter response.

QUOTE (Buehrle>Wood @ Mar 29, 2016 -> 08:33 PM) http://www.bostonherald.com/news/us_politi..._clinton_backer I'm sure that's unrelated. Why? I think Democrats are thrilled to run against Trump in the GE. Why did the guy lie about ever having met or touched her in the first place?

Trumps campaign manager charged with misdemeanor battery against that former breitbart reporter.

Eh, he would have been done in by the market crash of the first tech bubble and for sure 9/11 if that attack still happened on his watch. But if not and that's was the will of the people, so be it. Term limits are undemocratic.

If not for term limits, Obama would be crushing this election right now.

As for Bernie 's chances, odds are still against him. One hypothetical scenario, he and Clinton split the remaining until California, he'd need 80% of the delegates there. I just don't see a realistic way he gets the nomination. It was cool seeing all of the Sanders support driving all around new england last week though. Hopefully his campaign has changed some fundamental things about the democratic party and its base.
-
QUOTE (Buehrle>Wood @ Mar 28, 2016 -> 10:14 AM) Probably about the same as Hillary getting arrested. Not sure what odds those are. They absolutely would. That's why super delegates exist. That would also guarantee that they rupture the party and lose big in November up and down the ticket. Sd's seem more to provide "momentum" than anything.
